Highland Park stays 5A by 11 kids

this article says 3 McAllen schools were mistakenly placed into 6A and if the UIL changes them to 5A it could push Highland Park to 6A...then the UIL gets some phone calls probably and says it won't be changing HP to 6A ...most likely

Quote

About five hours after the cutoff lines were announced, McAllen ISD posted on its Twitter page that the enrollment numbers for its schools were incorrect, including three schools that had been placed in 6A. Highland Park ISD athletic director Johnny Ringo started getting phone calls saying that if those three McAllen schools had to move down to 5A, the UIL might adjust the 6A cutoff line and Highland Park could end up moving up to the UIL’s largest classification.

Tuesday afternoon, UIL communications specialist Logan Lawrence sent an email saying that the classification cutoff numbers would not change, no matter which classification the McAllen schools end up in. But shortly after that, Lawrence said even that stance had changed, and that while the UIL doesn’t expect to change the cutoff numbers, it’s not completely ruling it out, either.

Calallen dropping to 4A......    Should be interesting scheduling non district if we get put into one of these five team districts.

It will only be a two year drop from what I understand.  Enrollment at the high school will significantly increase by 2022 realignment.

Here are the Coastal Bend teams moving classes/divisions in 2020-2022.

Flour Bluff 👇 5A-2
Calallen 👇 4A-1
Tuloso-Midway 👇 4A-1
Rockport-Fulton 👆 4A-I
Orange Grove 👇 3A-1
George West 👇 3A-2
London 👆 3A-1
Premont 👆 2A-1

Rowe should legitimately be 5A. The other 2 McAllen schools seem pissed they suck at pretty much everything now. McHi has a really strong girls soccer team, and an ok baseball team but that's about it. McMemorial and McHi have decent facilities, some wealthy neighborhoods in their attendance zones, and actual non-zero numbers of white & black students. That should all be a recipe to utterly dominate the RGV sports landscape, yet they're nowhere close to doing it. Clownshow.

I think Lampasas wins as well.

I went to the regular season game against LH and Lampasas destroyed them. Lampasas figured out the T and other than a few big runs completely shut them down. LH qb has a hard time throwing it 20 yards. LHS offense was the LHS offense we saw all year. Throw or run, doesn't matter. Great athletes at RB and WR and a QB that throws a better spiral than Sam.

Game is in Cedar Park, if you love small town high school football you should come out.

I hope they win. Lampus, "How they are referred to in the fight song which is the fight song for Kansas", has a rare chance to win a title. When I was a kid Kirk Parker was the athlete we looked up to. Went to Tech to play RB and it did not work out. Ace Whitehead has a great chance to do something special. I saw the last name Cuffie on the roster as a RB I think. I know that family. Great people. One of them played against Ladainian Tomlinson in basketball. Saw the name Brookreson. I am guessing that is Larry Brookreson's kid. He was a WR on the 93 team. Helluva competitor.

I really want to come down from NYC to see them. I am glad they are winning and I hope Curtis Thrift's youngest son is a Horn in 2022. My mother remembers him when he was the big redhead in elementary school. Now he's 6'6" 320 as a 16 year old.

Whitehead does throw a better spiral. Helluva competitor. Such a rare athlete for Lampasas. I would not hesitate to say almost as rare as Lam Jones, but not quite in that statosphere. Win a gold medal in the Olympics at 18 and then he enters that conversation...lol.

Bowie about 15 more kids than LT. Meaning of Bowie makes the playoffs with WL and LT, WL is headed to 6a D2.

Good for the chaps.

Lehman, AHS, Hays, barely make the 6a cut. Anderson moving down. Johnson stays 5a.

It’s a shitty district but it’s good for WL and LT to be in region 4. Hope it stays consistent.

Push allen and those other mega schools in to 7a, and have maybe 5 of them in the classification. Let them travel their asses off until they build other campuses.

If Allen got split up into 3 schools, they'd still all be 6A. It's totally ridiculous.

If SLC beats Lee,  that would set up SLC v D'ville I believe.

Might have to check that one out.

It's going to be a hell of a game. It'll be interesting to see how Riley does a year after getting blown out by them.

On a different note, I think I'm going to go and see the top division in Colorado's state championship game this weekend. Will be fun to compare to what I remember from playing/watching in Texas.

They have 7000 kids at one high school, and that isn’t an exaggeration. The only reason the school is like that is so they can field the best football team possible. Academic & social environment & giving the most kids possible a chance at participating in extracurricular activities be damned.

Also, their football team recruits and adds transfers in like crazy. Kyler Murray was one of those kids to top it off. In short, the school is pretty much an embodiment of all the worst elements of high school/youth sports in our society.

I'll play along....Lets break this down:

"They have 7000 kids at one high school, and that isn’t an exaggeration." - Ok, the 3 Plano's have 1k less and they all suck at football. How do you explain that? I live in Frisco, where we have 10 schools and all but one are god awful. And our numbers of athletic participation (especially football) decrease every year, yet out district is still growing...

