Las Vegas go hard or go home thread

We went last week on SW (last minute). I actually booked a early flight out on Saturday morning to bet the RRR. However, at last minute, I flew the last Friday night non-stop. Saturday flight ended up being cancelled. The Friday night flight was 3 hours of turbulence. It was bad bad.

On Sunday, the Santa Ana winds made it almost impossible to go out. I stayed for the Kraken/Knights game on Tuesday. Great atmosphere and I would highly recommend a game. My fiancée is a Bears fan, so we also went to that game. First time in Vegas for a Raiders home game weekend. Place was packed. I heard the Sportsbooks were empty for the NFL games since a lot came for the game.

I was forced to go to Mr. Chow. Just a completely overpriced and overrated experience. Just terrible. Went to Raos one last time and it was fine. Prices seem to Be climbing even from pretty high increases in March. Still a great overall experience because of the games.

one of my stops was to wally wines, over at resortsworld, so i got to check it out for a few minutes.  it's nice because it's new, but it felt like a shopping mall.  i'm curious to hear more about the rooms, because they became an option a few days before our trip.

As you are probably aware, RW has three hotels within one resort: Hilton, Conrad, and Crockfords. So they vary but Conrad and Crockfords are the more stylish places to stay with Crockfords the most high end I believe.

I toured the property recently but didn’t get inside the rooms. I hear they recently lowered some prices for the food court. The main bar area is a cool hangout spot with a big stage for live bands and lots of TVs for sports.

The one entrance is a little whacky as it feels like just a big mall, but once inside the casino floor the space is nice. The nightclub Zouk just got going and had big lines to get in.

Wife booked us at the Crockford this weekend. I hadn't heard of any of it before, but it was expensive as shit. I hope it's worth it.

Not really a vacation thing, but a neat story all the same.  Howard Hughes first Vegas home is standing, today, just off the strip (just behind Encore on the property of the KLAS-TV).

It’s first paragraph of the article in the link:

Dubbed the “Vegas Loop,” the system will allow passengers to hitch rides in Teslas to and from places like the hotel casinos on the Las Vegas Strip, the city’s new football stadium, the Las Vegas Convention Center, and McCarran International Airport.

The map must not include that route unless they mean the end of the runway.

I’m intrigued by the Vegas Loop concept. From some quick internet searches, it seems the LVCC loop is a single car lane wide and has a fleet of ~65 Teslas that are not autonomous. Each car currently has a human driver which limits max passenger occupancy to 4 people. So that’s ~260 total people max on a 1.7 mile loop that takes 3 minutes to transit.

How much capacity will the Vegas Loop have if it’s built the same way? Suppose it ends up being 10 miles total and 350 Teslas at a time. That’s still only a maximum of 1400 people (and that assumes every car is completely full which obviously won’t be the case) which would be very low for certain situations, like the end of a Raiders game or any other major event.

I would be interested to see it happen, but I hope it ends up being a practical alternative to current transportation methods and not just a novelty theme park ride.

if it is only a single car width wide then what happens when a car breaks down?

Heading out Saturday morning for a 5 night trip.  Six days in Las Vegas can be tough, thank goodness Monday - Wednesday will be Pro/Am golf.  College football Saturday and NFL Sunday with the Cowboys Sunday night.  I love the NFL in Vegas. Was out for March Madness and it was not enjoyable, town was a mess.  Hoping the Strip is back to normal.  Looking to hit my favorites and try some new restaurants.  Here's to good cards and hot dice.

Our crew is headed out next Thursday. Didn't see anything noteworthy the past few pages, is there anything interesting I missed going on next week?

Thursday/Friday/Saturday are the first days of the main event of World Series of Poker at the Rio. So you’ll see a bunch of dudes cruising around with backpacks. Raiders are out of town. And I think you’ll be there right before they start allowing the Europeans to visit. That’s gonna be noteworthy.

Is it still face tats and smoking weed and no one driving cabs like it was last spring, or has it somewhat normalized?

It’s EDC weekend. Room rates are way up. Let us know how it is.

It was good.

Got in Thursday afternoon, took a Lyft to the hotel. Crockfords lobby has it's own entrance/lobby/bar/elevator. No wait to check in, lobby was really nice. Bar was also, we had a couple of drinks in there at some point. The lobby is very chill. Compared to the Conrad which is just a short walk, which was more 'lively' I guess. A lot more people there, had some music playing, had a nice bar, but a different feel or whatever.

