Booking July 4 weekend.  Will be a fucking riot.  Roaring 20’s.  Here we go...

Check back in with an update, and if you have any, pics, please. So far, images are pretty sparse. But I'm thinking maybe we want to move from the Aria to try out the first new casino on the strip in well over a decade for our trip this fall.

Seriously. Who the fuck drives in Vegas?

Raises hand.  Very rarely did we ever do without a car while out in Vegas, we liked doing day trips out to the Dam, Utah, Primm Valley, etc...  Had relatives out there for a bit and would drive out to visit with them.  Driving on the Strip was a bitch though.

Yep, doesn’t appear to be a traditional steakhouse in the lineup. However they will have this version, per the website:

Embracing the traditions of Italy, Brezza features a menu of housemade pastas, premier seafood and prime steak along with crafted cocktails including signature Negronis.

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) – An Uber representative on Wednesday said due to a driver shortage, only about half of the rides requested on the platform right now in the Las Vegas area are being completed, but they are working hard to change that and say they need Governor Steve Sisolak to help.

“Right now, Las Vegas is one of the worst, if not the worst, market in the country in the terms of the rider experience,” said Javi Correoso, a spokesperson for Uber. He said the rideshare company is experiencing a driver shortage nationwide, but it’s worse in Las Vegas.

“Only about 30% of drivers who were driving in February 2020 have returned,” Correoso said.

While supply of drivers is low, the demand for rides is high and continues to get higher, not yet at pre-pandemic levels, but certainly will be soon.

“We are starting to get close,” Correoso said.

To address the driver shortage nationally, Uber launched its own stimulus last week: $250 million for drivers. The company hopes driving up hourly earnings will keep current drivers, bring back old ones and attract new ones.

“In Las Vegas specifically, what that means for drivers as part of this incentive package we are offering hourly earnings of $29.90,” Correoso said.

Uber contends Las Vegas drivers are not coming back like in other cities because of local regulations. Sisolak issued an emergency order pausing surge pricing at the beginning of the pandemic that remains in place as Nevada continues to reopen.

“Drivers know that when there is a lot of demand, they are going to see higher earnings and by not having that mechanism in place due to local regulations a lot of drivers quite frankly are choosing to stay at home,” Correoso said.

Uber says they’ve reached out to Nevada Transportation Authority and Sisolak to address the pricing issues and are hoping there will soon be a change.

“If we can’t rely on the same tools that we can rely on in other parts of the country to get drivers back … it is going to continue to be a poor experience for riders,” Correoso said.

FOX5 also reached out to Lyft about what they are doing to try and attract more drivers and have not heard back, though according to a message on their platform when you can’t get a ride, they are “working on getting more” drivers on the road. FOX5 also reached out the Nevada Transportation Authority and Sisolak’s office, asking as we continue to reopen when the emergency surge pricing pause may be lifted, and have yet to hear back.

Uber is definitely an issue right now. We have been to Vegas 5 times in the past 12 months and Uber has gotten worse over each trip. We always go through these guys to ensure we have a ride from and to the airport. I wouldn't want to miss my flight out because of the lack of finding a ride. They are always on time. Actually, they are always at least 15 minutes early.

I wonder when this will start. No dates on their website. I’ve seen Guetta at XS before and it was a great time, wouldn’t mind doing it again soon.

My guess is sometime in June. At this point that is the timeline goal to open things back up 100%, based on some vaccine benchmarks/goals. Tentative schedules may be announced soon.

Random musings about Venetian/Palazzo pricing.  Right now, it's pretty damned cheap compared to everything else roughly equivalent on the strip.  Wife and I have a 5 night stay at Wynn (resort room, strip view) in late July; I can get a suite at Venetian for $400 less for the same duration.  Cabana pricing is still high but that may be due to the food/beverage minimums Venetian puts in place (cabana at Wynn is actually cheaper).

Is this related to their sale that won't close until the fourth quarter?

Haha, no I’m just saying the 20’s are gonna be insane in general.  I’ll report back but hear great things about the place...

