2019 Golf Thread of Dominance

Had my first mental test yesterday and kind of passed but kind of failed. The test being that I haven’t played in 24 days. No practice either, went out cold. Shot an 86 with 26 putts. If I was inside 12 feet that fucker was going in. Probably one of my 3-5 best putting rounds ever. However I struck the ball like a guy who hadn’t played in over three weeks which is the part that I feel I failed at. Could have easily been a 96. I guess that’s just how it is sometimes though. Trending down to 13.1. Going to get 4 rounds in this weekend.

94 today on the same course.  Short game is in the shit and the range is closed because of all the rain.  31 putts today, if I putt like wednesday then I'm sub 90.  My course is weird in that the first 3 holes are some of the easiest on the course and the last 3 are 1, 3, 5, in the handicap.  Needless to say, this score isn't going against my index.  The tee sheet is full tomorrow but it was also full today and we were the only ones that got out because of light rain.  If it opens up tomorrow I'm going to hit the course again before 11am kickoffs.  Golf, football, casino.  That's going to be my saturday if everything goes right.

Also... The golf gods really fucked me today.  On hole 16 I somehow ended up hugging the nuts of the back side of a tree from where the tee box is.  After a reverse stub to the middle of the fairway I punched down to 100 out, just off the fairway.  52 degree to pin high but was just on the fringe... just on the fringe where a sprinkler head was so I ended up 7 yards off the green where a tree was in my back swing.  Try to bump it with a 7 iron over the bermuda and the ball explodes off the face, passed the pin, and down the false front and sloping fairway to 40 yards out.  That's some bullshit right there. 7x on that hole.

K-sig 4 piece ball is back, made in China vs. Korea now by the same company that makes their current 3-piece. No better value in the market, 2 dz for $30. Already sold out but I read they will not have the same inventory issues of the past. A Newport style putter coming for $150 and vokey "like" wedges(prediction is 2 or 3 for $99).

I love the fat oem's being disrupted.

Interesting that they point out every possible negative without having tested the ball. Hell, that 3 piece ball is good as validated in their own rankings. My guess is that it’ll not be like the original 4 piece since it’s not made by the same company but will be a good ball if you are not concerned by brand.

Got to play Trinity Forest again yesterday (no guest fee, either!).  Lucked out with Imelda's cloud cover.  Highs were mid 80's, and the wind was manageable.

-1 through 7 holes turned into an 82 with a few really bad breaks, 3 putts, and poor club selection.  The clubhouse is spectacular, the service is top notch, and the course is a lot of fun to play.  If you get the opportunity to play it I highly recommend it.  Great experience.

They couldn’t afford the water bill during one of our droughts and closed. They said they’d come back for a few years before finally going radio silent.

I imagine the city lost millions in property taxes but it’s been hidden by market growth.

I played it almost weekly before work for a number of years. Was a fan

Registered again for the Get Teed Off at OU golf tournament. This was an absolute blast last year if you like boozing and playing golf at the same time. Florida scramble format sucks, but if you have 5 other longhorns that like golf, I strongly recommend signing up for this tournament.  Even if you're a single, they'll pair you up.\m/

Just got back from a week in Sedona and Scottsdale. Played Sedona Golf Resort, Oakcreek CC, Canyon Mesa and Troon North.

Great weather and fun golf. Oakcreek has the best greens of all and some of the best I’ve ever played. Soft enough to hold shots but completely smooth and quick as well, flawless.

Was disappointed with Troon, they had lost a lot of the fairways this summer and while the greens were pretty smooth and super fast, they were so hard it wouldn’t even leave a ball mark, just bounced and rolled.

Sedona is so spectacular. Stayed at a vineyard there for three nights then moved to a hillside house in Carefree for rest of trip.

PSA, I bought a used Taylor Made M1 off ebay last year. It developed a small chip/crack, I turned in a warranty request to TM. They sent me a brand new M5. Amazing customer service.

Nice. sounds like I need to chip my M1 then

I played 36 at the San Pedro pitch and putt yesterday. 27/33 from the tips and then 28/30 from the reds. I think that's going to be my new go-to for practice. The grass at the Quarry's chipping green is way too fluffy. You get nothing but primo lies that you'd rarely see on even the best manicured courses. San Pedro's greens are healthy, but much slower and grainier than I am used to. I am looking forward to "working late" and getting in some weeknight loops under the lights.

Walked yesterday with a half bag and hit 12/13 fairways with a 5W off every tee. Took the full bag out to play the front nine this afternoon and hit 7/7 with driver. I need to work on my chipping because I had way too may 12-15 footers for par, many of which were dicey 2 putts since the greens were rolling 13+. Amazing weather.

Played Memorial Park last Friday in 50 degree drizzle and wind.  It is going to be great once it gets played and grown in.  Biggest changes were the green complexes.  They are going to be able to trick out the pin placements for tournaments and dumb them down for muni play.

Front 9 has 3 par 5 and 3 par 3.  1 will be a par 4 for the Houston Open.  Still a bargain at $49 with a cart or $69 if you book in advance.  Range is now double-decker and apparently is getting a ton of traffic.

Memorial Park, including the golf course, is the jewel of the city. The city will always be grateful to the Hoggs.

No sub for grass.  Before I moved I used Avery Ranch range. They went to turf mats for about a month for some maintenance. Man could I hit very good iron shots of the mat versus real grass. If you hit a little behind the mat just let you "bounce" into the ball perfectly where grass would just grab the club sole.

Day 2 in the books. Played Bandon Dunes yesterday afternoon on arrival. Rained all the way down but was sunny when we arrived.

Today was Pacific Dunes and the Preserve (par 3 short course). A few pics from today:

Looks like Tapa posted them in reverse order.

Last few pics (afternoon shots) are the par 3 course. The ones with yellow flags are Pacific Dunes.

Spectacular day. Sunny and low 50’s. Wind blew about 10-20.
