This was one of Dubya's legal torture defenders. Dude should be water boarded for that alone.

Also let's not forget that Laura Ingraham was a staunch defender of the Bush doctrine and is currently pretending to be a noninterventionist in order to defend Trump.

Never forget who the assholes were that defended massive death, destruction and torture.

More like the creator. He was the go to for Cheney on his presidential power grab (aka Iraq) and wrote the legal justifications based on wartime authority. There's a good frontline documentary on it called the torture question or some such. I don't agree/ endorse his stance but he's a fucking intellectual wizard. Listening to real* interviews or his seminars after 30 minutes will give you a migraine.

*lol not on a news segment and especially not fox

Ken Starr was just on, defending/discussing Mulvaney's press conference. He kept making the point that Mulvaney should have been more careful and "guarded" with his messaging, in other words that Mulvaney's mistake was telling the truth.

I guess this is how we end up with a massive coverup of Baylor athletes' free license to rape students

So BrisketTexan's threesome (Brisket/Sela Ward/Milana Vayntrub- - see the Donald Trump thread for deets) notwithstanding, my spouse would pick the lovely Salma Hayek and Charlize Theron. So, this trailer for Bombshell (about Fox) caught my eye and I'll have to make sure we catch the movie when it's released in December:

So the Forrest Gump of rape believes that Mulvaney’s big mistake was straight up admitting to the crime instead of being more “guarded” about it.

Fuckin A glad I never went to Baylor. True leadership they had there for awhile.

Three guesses who frequent Fox "News" Guest and Newly Minted Contributor John Solomon has as his lawyers and never disclosed, despite repeatedly quoting them.

Not Rudy Giuliani.

These assholes again.

Conservative legal duo Joe diGenova and Victoria Toensing represent gas tycoon Dmitry Firtash as well as the writer John Solomon.

Firtash is directly connected to Manafort and the Russian mob.

One would think the MAGA crowd would be violently against Fox News. After all, it’s owned and run by a “foreigner”. How dare a “foreigner” tell mighty Americans what to think.

Think, that's funny.

When I’m feeling a little masochistic I go read comments on FN.  Todays article about Vindmans expected testimony states it could be damaging and outlines his service+accusations.

Top-rated comment?  “I am concerned that the left (radical democrat party) is trying to normalize socialism, and ultimately communism, and take away our liberties”.

It goes without saying that people who have never been in the military should not get to question the patriotism of combat decorated, purple-heart winning soldiers, but that's where we are as a country:

And somewhere in America there are people sitting on their couches watching and nodding at their glowing screens and with no irony whatsoever saying, "See, we should never let them immigrants into our country. Don't know how to ass immolate. Buncha flag waving terrorists that can't accept that their side lost."

And the people bowed and prayed,

For the orange God they had made.

And Fox News flashed out its warning

In the words that it was forming....

i like it.

I don't. I see its repetitive use as a serious dog whistle for the 4/8/12 whatever number they're on chan types. I would like for those types to stay home and not reach for their guns and go out looking for people to harm.

I didn't know who this "Lee Smith" character was, so I looked around on the WorldWideWeb and discovered I am not the only one asking that question. He was a journalist specializing in the Middle East and as far as I can tell, had the talking point of 'they're always fighting, let's get out of there," which sounded familiar. Discovered he writes a lot for The Federalist and Real Clear Politics and now this book. Then ran across this guy who has a blog called Our Trump Nightmare. His entry on yellow journalism from 2018 is about Lee Smith. Full link at bottom:

Quote

*Yellow journalism  — journalism  that presents little or no legitimate well-researched news while instead using eye-catching headlines for increased sales.

We have all seen Trump’s recent tweeting contending that Hillary was the true culprit of colluding with Russians to frame Trump.  Wonder where that is coming from?   Well I saw the following story this morning at Yahoo:

Quote

Russian Collusion Investigation: It Was Hillary Clinton All Along

Investor’s Business Daily 17 hours ago

“Russia Investigation: It’s beginning to look as if claims of monstrous collusion between Russian officials and U.S. political operatives were true. But it wasn’t Donald Trump who was guilty of Russian collusion. It was Hillary Clinton and U.S. intelligence officials who worked with Russians and others to entrap Trump. That’s the stunning conclusion of a RealClear Investigations report by Lee Smith,…..”

Well, I went down that rabbit hole today, starting with Who is Lee Smith?  And what is he reporting?

I am fairly good at this kind of spelunking, so it bears noting that along the way it involves googling or clicking on every name and every source in an article.  That is where it always gets really, really good.  That is where you learn the anatomy and methodology of misdirection and disingenuous “reporting” to create an elaborate illusion that your story “has legs”, while effectively filing the serial numbers off of any countervailing evidence currently in circulation.   This meticulously researched, spit-polished counter-narrative, which turns the entirety of the Mueller probe on its head, is fascinating in that it employs nearly every logical fallacy and arbitrary conclusion possible; and every Trump defender will embrace it as Gospel of Holy Writ.

Fox decided to borrow from the French and English, fudge the numbers a little and instead of the Norman Conquest, we get le merde de poulet.

As somebody who writes on the side and has done some formatting/publishing for others, first off, plenty of the more high-profile types are not doing the actual writing, or at least not a lot of the writing.  They are selling their names to some publishing house who contracts out for a lot of stuff.  They might provide outlines, anecdotes, etc., but you don't have to listen to them long to realize they are not capable of cranking out a book on their own.  There is an industry built around them - you can pay plenty of would-be-authors, English and journalism grads, etc. a relatively small amount (under $20,000) for most of a book that you can then sell and make a few hundred thousand off of (if not more, depending on the name on the cover).

But then you get down to the people who are known as authors first, and not celebrity-types (people popping up on Fox News, etc.) , and who are actually writing.  I was a big fan of conspiracy stuff in the '90s (more spectator than believer), and got to know plenty of people within that community, and there is overlap with the MAGA/incel crowd these days, and I think that applies to the book industry as well.

I've seen the "inside" of some of this stuff so to speak (and helped with some self-publishing), and I think it applies to the people you are talking about.  I found these people fell into one of two camps.  The first, the true believers, who believed what they were writing.  When they were writing or finishing up a book, their attitude was "man, I really think this is going to wake some people up!"  The second group didn't believe what they were writing, or didn't fully believe it, and their attitude was "do you think people will buy this?"  They were less concerned with getting a message out there, and more concerned with whether it was going to be worth their time to write it.

Thank you for your insight, I appreciate it. I love a well-written tome, even if a topic is not my cup of tea. I do wish that publishing houses had not been subjected to the inventory tax decision, because I believe that has harmed the sale of materials that were solid and/or well written and allowed for a little more time on both sides (sales and production) to generate some word of mouth positive reviews.

The real story here isn't some no name conservative fruit cake going full on foil hat and babbling on about the small thoughts rattling about in his head.  It's the continued descent and pathetic full on Trumpism of Maria Bartiromo.  In some ways, Maria reflects the choice and transformation of educated mainstream 90's and aughts Republicans.  They could either figure out the GOP had been hijacked by brazenly corrupted party leaders who decided the best course of action to retain their power was to become insular, negative, and protectionist or they could decide to embrace it and start shouting the ugly thoughts that they used to keep hidden down in the recesses of their souls.  Bartiromo has clung to the latter and she's a pathetic and nasty version of when she came to prominence.  For someone who was and maybe still is in some corners considered a media icon, she's pretty horrible these days, trying desperately to not expose the ugliness of her views (hasn't really worked) while seemingly just trying to figure out how she ended up on the wrong side of history.
