Former Woodlands HC Mark Schmidt name HC/AD for neighboring Oak Ridge High School.

Weird as fuck... and his timing sucks badly, with the impending bigtime hit in talent pool  from splitting off with Grand Oaks HS.

He wants the AD job for Conroe ISD and is waiting for Danny Long to retire should be within the next two years. This is just a time filler

Oak Ridge is about to hit a big fucking wall after this season.  In the Oct 2017 ADP count, Oak Ridge had surpassed The Woodlands in students( in the realignement and DCTF, their ADP for Oak Ridge reflects the transition of students to new Grand Oaks.) That is why Grand Oak was needed so badly from a practical standpoint.   Athletically it just fucked ORHS at the stereotypically right moment.

Never thought much of Schmid as an X's and O's guy.  He should have done more at TWHS, especially regarding the POs.  He will not out-talent anyone in District play with his War Eagle teams.

I know they're going to be really good.  Better than 2016?
You are thinking 17. They didnt lose that year but hopefully the same. We do have Jackson and burris at DE which should be good, and the RB and QB are also super good. Haven't been to the supermarket yet but guessing PS mag has us at #1.

That's right.  Wimberley played WOS in the state semis that year, and I wasn't that disappointed we lost, because I knew we would have gotten destroyed the next week if we had won.  There was no was we would have even slowed down PG's offense.

If you haven't seen it, DCTF has a poll of HS coaches.  One of the questions is How would you like the state championship games organized?

4.7% said rotated evenly between Jerrywold/Houston.

6.3% said coaches should decide on each site.

24.7% said rotated between Jerryworld/Houston/SA.

57.9% said "always played at Jerryworld."

Someone bookmark this for when slorch and the rotators start complaining about Jerryworld again.

I'd put it at a 10 point advantage for the local teams.  Yes, JerryWorld is a nice stadium, but I can't imagine it's fair to the rest of the state's players.  I read that North Shore drove up the day of the championship game...4-5 hours on a bus.

and FYI I live in Highland Park, and we've probably benefited from the location of the games

Vegas sportsbooks put home field advantage at 2.5 for NCAA football teams and around 3 points for NFL teams on average.  Yet somehow, playing in a neutral stadium that's closer to one school is worth TEN!?!?!?!  If North Shore drove up the day of the game, it's because North Shore wanted to do that.  The UIL covers hotel costs for all teams.

Take a look at the results the last time the games were played outside of JerryWorld - many more local winners.

Why don't you list them for us all, seeing as how you're the one making the claim?  And also show their pre-champ rankings going into the game; feel free to use Huck's system.

If you're going to make a wildly stupid claim like that, it's your job to defend it.

Sorry if I touched a nerve (over high school football, lol).  I guess this topic has some emotions behind it for some.   The last time outside of JerryWorld was 2015, held at NRG, and local teams won the largest three divisions.

Sorry, but what logic can you offer that makes it fair to put the game far from the population center of the state?

We've had this discussion over and over.  My town's team has played in 2 state championship games in the 2000s.  The first one was 100 miles away in Waco on a Saturday night.  The second was 200+ miles away in Jerryworld on a Friday afternoon.  Twice as many people went to Jerryworld, and we were playing a school that had a 30-mile trip AND NO ONE CARED.  Kids want to play in Jerrywold.  Fans want to go to Jerryworld.  The poll I posted shows that coaches overwhelmingly want the games to be there, too, but somehow, you're still arguing it.

Yeah, Katy beating LT was just such an absolute shock to everyone.  That was all "home field advantage."  Another one of those games had a team's All-State QB hurt.  Westlake-North Shore was the only one you could call an upset at all, and it went to OT after Westlake missed a game-winning FG.  The fact that you'd attribute those three wins to "home-field advantage" would you have no fucking clue what you're talking about if you hadn't already given ample evidence.

So your logic is “but by golly my high school didn’t care!” and “Dave Campbell polled coaches!!11eleven”, and it’s now settled science. Bless your heart.

I’ve expressed my view and I’ll leave it at that, since apparently the board has settled this monumental topic already. Be well, friend.

Sherman and Denison usually aren't worth a shit, but that's a great rivalry.  Usually the last game of the regular season.

Wall and Mason are two great small school programs.  Mason really stepping up in weight class, though.  Plus, we get to see the Puncherdome!

Well, now I have your view to go along with the 1,200 plus HS coaches.  Thanks for expressing it and bless your heart.

Not to derail, but was that the game that the QB was hurt the one where the QB's knee buckled on the first play, which was a pass play?  If so, imo that coach should have been publicly castrated.  That kid had no business on the field.

End rant, sorry for derail.

No, that was 2017.  The one I was talking about was Jett Duffey of Mansfield T-View(?), state player of the year, hurt himself the previous week, and pretty clearly wasn't healthy for state.

Thanks Beau, guess I've got that one permanently buried in my brain.

That was the 2017 6AD1 Championship. Matthew Baldwin tried to give it a go, but after his knee gave out first play he was replaced by sophomore WR...Hudson Card.
