Unfortunately, their gerrymandering and voter suppression will push it out much further than that. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if they try to ban all other political parties in Texas.

That's why the most important election in Texas this fall is the state legislature. If Dems can control the house, they can have a say in redistricting.

No shit. Gotdammit.  We are Texas. We should be able to figure out how to govern properly.  This is not that hard if your heart is in the right place.

I think Lina Hidalgo and Clay Jenkins are primed to run for some statewide office, as is Art Acevedo.  There's always the rumor that Rafael Anchia is running for something.  And I would expect the Castro brothers to run for something, but they never want to get their hands dirty.

It's going to be really interesting to see how they coordinate to make sure that we have people running for the right offices.  I might expect to see Jenkins run for AG and Hidalgo, Anchia, or Acevedo run for governor (and whoever doesn't run for governor run for lt. gov.).

But then there's the wild card.  You could see Biden get elected and take some Texan for a high cabinet post (e.g., Richard Fisher for SecTreas), and then have that Texan come back and run for governor.

As a Houstonian, I don’t see Hidalgo running for Governor. She’s not even that well liked in Houston, she’s young as fuck, and she’s already being beaten down as only being elected because of a blue wave fluke. I’m not sure she can get elected as Judge again. I don’t see how an early 30s female whos had 1 gig is going to run for Governor. And I say that as someone who thinks she’s been a fucking boss and really likes her.

She knocked off the best candidate the Republican party could've possibly fielded for that position. Unless you're suggesting she'll face a primary - I don't know the dynamics there - she's got that seat as long as she wants it. The Harris County GOP is dead and buried at the countywide level.

Agree governor would be a stretch for her. I'm not even sure she'd want to do that.

Clay Jenkins would be a good candidate. If Abbott is running again I'd rather see him go after Potty Patrick, which is more winnable, unless this coronavirus stuff sticks to Abbott (in the one poll I've seen it hasn't - shocker). Also think he'd be a good bet for AG. Justin Nelson got pretty close to Paxton and Jenkins is more higj profile and could possibly eat into Paxton's North Dallas/Collin County fortress. Even a little bit helps there. Even if tge covid stuff does follow Abbott, I think a Castro brother is the best bet to beat him in theory. You absolutely have to energize the Latino vote to beat him, and they add the name rec to fundraise. But of course they kinda suck.

I think that's right.

I do think we're going to have a wild card that is going to add some clarity.  I think there is going to be some Texan (and probably a Hispanic one) who is going to be high in Biden's cabinet who is going to be able to use that as a springboard for a run for governor.

Have people mentioning her watched her covid press conferences?  To me she comes off as timid and in over her head.  I would agree with the people saying she was a blue wave fluke.  I don't see her a good statewide candidate.

I’ve watched them. Her last one wasn’t timid. I actually like her quite a bit. But too young. And i don’t see her cake walking her next election either, contrary to some other thoughts on this thread in regards to her chances. But I’m cheering for her.

The problem is that Patrick is up for re-election with Abbott at the top of the ballot.  My strategy would be to go after Patrick really hard as a long term play. Show all the people new to Texas or that have just started paying attention what a disaster he’s been. You may not win but you aren’t going to beat Abbott so turn it into a lose the battle/win the war situation. Make that the race everybody is talking about and force republicans to defend his shenanigans.

Patrick should be target number one in 2022. His race was nearly as close as the Senate race just because of how disliked he is.

If Biden is president during 2022, the Republican conspiracy/hate machine will be in full force. No telling what they’ll lie about to bring out the voters to get more Reps re-elected. I’m not confident that Patrick will be beat. If George P is running that could change, but he’s not a Dem.

Next county judge election will be interesting. Not sure who the R’s run against her, I don’t see any up and comers at this point.

she has two more year to solidify her base

It won't be interesting and it will be a relative cake walk. The GOP will not field anywhere near the quality of candidate as they did in Emmett and Harris County is only getting less GOP friendly. Y'all are underestimating how badly the GOP has been decimated in Harris County in the past few elections. There's basically nothing left. The county went for Lupe fucking Valdez by six points. They aren't winning shit countywide any time soon.

Unless you're talking about a Democratic primary, which I suppose is possible (not plugged in to local party politics).

Some good choices. I really like Clay Jenkins.  I’d like to see Julian Castro give it a shot.

If I could *only* kill 5 politicians in a long, drawn out and painful manner and get away with it freer than Mike Pence’s dick at a pride parade...that would be a difficult task. Hard to whittle down from so many deserving shitbags.

But you can bet Dan Patrick would be on that list. I’ll make time for that motherfucker.

Can we talk about his office? His fucking boots?

This motherfucker is doing Texas cosplay.

He is actively mocking us with his interpretation of what he thinks a Texan is.

He’s a fucking roach in a skin suit.

Just like in earth politics, there are secrets in interstellar space governance.

And if you pressed the roach people of sector 9, they’d tell you that he’s a roach in a skin suit.

I'll say this for Lt. Gov. Patrick...he's been remarkably quiet for the last couple months despite one or two soundbites.

It's hard to submit a press release in a Kohl's dressing room with a mouthful of cock.

I'm fucking dizzy from his circular logic.

"We don't need to enable more drop off locations because you shouldn't have to drop it off, as that's the point of a mail-in ballot."

Well then why did you everything possible to limit mail in ballots?

"There's fraud in the mail-in ballots, and the democrats know it."

Huh?

Yep, anybody from California/West Coast, Oklahoma,  or the East Coast thinking about moving here, you can't walk 1 block without being murdered.  If you are gay and new to town, they will hold you down and make you marry a member of the opposite sex.  Hetero?  They'll hold you down and make you same-sex marry.  Republican?  They'll force you to become a Green Party member and socialist.  Democrat?  They'll force you to become a Bernie Bro.  We are averaging dozens of deaths a day.

He really does hate Texas.  I mean, he loves the version that he conjured up in his mind when he moved here as an adult from Maryland, the image that kept him going while he was in a mental institution, the image that he thought he was capturing by changing his name from Dannie Goeb to Dan Patrick.

But he hates the Texas of reality.

whoah, I didn't know about the name change. Was that a political move? Fucking weirdo carpetbagger.

From "Dannie Scott Goeb" to "Dan Goeb Patrick".

Supposedly to honor his wife's family and brother-in-law.

When David Dewhurst was running against him in a Republican primary, he claimed Dannie did it to avoid a shit-ton of debt (and Dannie did have a shit-ton of debt at various points, but I heard he walked away from it before the name change).

Actual story he says is that Dan Patrick was his talking head name on the radio (he didn't use Goeb because he said it was hard to pronounce or spell for viewers or something), and he wanted to keep the followers he had when he ran for office.  "Patrick" was his wife's middle brother's name.

You also get that whole Goeb-- Goebbels thing which can be/could have been a help or a hindrance in politics depending.....people don't know stuff and so they fill in the gaps with assumptions. Is he Jewish? White supremacist? What? So he went with a nice Irish sounding name so he could conjure up images of Joseph McCarthy and Father Coughlin and bathrooms. How apt that Dan got his start in radio.