Also, not to be a pest, if you can give us your thoughts and maybe a pic or two of their sportsbook while you're there that would be tremendous.

Don’t think so. Wynn has tried to keep pricing up as best they can to allow for a decent customer experience. I haven’t seen any info yet regarding room rate adjustments for Venetian/Palazzo due to the sale. And as you know, the rooms are nice at Venetian/Palazzo. Sometimes pricing dips during a remodel.

Watch lady strikes again:

A Las Vegas woman accused of stealing luxury watches from men she met on the Las Vegas Strip has been arrested again in another theft of a high-end timepiece.

Windy Jones, 23, was taken into custody by Las Vegas police on Wednesday. Her latest arrest stems from a man’s contention that Jones stole his Rolex watch, worth $45,000, during a night of drinking on March 31.

An arrest report for Jones said the man met a woman named “Sarah” at a cafe inside the Wynn Las Vegas, 3131 Las Vegas Blvd. S., at 2:30 a.m. The woman said she wanted to have a drink, so they had cocktails, then took a cab to a hookah lounge on South Paradise Road where they drank more cocktails.

“From there (he) stated he could not remember much from that point forward,” police said. “He then remembers waking up at the Venetian hotel valet area where security was able to assist him and called medical to assist and transport to an unknown hospital.”

The man eventually realized his watch was gone. He told police that the woman was insistent on drinking alcohol that night. He suspects she spiked his drink when he went to use the restroom.

Police said they identified Jones as a suspect using security footage from the Wynn. She was observed on camera with a purse that police said she was in possession of at the time of her arrest. She also was identified because she has unique tattoos, police said.

This is the third luxury watch theft of which Jones has been accused. In February and March two men reported to police the thefts of watches from their hotel rooms at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas in separate incidents. One watch was valued at $45,000. The second was valued at $37,000.

In the first case, police were called on Feb. 21 by Cosmopolitan security to the hotel for a man reporting he was “the victim of a grand larceny and possibly being drugged,” police wrote in an arrest report for Jones.

The man told police he met a woman named “Rosa” inside the Cosmopolitan near the Vesper bar at the property. He then went to his room with the woman, and they drank margaritas.

The man said “he does not remember much of the night due to falling asleep shortly after finishing his margarita,” police said. The man also told police “Rosa may have drugged him.”

He awoke the next morning to find $1,500 in cash missing from his wallet. His Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watch worth $37,000 also was gone.

In the second case, a man told police that on March 24 he met a woman on the Cosmopolitan casino floor. He invited her to his room and ordered room service. He awoke the next day to find his Rolex Daytona watch worth $45,000 and iPhone 12 missing. He also told police he may have been drugged.

Jones was arrested in the first two cases by Las Vegas police on April 4. She declined to talk to investigators and asked for a lawyer. In each of the three cases she now faces a single count of felony grand larceny.

Two Thursdays from now, I'll be in Vegas with my wife. Going to do a lot of the usual shit we always do, which we haven't done in two years since our last visit together, so I can't wait. Kind of bummed that Le Cirque was closed in The Bellagio. That place was great. Going to Piero's, Bavette's, Mon Ami Gabi, some new sushi place I forgot, the craps tables, the blackjack tables, and she'll hang out a bunch at the pool at Aria. Been too fucking long.

On a month long road trip last summer, in which I did not tear the roof off of our SUV while driving across the southwest, we stopped in Vegas for lunch on the way to the Grand Canyon from San Diego. Went to Mon Ami Gabi with the wife and 4 little kids. Next thing I know, the habitual triggers of being in town kick in and I'm 3 dirty martinis deep at 2pm. It felt good seeing the strip, and watching my kids people watch and see the town for the first time. Wife drove to the GC that afternoon after rolling her eyes at my behavior during lunch. Best drive of the entire fucking trip, as far as I'm concerned.

Also, @SydneyCarton, you really want to stay at the new place before its kinks are worked out? It's not like Aria doesn't have its shit together.