"The only reason the school is like that is so they can field the best football team possible. Academic & social environment & giving the most kids possible a chance at participating in extracurricular activities be damned." - This is 100% false. You think the only sport, club, extracurricular activity at Allen is football? Their schools, and facilities, and programs beat out most colleges. Remember, this is coming from someone who lives in Frisco. We have nice schools, but they don't come close to Allens.

"Also, their football team recruits and adds transfers in like crazy. Kyler Murray was one of those kids to top it off. In short, the school is pretty much an embodiment of all the worst elements of high school/youth sports in our society." - Good football programs recruit themselves. If you think kids don't move for athletic purposes to other schools you are crazy. In Ft. Worth they move to Aledo, in Frisco they move to Lonestar. Shoot there are tons of districts in the state that have "open enrollment" and "school choice" where you can live outside the school boundaries and still go to whatever school you want (Katy ISD- looking at you Katy HS). Also whens the last time a 5* or 4*  has transferred into Allen during HS? The last one was Kyler Murray. If you're from around this area you actually hear more about athletes leaving Allen than you do moving there.

I don't have DMN access but they did a series of articles on Allen HS last year and here is the preview to it on google...sounds like there is a fair amount of transfers

Quote

The Dallas Morning News found that 74 football players -- including 30 from out of state -- transferred to Allen during the last five years, according to documents obtained from the school through open records requests.

Katy ISD is not open enrollment. In fact I know a guy that when he was coaching there, his own son could not go to the KISD school where he coached because they lived in a different KISD attendance zone. I agree with you about a good program being its own recruiting tool, but open enrollment is not in place in Katy. I have heard from coaches (may or may not be factual) that Cedar Hill, DeSoto, and Duncanville are open enrollment districts, possibly others as well.

My guess is Plano ISD is no longer competitive due to demographic changes. Alief ISD has 2 very large schools and 1 big school and for the most part they have not been very good either recently. Massive enrollments do not always mean high football participation numbers.

and finally, this tweet is pretty damn funny

If you are in a upper middle class area and your school district avoids the capital outlay and operating expenses associated with duplicating facilities by building multiple high schools, you can afford a lot of nice stuff.  Bully for them.

With 7,000 students they still only have 5 guys on the court at a time for varsity basketball games, one starting pitcher for each varsity baseball game, and one lead in the school play (or two, depending on the show they choose).  It is complete crap for student participation.  Sure, it's their choice.  And yay, they have a bag full of football trophies.  But as a parent I would choose the Frisco model seven days a week and twice on Sundays.

2) Allen never makes noise in anything but football, and recently boys basketball. They don’t care about being good at other sports or activities. If they did they would be.

3) Cool, so you’ve never heard of Seth Green.

Texas High with many other schools showing a .5 number for attendance. How does that work? (Here comes the jokes)

Not sure what the .5s are. TH was hoping to move down an maybe get a more travel friendly E Texas district. Being in the corner of the state and no big cities nearby is a bitch.

Point is, if they did break it up in to 3 campuses, thats an additional 44 starters on offense and defense for football.  An extra 18 starters for baseball, you get the point. You cant tell me that some of those kids each year are missing out on possible scholarships because there was a person slightly better than them in their position and not let them develop in to a better player.  You mention Plano sucking....I bet at least two or three kids from each school receives scholarships each year.

Forget the scholarships even, just think about the kids missing out on those experiences.

Didn’t Frisco High and Frisco Independence make the 3rd round of the playoffs this year? And didn’t Frisco Reedy make a quarterfinal run last year?

Lone Star is your big state title contender but that does not make the other 9 “god awful”.

As a TEA employee you can work in any district in the state and your kids can go to school where you work, no questions asked, but maybe a little extra paper work to fill out during enrollment. So if your friend was registered to work in the state of texas he should've had no problem getting his son into his school.

That is incorrect.

The way it was explained to me when we were looking at houses that were just outside eanes was you could apply to a school (or schools) and as long as you fit in the school and they didn't have to hire an extra teacher you were in. Once you were in and you continued to go they wouldn't ever kick you out. You were responsible for getting your kid to and from school and a few other minor things. Many people in the neighborhoods just north of the 360 bridge did this.

Valid points. Frisco schools go through cycles, the newer schools tend to do well for a few years, and fall back into suckville while Lonestar keeps competing.

Naw just a fan of watching good HS football. I've grown up in DFW and I loved watching the Celina's, Argyle's, Aledo's, Southlake's, Allen's of the world play football. Their product they put on the field is just far and away better to watch. Except this year with Allen getting knocked out in Round 2 lolololol. I just dont get all the hate. It's like hating on Bama or the Patriots. Good ball is good ball and I appreciate that.
