This may be, but I really wonder how the internet and social media will play into the current situation.  The speed of disinformation could escalate things to a very unsafe level very fast.

Consider this:  In 1968, most (who had TV) only had a few stations - NBC, ABC, CBS (PBS started in the 70s).  200 million people in the US with around 130 million adults (roughly), and 20 million were watching Hunter-Brinkley on ABC nightly, with around 18 million watching Cronkite on CBS as well.

So news either came through your local newspaper, or nearly 30% of adults were getting the news from just one of two shows on the evening news.  Arguably, disinformation could be spread much faster back then because people had such a narrow pipeline in which to learn the news, and no way to verify it on their own.

You had LBJ saying the light at the end of the tunnel is in sight, and then you had people watching Nguyen Ngoc Loan executing a VC prison on the streets of Saigon.  Then you had around 90 million Americans watching the riots/protests at the Democrat's convention in Chicago, and the media was portraying it one way, the police another, and no way for Americans to actually hear from those not associated with either of the two (outside of select soundbites).

Without social media and the internet, things were escalating to unsafe levels quite often during that period.    Kent State was just two years down the road.  All of the assassinations, the riots, etc.

Both sides (HA!) are expecting violence to come from the opposing camp. I know Trump supporters who are genuinely worried about left wing violence. We all know the left worries about violence coming from the right.

This country is torn in half and I don't know what can bring it back together.

Another round of fappening pics?  The next new video game or social media platform that catches on?

We, as a nation, are easy as hell to distract.

Yeah, as bad as things look now they are no where near 1968.

Tet Offensive in Vietnam, middle of the civil rights movement and MLK shot in April. Sitting president declines to run for re-election, RFK shot, riots at the DNC in Chicago (both inside and outside).

1968 is a fascinating year to look back on.

And it produced some amazing music. Interesting how the two went hand-in-hand.

We are coming at this from two different angles.

I’d argue it is worse today in America than the 1960s because the population doesn’t react to threats appropriately like they did then.

The 1960s were more violent and tumultuous for good reasons and the people felt empowered enough that they could make a difference.  This isn’t the case as much today and why I argue the situation is worse.

The goal of active measures isn’t to get people to fight in the streets.  The goal is to get people to do nothing while you strip them of everything they once valued.

Again, this can be laid at the feet of Ronald Reagan.

The Huntley/Brinkley Report was on NBC. Depending on the year, ABC had (in order) Peter Jennings, Bob Young, Frank Reynolds or Frank Reynolds/Howard K. Smith.

Didn't really matter, nobody was watching ABC.

A lot of people protesting in the '60s were directly impacted by the things they protested - namely being drafted and sent off to fight in Vietnam, or having their loved ones drafted and sent off to fight in Vietnam.

There was a sense of urgency in the 1960s that we simply don't have now among young people.

Olds on the other hand, many are fearful of having their retirement impacted, their medical care, their taxes, etc., and these things are the most important things in their lives right now, so they are easy to stir up.

A guy named David Pecker is a central figure in a scandalous presidency of a reality TV gameshow host who fucked and paid off a pornstar, along with two absurd looking Ukrainians involved in a business named "Fraud Gaurantee," and they also work closely with the president's personal lawyer who is an acclaimed cyber-security expert who regularly buttdials people and confesses crimes on live TV.

This is the most ridiculous simulation ever.

And I didn't even mention the blackmailed gay Republican southern senator.

This could be yet another example of a situation any reasonable adult would brush off with a "my bad, sorry Conan" and a laugh.  But no, we now have to dig into the gender of a fucking dog because the President might have made a simple mistake yet can't admit it.

How about the congressman who Sues Twitter (the president’s go-to message platform) b/c of an apparent bias and slander for a parody account ... of His cow and mother. This same guy ALSO met with the two Ukrainians AND he’s a pivotal character in the impeachment hearings!

It’s like Valentine’s Day Or Love Actually the movies when all the story lines weave in and out from one another but with a huge helping of idiocy.

Did I mention this is actual a horror movie?

No there is absolutely nothing that piece of shit won’t lie about.

If you let forth the worst smelling fart in history and bragged about it he would lie and claim he was actually the one who let forth the worst smelling fart in history. He’s a fucking psychopath.

I don't know about worst smelling, but the loudest....well, that was me, in a one-room hunting cabin during goose season, 1989.  Right after folks drifted off to sleep.  Was on the floor in a sleeping bag, perfect conditions.  It shook the walls.  It woke up the other 9 guys there.  They even asked if I was okay.

If Trump says otherwise, he's absolutely lying.  I have witnesses.

I'm more of a hang time guy myself, as opposed to distance.

Yeah....decibels are where it's at.  Time and odor count, but decibels are how champions are determined.

Well, I say a nice 10-second "is it ever gonna end?" effort with good tone and timbre is more sophisticated and less shart-prone than your caveman approach, but whatever works for you.

Just fly into Cincinnati, rent a car, and grab a couple of bowls of skyline on the drive across the river to Kentucky.

Bowls? No no no. I mean, yes, you can buy it by the bowl, but I've honestly never seen anyone eat it that way. It's more of a sauce than a standalone dish. What you want to do is order a 5-way and a Skyliner all the way (that's a cheese coney with mustard and onions) on the side. Order more coneys as needed. Some stores also serve beer.

I've seen the Steel Shank thread.  There's no way you don't have the worst smelling farts on the planet.

I won't DENY mimicking the scent of a skunk wrapped in bologna cooked over a tire fire.  If that's what you're getting at.  My main point here is....my flatulence is more qualified to be POTUS than the current occupant of the office.  It's more honest, sincere, and achieves excellence on the regular.

Pretty much exactly how I pictured you.

I would still gladly vote for your flatulence over Trump.
