Meh. Macchio did not want the movie remade because he didn’t want Morita recast. For some reason they failed to include that. They also failed to include that it was remade with Chan and Will Smith and it was about Kung-fu (isn’t that cultural hijacking?) But while my kids liked it, there was never an interest in them to see a sequel.

They failed to mention the Asian bully from S1 and S3. They didn’t talk about how the show added a kid with a physical deformity and how he overcame that. The author also alluded to that whites are a monolith and if we do karate it is because of fighting but if a minority does it, it is cultural respect. Both conclusions miss the actual point of modern martial arts (as opposed to its origins in self preservation and living with government restrictions on weapons).

What some fail to see is that just because they share DNA they can still have zero clue about a culture. I would be fucking lost in Italy or among the Sephardic chosen people of Portugal, and Neanderthals. I would probably be fine in Ireland and Scotland. But fuck Canada.

I liked season 3 better than season 2 actually. This may sound dumb but Johnny Lawrence is one of my favorite TV characters ever. Zabka really crushes that role.

Agree. The “karate” stuff is the worst part of the show for me. Johnny’s scenes are gold

Yes. The main focus and draw of the show is the adults who I think are all great. The kids and their karate (and ridiculously choreographed mega fights) are just a means to and end in advancing the adults’ storylines. I liked the nod to how over the top the karate mania is in the Valley when the presiding council woman say something about how she doesn’t understand why everybody there is so crazy for karate.

Loved season 3. It has just the right amount of comedy and cheese.

This is the best show about martial arts that I've ever seen, and it just so happens to have the worst martial arts practitioners in it.

I swear, none of these kids seem to be training except maybe for Hawk. The Larusso girl is laughably unathletic.

Yall wanna act like the karate was actually good in the original movies. Fun fact: it wasn't. But yes Johnny is fucking great and lighting a paraplegic's shoe on fire had me dying laughing.

In the Kreese flashbacks, I thought the soldier that got shot looked like a young Terry Silver. I was surprised it was the other guy.

Yeah, I think that was intentional. They also had that doctor from out of state in the hospital that I expected to be Elizabeth Shue when she turned around.

Best season of the series. Really liked Ali explaining Daniel's story about her dumping him and the breaks being bullshit. The entire Ali story was perfect.

The Karate Kid 2 call backs were great.

Looking forward to Terry Silver and his maniacal laugh!

Only criticism I have was the use of the new Miyagi nerve pressure point technique. when a new technique is introduced it should serve a significant purpose. The way Daniel used it on Kreese was anticlimactic.

The writers should have written a better scenario where there was some shock and awe after the technique was used.

I really, really hate Robby. I'm only in early Season 2, but I can't imagine any circumstance under which I will want anything positive to ever happen to that character.

I spend every moment he's on screen wondering whether he was a brilliant or a terrible casting choice because it's so totally unclear.

Season 3 so many feels of nostalgia. Kumiko is hot even in her elder years

I thought Season 3 was the best so far.

Spoiler

The Kreese backstory.
The Okinama redemption.
Shue.

The only thing that hit cheesy overload was the girl he saved now working for Toyota distributor. However, I was wondering how they would get Daniel to Japan, and I thought that was clever.

Well Kreese had the shard of glass and was trying to kill Daniel and Johnny.  Daniel using the technique to save both their lives and unite Miyagi Do and Eagle Fang seems pretty significant.

This. The whole Daniel vs Kreese we're finally gonna fight thing was pretty meh. I also didn’t give a shit about the Kreese flashbacks. I don’t need to know how he became a lunatic.

I'm a white Texan and I've been to College Station, and been like "what the fuck"

we're halfway through Season 3, it's funny as shit whether it means to be or not.

I didn't think he was going to kill Johnny considering he knocked him out with the sai instead of stabbing him with it.

Yeah, I remember him picking up the glass but it still felt pretty meh.

They're showing Kreese's backstory so they can turn him good guy in season 5...but not before he hits rock bottom in season 4.  Gotta know where you've been before you can heal and move forward.

But no, seriously, the flashbacks were a little excessive.  It does make me question what the purpose was.

We're supposed to believe it is significant that it shows he was on the same path as the kids were in s1. He was the dork who was bullied, but found karate and learned the wrong lessons from it. It also shows he learned his 3 key fundamental motto's the hard way. Cobra Kai's motto/style is "Strike first, strike hard, no mercy."

He got his best friend and half his squad killed because he didn't blow the explosives first. He showed weakness by not blowing up his buddy, so he didn't strike hard or first. He then had to learn not to give Mercy when he killed his Commander in the cobra pit. At least I think that's what they were going for.

There were so many opportunities in every episode for cobra Kai to go porn..

Peyton List got fake boobs.

i jerked off to Ali walking into the restaurant

I love this show

I think she had fake boobs prior to her inclusion in Season 2.  When I first saw her I thought, "Whoh, this supposed teenager is stacked!"  She's really 22 though, so I tell myself it's not dirty.

This is also my logic her and the Larusso wife could get many times over.

Johnny is the greatest dumb blond to ever grace the little tv.

My only beef is with Hawk -- the whole series is dumb but in a good way, but they are asking too much of the viewer on this guy.  They just needed a slightly more physically imposing nerd with a few notches down on the mohawk.  Something just basic Major League Soccer.

Well, we finished S3 last night and I'm still unclear whether we were supposed to hate Robby's guts this entire time.

I appreciate how '80s-esque and silly (by modern standards) so many of the plot devices are - I think it's actually a sign of good writing for the purpose.

I love how this show takes place in a universe where physical violence is so routine and tolerated (even embraced) by the community.

So do they end it after season 4?  I think so.

Betting money would say we're leading up to a conclusion next season.  I'm not sure where they go if they resolve the Kreese conflict, and a lot of the "high school" cast is already into their early 20s.  Adding Terry Silver and stringing him out past Kreese's demise is probably the only option to go beyond a Season 4.

Then again, I think in a recent interview the writers have said they're planning and have written the plot out through Season 5 at least, so who the fuck knows.  I think the nostalgia gets a bit stale past that.  Either way I've enjoyed the ride so far, the show has been good.
