Sounds like a metal ass party. Guess they couldn’t get out in time....

The teenage victims are thought to have been celebrating a birthday at the venue, where users are locked in a room and must answer puzzles and complete tasks to get out, in the city of Koszalin.

The girls, aged around 15, were locked in the room and were all killed in the fire.

Koszalin prosecutor Ryszard Gasiorowski said a leak in the bottled gas heating system was a probable cause of the fire.

Earlier, firefighters blamed faulty electric wiring and poor emergency procedures.

Poland's firefighting chief, Leszek Suski, said electrical wiring at the location was makeshift and too close to flammable materials. He also said the man in charge of the venue might not have been there when the fire broke out.

"Security was not ensured and that led to the tragedy," Mr Suski said.

He added that there was a "lot of negligence" at the location and no proper evacuation route.

Asphyxiation was the probable cause of the deaths, officials have said.

Police spokesperson Monika Kosiec said the girls' bodies were found after firefighters put out a blaze in a room near the fire, but that they were not directly hit by it. A 25-year-old man was also taken to hospital with burns. He was not able to immediately speak to police.

A spokesman for local firefighters, Tomasz Kubiak, said the units responding to the blaze had to use specialised equipment to force their way into the escape room.

Following the incident, police and fire service vehicles were pictured on a residential road near a detached house with an "escape room" sign outside.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has sent condolences to the victims' relatives.

Poland's interior minister Joachim Brudzinski said fire safety controls would be ordered in all escape rooms in Poland, where the adventure games are popular with teenagers.

Previously, there was no official requirement for fire safety certificates at such locations - of which there are more than 1,000.

It completely blows my mind that Poland doesn't have general laws about places of business requiring emergency exits that would apply to this sort of situation, and that they would need to implement new specific laws to cover this.

The ones around here make it very clear that you are not locked in at all  You can open the door you came in at any time, but the game is over if you do. It’s always a different set of doors you must open to truly “escape”.

Maybe the fire was at the original entrance though.

It's puzzling.