At check in Crockfords does his special welcome tea thing where the colors change when its poured. It was fine. They also give you this special "key" that works as a room key but also gets you 'special' treatment places. And you get to keep it when you leave. I think it helped my wife get a reservation at the spa on short notice and maybe a discount. It might have helped us get into the nightclub there one night, but I'm not really sure how busy it was. Staff was great.

The room was...nice. We had a group of 14 there, half of us in Crockfords and half in Conrad. I don't think there was a big difference, for a 30% higher room rate. Don't get me wrong, it was really nice, definitely the nicest I've stayed at in Vegas. I've only been with friends, and we usually do Caesars cause of the sports book and location. (This was the wife's first Vegas trip.) We had a pool and Strip view (61st floor) and the wife really liked that. The hotel is at the far north end of the strip so you could see alot. Problem with that is that we really didn't want to walk down the strip much. Bed and bedding was very comfortable. I don't sleep well in hotels, but slept great while there. It was a standard room, but seemed a little bigger than the Conrad equivalent. It has a nice big smart TV, a nespresso machine, and a nice minifridge. Bathroom has big, nice finish out, big shower, towels seemed 'nicer' etc.  So, yea, it was really nice, but not sure it was worth the increased price.

It being EDC weekend provided some entertainment with some nice people watching while on the casino floor. We never had to wait on a craps or blackjack table ($25min). We had great interactions with the dealers. In fact, Saturday evening  6 of us posted up before dinner at table for a while, and I don't think I've laughed as much as I did with the 2 dealers that were rotating with us. Great staff/dealers throughout the whole place for the weekend.

Wife said her spa day on Saturday was as good as she's ever had. She hasn't been to a ton, but has done some of the nicer ones in Dallas, She was there several hours and would have stayed longer but they don't serve alcohol there, despite attempts by the group.

Sportsbook is nice, but small. We reserved a 4 couch set up Saturday with a view of the main screens and a 4 tv setup in front of us. We had a minimum $ to spend but with a group it was easy. They only had two of those, several high-tops and then some lounge chairs to reserve with minimum $ to spend.  Staff there was great, app was easy to use also so make bets if you wanted.

Poker room was also nice, but a little small. Nice tables and chairs, high ceilings, decent TV setup. Never had to wait long for a game even at peak times, and they had several games spread including a high roller area that had 300/600 mixed going that @TXSooner518 will probably hit up.

They have this food court area with several options. Lots of asian fare which we hit up late night a couple of times. Everything we got was good. We had breakfast/brunch at two of the onsite restaurants (The Kitchen and Suns Out), very good.

One dinner we ate at Viva, the Mexican food place there. We had a private room in the back. Food was really good, staff was great.

Pool area is really nice. We were there for a large part of Friday. We had a cabana which was nice, staff was great, people watching was good. Tits were out, it was pretty hopping.

Overall, we had a great time. The hotel/casino was good.

It’s slowly improving. Room rates on weekends have picked up enough to ward off some of the face tat crowd. Weed still an issue. Uber/cabs still not great but they allowed surge pricing again and that has helped availability improve. There is some conference/convention activity but should be a lot more in 2022.

Vegas regulars- headed there weekend after New Years. Three nights.

Looking for a nice room that’s comfortable as some work will take place (with South Austin’s mom).

I’ve done Mirage a few times and liked the vibe…but that was a few years ago. Wynn was cool a couple times as well.

Any other places I need to review?

Appreciate the thoughts.

EDIT- going for a Raiders game. Do like poker and some table games.

For the combo of nice hotel, poker, and proximity to Raiders game I would suggest checking out Aria and Vdara (poker is at Aria next door). If you wanted to be closer to the game you could look at MGM Grand options also, they have poker.

I love Vdara. Very quiet. You can get a nice sized suite for a good deal, especially if you sign up for MGM rewards. No casino, large rooms, no smoke, no traffic. It is my go to for quick, last minute trips.

Mirage has been rumored for sale for a long time. MGM CEO publicly stated on the earnings call tonight that they are soliciting offers for it. Lots of speculation on who will buy it.

I figure if Ruffian can find the cash, he will take it and put a CVS and other shit in front of it like he did TI.  I can't see (whatever company owns Caesars) wanting it, or whoever took over Sands.  Wynn for sentimental reasons, but they wouldn't own the land, and that doesn't seem like a Wynn thing to just operate a place.  A tribe, perhaps?
