Texas (31-8) vs Texas St (19-15),  today, 6PM, LHN

-  60% chance scattered t'storms beginning @ 7PM

-  Texas St started year off slow but have won 10 of past 12.    They desperately need this game for their RPI.

-  Has been a very competitive game the past few years,  however the Rupp sisters have graduated and Cat is with the USA team (afaik)

Friday game time change.   Weather looks good for Sat/.Sun.     Not sure if the Tech stream is free.

LUBBOCK, Texas – Because of potential weather issues in the Lubbock area, the decision has been made to also move up the start time of Friday's series opener between No. 11 Texas and No. 15 Texas Tech to 3 p.m. CT.

The series now consists of 3 p.m. CT contests on Friday and Saturday with Sunday's series final set for 1 p.m. CT.

All three match-ups will be live streamed through Texas Tech TV (via TexasTech.com), while live updates will be posted at the official Texas Softball Twitter account (@TexasSoftball). You can also listen to all three games, with Andrew Haynes on the call, for free in Austin on 105.3 FM "The Bat" or online through TexasSports.com via this LINK.

Pulled my daughter out of school early and drove to Lubbock for the game yesterday. It was a beautiful day to watch some Longhorn softball. 1st time to see them play since they went to the series in 2013. Elish pitched a heckuva game. Think they only hit 1 ball hard off of her the whole game. The bats did just enough to get across a couple of runs. Still having some base running issues. Definitely need to get those ironed out before OU comes to town in a couple of weeks. Overall time we'll spent with my daughter and the Horns got the W.

Appears Tech is for real or we are in a terrible slump (why not both/gif)   - 4 hits yesterday, 3 today, 2 run HR by Rhodes accounted for today's scoring.

Looking at the stats:

-  O'Leary started, 4 hits in 3.1, no walks, 1 unearned run (E3, Parker)

-  Bollinger, 3 hits in 3.2,  3 hits, 2walks, 2 ER

-  Burke did not play ?   Schattle at 1B

-  Tech started a LHP which apparently effected our LH hitters (1-10)

Texas up to #6 in the RPI

We've already exceeded our win totals from 2017 and 2018 (33) with win #34 on Sunday with 12 more games to go.

Another few chances for some top 50-100 RPI wins:

#45 Houston (4/10)
#86 UT Arlington (4/16)
#3 OU (4/18-20)

Js1.....Remember just a few short months ago, when people were questioning you and I on why we were so high on all the Oregon kids? Scary to think where this team might be without that group. Elish can keep you in any game from the rubber, and then win any game from the plate...it also doesn't hurt that she is pretty easy to look at as well.

Honestly, we'd probably look similar to 2017/2018, but with a worse defense. And NONE of that would be Mike's fault.

Agreed. The pitching has been much better with Elish and O'leary. Great pitching makes defense so much easier to play. It's hard to settle in 3 steps in front of the bag at 3rd, when the opponents are hitting piss rockets at you. I suspect that we will see the most improvement from this team in year two. Mike will have a full year with this group, plus some new talent to sprinkle in.

RPI - #6 (up 1)
CSM - #12 (up 3)
Flo Softball - #12
USA Today / NFCA - #11
Softball America - #14
ESPN/USA Softball - #11
Fastpitch News - #11

Polls don't matter for seeding - the committee is purely RPI and has been for years.

RPI - 6
SOS - 5
10 top 25 wins
17-9 record against the top 50 RPI teams
Average RPI win / loss - 77 / 17

That is a top 8 seed resume so far.  Even more so if we can pick up 1 win over OU.

UH tonight is a top 50 opponent. UT Arlington and Baylor are both top 100 opponents.  That's still 4 top 50 opponents and 3 more top 100 opponents.

I feel like if we stole one against OU it would be a 1-0 type game.

Would be great to beat BloU at least once...... just don't see a shutout victory possibility over sooners with the 2019 Horns defense and current stuff of these Horns pitchers.

The problem I have with the new proposal is assistants are already drastically underpaid under the 2 assistant model. Schools like Kansas and Iowa State couldn't afford a 3rd assistant. It would create a huge competitive disadvantage for smaller schools and in all likelihood force schools to cut softball programs.

Don't ignore who is driving this proposal. It's the SEC because most of their schools are loaded with $. They are simply trying to leverage a competitive advantage here because they know most of their schools have the money to pay for a 3rd assistant. It has nothing to do with "gender equality" or some other bullshit. It's the SEC trying to leverage an advantage.

I think this proposal would do more harm than good (at least in terms of softball). When Iowa State can't compete because other schools are paying 3 assistants more than they can afford to pay 2 assistants what do you think is going to happen?

OU weekend is SOLD. OUT.

We're off until Tuesday against UTA, OU is playing KU all weekend and then off until Thursday against us.

I wish we had scheduled someone at home for Saturday (a DH or something) and nothing until OU.  Versus having to turn around from Tuesday in Arlington to Thursday in Austin to play OU.  I guess you can give Brooke Tuesday so Elish is ready for Thursday, Shae Friday and Brooke/staff on Saturday.

Only played a game and moved up to #5 in RPI (+1 from last Monday)

The 3 OU games and UT-Arlington should cancel out the 3 KU games and PVA&M/Incarnate Word.  Baylor is still (currently) a top 100 opponent, hovering near that top 50 line (#53 currently)

ISU just crossed from top 50 to top 100 (#51) and they still play Baylor and OU and should hover around being a quality sweep still.

Only 5 hits, 1 error (Burke),  Elish did not play as DP (rest for OU),  UTA had 2 on, only 1 out, bottom of 7th to tie or win.

  1. Will have games like this,  but not a good primer for OU against a 21-23 team.   We had no Ks,  apparently the ball just did not fall.

Singles by Kaitlyn Slack and Janae Jefferson helped lift the Texas softball team to a 4-3 win over UT-Arlington on Tuesday in Arlington.

Jefferson went 2-for-4 with the winning RBI while Slack drove in two runs to help Texas come back against the Mavericks.

Brooke Bolinger got the start, but had to reenter the game to pick up the save, her fourth of the season. Ariana Adams got the win, improving to 5-0 as she gave up one run on four hits in 1 2/3 innings. Bolinger pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on two hits while striking out three.

Texas got on the scoreboard first on a error in the second inning, but the Mavericks came back to take a 2-1 lead in the third. Whitney Walton drove in a run and another scored on an error in the inning.

The scoreboard didn’t change again until Slack hit a two-run single to score Lauren Burke and Kaitlyn Washington in the sixth inning. Jefferson’s RBI single followed, scoring Slack.

After Adams surrendered a home run to KJ Murphy in the seventh, Bolinger came back into the game and got the final two outs.

We pitched our #3 and #4

Mid-week game on the road after a weekend off

No Elish, period

UTA is not a bad team.  They are a top-100 club with wins over Baylor (twice), Ok State and Arkansas and one-run losses to A&M and UCLA.  Our RPI thanks them for their service.

Last night was a stark reminder that Ariana Adams is a project and not expected to contribute outside of mid-week games or early season tournaments against bad opponents.
