  • The UIL set the cutoff line for 6A/5A at 2220 students, which includes 248 total schools plus one opt-up in South Garland. This is notable because realignment procedures state that 6A can include up to 250 schools, plus schools that opt up. If the UIL went to the maximum number of 6A schools, Austin Anderson and Highland Park would be included in Class 6A.
  • Fort Worth Trimble Tech, after being placed in 6A last realignment due to their lack of attendance zones, will be back in a Fort Worth ISD 5A-Division II district in the upcoming alignment.
  • The UIL certainly has a unique problem when dealing with Class 5A Division I as there are only three schools in the El Paso area that fit the enrollment criteria. There are three 5A-Division I schools in Lubbock and now four in Amarillo with Tascosa dropping from Class 6A. So does the UIL create a mega 10-team district for West Texas or do they place the three Lubbock ISD schools with the three in El Paso, leaving Amarillo their own four-team district? If that happens, what kind of domino affect does that have on the DFW area, which may get loaded up with nine- and 10-team districts?
  • There’s some controversy with some of the numbers released on the UIL website regarding two ISD’s in South Texas. Laredo Cigarroa opted up to Class 5A-Division I, as expected, despite having a 5A-Division II enrollment. However, fellow Laredo ISD 5A program Laredo Martin is listed on the UIL site as having a Division II enrollment and remaining in Division II. Laredo Martin HC David Charles has advised multiple outlets that Martin turned in over 2,000 as their enrollment and should be in Division II. In McAllen ISD, all three high schools are showing enrollments that would keep them in Class 6A, however the coaches in McAllen ISD are insisting their schools turned in lower numbers and are actually in 5A-Division I. Many times, coaches aren’t aware of the actual numbers their schools turn in (alternative campuses, academies etc.), so this will be something to watch as well. If the McAllen 6A’s drop to 5A-Division I, does this adjust the 6A/5A cut line?
  • 17 schools in Class 5A opted up from Division II to Division I, thus artificially inflating the Division I/Division II break line to 1900. If those 17 schools had played in Division II as their enrollment dictates, the division break would drop to 1838, a significant impact indeed.
  • Houston ISD opted up all of their 4A schools to 4A Division I after allowing their schools to play in the division they were placed in the last realignment. Dallas ISD also did the same with their 4A Division I schools.
  • The landscape in Class 4A Division I is certainly going to be different the next two years as several powers are leaving, Liberty Hill and Crandall are moving up to Class 5A, while Lindale, Corpus Christi Calallen, Port Lavaca Calhoun, Vidor and Kaufman all go down to 4A-Division I from 5A. Carthage, China Spring, Celina, Sealy, Navasota and Seminole all drop to 4A-Division II from 4A-Division I.
  • There are a few new charter schools in smaller classifications in metro areas that will be playing football next season. It’ll be interesting to see what, if any impact they have. San Antonio YMLA and Austin Achieve will be in 4A-Division II, while Odessa Compass and Houston Legacy will be in 3A-Division II.

Wimberley just knocked off undefeated Navarro 42-12 to win Region 4 of 4AD2.  How you like them apples, @Helobious?

Can't believe they've made it this far. Good but not great regular season, sodomized by Navarro, and lost to one of Cuero's worst teams ever. But they've been on fire in the playoffs and returned the favor to Navarro. Lucky you guys didn't run into Crystal City this year I guess.

First time they played, Wimberley led Navarro 14-0 and our QB got knocked out with a concussion on a late hit.  He was also hurt for the Crystal City game last year.  We get winner of WOS-Silsbee next week.

That’s not going to give you accurate info on the schools. Plano East is nearly 30% Asian, Plano West nearly 25%.

And long ago, before the demographic shift in Plano, the Wildcats were pretty dominant until they split off PESH around 1983.  They've never been as good since.

Allen clearly sacrifices other goals on the altar of football.

Aside from always supporting the Chaps, beating teams from San Antonio provides me with a little extra joy. As we supported my daughter's various teams over the years, San Antonio fans always took the prize for being the worst fans. They would always talk crap at our players, our fans, and the refs and have openly cheered when our players were injured.

I've seen them escorted from youth soccer games. Best was when they cornered the ref after a youth soccer game and tried to force him to watch the "video evidence" that proved his egregious call. (To his credit, he refused to watch the video.)

Last season, a player from Cibolo Steele injured one of our Westlake girls' basketball players and then led the crowd in celebratory cheers. Never seen anything like it.

So keep administering the beatings to SA teams, Chaps and LT.  It couldn't happen to a nicer fan base.
