I flew private jets for 11 years. Stepping on and off the jet directly from and to your car is a nice perk. 
The crewmembers are largely well vetted, and can therefore nearly walk through security, but spot checks are necessary. And, honestly, you can buy a full pilot outfit out of a magazine and reasonably fake an ID with some effort so you kinda want someone doing at least a cursory examination of  crew coming through. 


Was it you who flew Lear’s previously? I remember a thread where some lucky asshat posted pics in the cabin and the seating arrangement was a giveaway on what bird it was.

Yes. It was me, and the individuals in question had the seats incorrectly positioned (all facing forward in what should be double club seating) for flight and didn’t know it. 

These days I strap on Airbii.

As the people in the cockpit hit the water/ground and are basically stopped, how many tons of steel and amazon packages are behind them still have the energy of traveling 600 mph? Any and everything get torn up pretty bad. At least it’s over within fractions of seconds. I would doubt a person could even experience pain in that time except for the time just before the accident knowing what is about to occur.

And would you pass out or have a heart attack from fear before hitting the ground?

There's evidence that the astronauts on the Challenger shuttle survived the explosion and were alive and moving switches and controls and emergency O2 masks for almost 3 minutes of the continued upward arc after the explosion and the following free-fall from 65,000 feet.  The experts believe they were alive all the way to the water and possibly conscious as well.

This is actually a fairly standard thing to do with electronics that have been submerged: They are placed in water (ideally fresh, clean water) to both delay the onset of corrosion and dilute any salts or other chemicals that they came in contact with while submerged.

When you remove electronics from water and let them dry out they begin to form corrosion on all the little exposed bits of metal - chip legs, solder joints, capacitors, etc. - which can badly damage the device when it is powered back on.
Keeping the device submerged in water delays the onset of this corrosion because the dissolved oxygen in the water is lower than the oxygen in the air that would be hitting those parts as they dry out.

The Cockpit Voice Recorder and Flight Data Recorder are water resistant, but they are not necessarily waterproof (particularly after a crash, which may puncture their casings or damage seals), so they get placed in a container of fresh water for their trip to the NTSB's lab.
When the still-immersed equipment arrives at the NTSB laboratory it can be examined and dried in a controlled environment, maximizing the chance to recover data.

 The initial NTSB report is out. It references FDR data but not the CVR data yet.    

They were expediting the decent to 3000’, but leveled off around 6000’.   Then a gradual pitch up to 4° followed by a rapid pitch down to 49°. 49° is insane and might as well be straight down.  They were gradually rounding it out and impacted the water at 20° nose down.   CVR data being analyzed but not released yet

Max thrust says the opposite. It’s hard to go down with power added. The engines are under the wing and they give you a nose-up force when you add power. If you’re goal were to hit the ground as quickly as possible flight idle would make it much easier and less likely to recover. Power added means they were trying to pull out of it.