Yeah dude. Theyll have 5 months to work out the kinks. And I’m sure the opening staff is still all vegas pros. How many opportunities will we have to stay at the new hotel on the strip the first year it opened? Before it gets lived in by the world? I say we at least look at it seriously. Worst case we have to cab it to the Aria for football day, but fuck it man we can reserve a spot at Legasse’s stadium or one of these off-strip joints we always hear about. It’s worth considering, imo.

Yep. Apparently not available if you booked same day reservation. But otherwise should be easy, from the website:

Check-in using your Caesars Rewards Mobile App
or one of our lobby kiosks.

Yeah I know I have used the lobby kiosks, and MGM properties are asking people to use their app. Weird people choose to stand in line.

Wynn Nightlife has added a towering figure in the DJ world, in the sports world and the real world, to its residency lineup.

DJ Diesel is Wynn’s latest superstar attraction. We also know him as NBA great Shaquille O’Neal. Find him at XS Nighclub and Encore Beach club.

O’Neal is the latest headliner Wynn Nightlife’s ongoing list of star DJ, which the company has revealed on a conveyor belt of social media announcements. Previously, the company has announced The Chainsmokers, Kygo, David Guetta, Diplo and Major Lazer as resident DJ headliners.

Shaq-as-DJ Diesel has headlined over the past few years at Vegas dayclubs, including Alexxa at Paris Las Vegas (in which he is a business partner), the late Rehab at Hard Rock Hotel, Omnia Nighclub at Caesars Palace, and Encore Beach Club.

His headlining appearance at the Wynn pool party was chronicled in the two-part series “Shaq Life” on TNT in April 2020.

“When it comes to this DJ thing, I’m in the hole,” he says in the series. “Let’s say I get $20,000 a show. You know how much a plane costs? $50,000. Now I’m in the hole $30,000. So I ain’t doing it for money. It’s my adrenaline boost.”

The nightlife announcement is the latest in Wynn/Encore’s efforts to return live entertainment to the resort.

A Texas man arrested Sunday on suspicion of DUI first caught law enforcement’s eye as he sped a rented Lamborghini past a Nevada Highway Patrol substation in Jean, headed the wrong way, according to an arrest report released Tuesday.

“The driver operated his vehicle with a willful and wanton disregard for the safety of himself, his passenger and the motoring public,” the report states.

According to the report, the sports car’s driver was throwing napkins, water bottles and other items out of his car as he headed the wrong way down Las Vegas Boulevard South near mile marker 12. He then pulled onto a dirt road.

Highway Patrol in a tweet Sunday reported that the driver of the pricey rental was “off-roading while impaired.”

On the dirt road, a Highway Patrol trooper pulled over the driver, later identified as Quentin Sargent, of Arlington, Texas.

Sargent, who is in his late 20s, smelled like alcohol, slurred his words as he spoke and had glassy, bloodshot eyes, according to the report. The trooper called for a DUI Strike Team unit to assist.

Sargent told police that he had not consumed any alcohol. He voluntarily gave a blood sample, which was submitted to a forensic lab on Monday, court records show.

Sargent was arrested on a felony DUI charge, since he had prior DUIs, a Highway Patrol spokeswoman said. He also faces misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, driving the wrong way on a one-way road, speeding more than 21 mph over the posted speed limit, driving without a drivers license and littering.

Court records show that Sargent posted bail on Monday and has a court hearing scheduled for May 26.

The Clark County Commission approved the 42-page plan April 20 to increase capacity restrictions for public gatherings to 80% occupancy effective May 1 and reduce physical distance requirements from six to three feet. Additionally, businesses still closed, including nightclubs and adult entertainment, may reopen.

Commissioners agreed that capacity and social distancing requirements will be removed when 60% of the eligible population receives at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Masks will continue to be required, per state directive.

Some of the other local changes due this weekend include expanding restaurant seating from six diners per table to 12, the return of self-serve buffets and food sampling, elevator capacity growing from four riders to eight, and the return of piercings and tattoos in and around the nose and mouth. Dance floors can reopen once the county hits the 60% mark.

Casinos remain under the purview of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, but state gaming regulators have already said Clark County gaming floors can also officially hit 80% capacity on Saturday.
