Is it still too early to talk about how vastly overrated Derek Stingley is? He’s good but apparently he was the second coming according to the media

He's ridiculously talented but the skill set has not caught up to the body. CBs can take awhile to develop. Okudah was not great until the Rose Bowl of his sophomore year. From that game onward he was the best DB in CFB.

fuck Saban fuck Bama fuck SEC but god damn Bama is fun to watch, just good fucking football

Not long ago I had a conversation with an ex-USC OL lineman, Drew Richmond. He played at Tennessee before becoming a grad transfer at USC.  I asked him what it was like playing against Alabama. He said there are two big things. One, they don't make a lot of mistakes, and that they're very well coached. And two, he says the #3 guy coming in is as good as the #1 guy.

Alabama is just almost always focused.  I was sitting in the end zone right near the tunnel when Georgia was playing them in Athens a few years back.  UGA was jumping up and down and all excited.  Alabama was just business.  They came in through that tunnel and you could see how focused they were.  Every one of them.

Just Now -- Pretty funny listening to Saban answer a question from Bowels regarding Sark.  😂😂😂

Saban answered in coach-speak how well-liked, prepared, and what a great playcaller Sark has been at Bama...

Bowels tried to get Saban to answer why none of his former assistants have beaten him...  Saban just replied that it will probably happen at some point.

Nick Saban, Alabama Players Happy for Steve Sarkisian Landing Texas Job

https://www.si.com/college/alabama/bamacentral/nick-saban-alabama-players-happy-for-steve-sarkisian-landing-texas-job

Quotes : "Sark has done a marvelous job here," Saban said on Monday. "He's very well organized. He works very well with all the people in the organization, players and coaches alike. He's a good play caller on game day. He does a really good job of preparing the players game plan wise for each and every game, and he's just done a great job. He's been a real asset to our organization, and I think he'll be very successful as a head coach. And he's taken over a good program, so it's going to be challenging for anybody that plays them in the future."

As of now, Saban is 23-0 against his pupils and if he gets through the 2021 season unscathed, he'll take that un-blemished record against Sarkisian for the first of a home-and-home series ending in Bryant-Denny Stadium in 2023.

"Well, I think that's probably only a matter of time," Saban said of why no former assistants have been able to beat him. "We've had a lot of great coaches here and they've done a great job for us, and we're always happy to see them get opportunities. That's what I think they work hard for, whether you're an assistant, whether you're an assistant to become a coordinator or a coordinator to become a head coach."

How Alabama coach Nick Saban used psychology to build a football dynasty

Richard Feloni     August 12, 2015

A crucial element of Saban's edge is what he calls the "Process," a simple but profound way of breaking down a difficult situation into manageable pieces.  Saban owes this philosophy to Dr. Lionel "Lonny" Rosen, a Michigan State University psychiatry professor he befriended when he coached there in the late '90s, writes Monte Burke in his book "Saban: The Making of a Coach."

Saban had long been interested in psychology and wanted to incorporate an understanding of how the mind works into his coaching style. Rosen started showing up to practices and became known to players as "the wizard dude" and "Lonny Graybeard," since, as Burke puts it, "he looks like someone who has just wandered back into civilization after seven months on the Appalachian Trail."

The Process was born in early November 1998, leading up to a big game against the top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. The team wasn't feeling confident, and Saban turned to Rosen for guidance.  Rosen taught the Michigan State Spartans a form of step-by-step thinking developed by cognitive therapy pioneer Aaron Beck and popularly used in the Alcoholics Anonymous recovery program.

"Rosen emphasized that the average play in the football game lasted about seven seconds," Burke writes. "The players would concentrate only on winning those seconds, take a rest between plays, then do it all over again. There would be no focus at all on the scoreboard or on the end results."

The game against Ohio State started off terribly. With 10 minutes left in the third quarter, the Buckeyes were beating the Spartans 24-9. But the players and coaches remained calm, Michigan State's then quarterback Bill Burke told Monte Burke. It felt like "we had an infinite amount of time to come back," he said.

Michigan State's comeback was remarkable.

After fighting back, the Spartans were ahead 25-24 with just under 11 minutes left in the third quarter. On a crucial play, the Spartans' defense put heavy pressure on the Buckeyes' quarterback, causing him to fumble the ball. Michigan State recovered the ball downfield and made a 42-yard field goal on the next possession, bringing the score to 28-24.

Both teams kept the other from scoring well into the fourth quarter, but with about a minute remaining in the game, Ohio State's offense made it to Michigan State's 15-yard line. On fourth down, the Buckeyes' quarterback threw a pass into the end zone that would have become a dramatic game-winning touchdown – had it not been intercepted. The Spartans won.

Michigan State had managed to recover from a disheartening first half by remembering the Process, by stoically plugging away play by play until they came back for a tremendous upset.

From that point on, Saban used Rosen as a consultant, regardless of where he coached. Rosen acts like a shrink for Saban's players, consulting them individually and figuring out the way they think so that Saban can best reach them and keep them focused on what's directly in front of them.

Saban takes the Process beyond the gridiron, as well. For example, when a friend called Saban to congratulate him for winning the 2012 BCS title, according to a 2013 GQ profile, Saban immediately began complaining that other coaches were trying to steal the high school recruits he had his eye on.

He's found that keeping an eye on the past or future either creates anxiety or dangerous comfort, and so he spends as little time as possible caught in the emotion of a win or a loss.

As "the wizard dude" Rosen told the Lansing State Journal in 2003: "Give me a team that has a business-like attitude, a team that can deal with adversity when it comes. ... The most destructive phenomenon in sports is relief. It's typically followed by a decrease in performance."

Lmao at people thinking Bama and Saban was going to fall off after that loss when this thread was created. The premise that there was turnover in the staff was always ridiculous. Saban has proven he can rotate anyone with a pulse and Bama will still roll on. They reload at every single position and coach. They are the biggest football factory this sport has seen in modern times. These players don't give a damn who coaches under Saban here. They want to come play for the football God at Bama. Greg Davis could be OC and they still recruit and roll.

Interesting stuff from 247 on Bama QB recruiting...

Saban changed his philosophy...

In the last 5yrs, Bama had better recruiting success with high production QB's.  Saban finally gave in to the notion that  offense had become much more important in the last several years of CFB.

Look at Bama PPG offensive improvement the last 3yrs...

With this announcement, we've received a number of questions regarding capacity at Bryant-Denny for @AlabamaFTBL
in 2021. We are moving forward with plans to have a full stadium in the fall and will monitor medical guidelines as we have all along. #RollTide
