exacty how the fuck are Iran's "proxy forces" in Yemen going to inflict mass casualties on Americans who are not there? You mean some special ops guys who is an expert soldier, an Army of One?  This propaganda is terribly weak, laughable, and cringeworthy. Fuck Bolton in the donkey ass.

I mean, at least in the past, they put in some effort.  This is just thumbing their nose at the entire planet -- "fuck you, we don't even need an excuse."

These fucksticks aren't even trying.  They're just going to make shit up, start a war, and call it a day.

The question is what scandal is driving this. I know, I know, pick a scandal, but seriously, something this big has got to have a huge scandal brewing behind it.

This actually runs the risk of a few Rs in the Senate turning against him.   When American aircraft get shot down or an American ship or two gets sunk, nobody wants to be left holding the bag.   The Iranians have decades of study on how to shut down the Gulf and sink big ships.

I’m still not buying this charade unless it’s some weird Machiavellian play by the GOP establishment to ditch Trump.

Deploying 120,000 troops to the Middle East for a war with Iran is a political LOSER...

and you know once we get in we can never get out.

I saw this administration pull this same shit with North Korea two years ago.

Trump will save us from going to war with Iran and we’re all supposed to thank him.

I'm not seeing a ground invasion but massive bombing of their naval bases and air fields.  Will Iran respond with missile attacks by Hezbollah onto Israel? With hitting soft targets in Europe? Some assassinations?

Or they might attack Saudi Arabia.

It's one of those facebook/internet memes which don't make it to Surly too often. But I thought it showed the morality play in progress.  -- ie , How can the US claim to be threatened by Iran when the US has them completely surrounded and they have nothing in the western hemisphere?  It's outrageous, but hey, America F Yeah!  45! MAGA!  I'm feeling sorry for the Iranians who will certainly die in the next few weeks.

Unless Trump does an about face pretty quickly, he’s costing himself the election here.

Bull.
Fucking.
Shit.
It doesn’t matter what he does, or who his opponent in 2020 is. You’ll decide they’re “just too darned socialist” and drop to your knees to gobble the same orange knob you’ve had ensconced in your mouth for the last two years. Stop even trying to pretend a different outcome is even possible.

I work and have worked with several Iranians and they're all cool people. Sharp as a tack, too. Your average American Christian is more religious. And just like the Russians and nearly everyone else on this planet, they know much more about us than we know about them.

This time around we won't have the benefit of a no fly zone in place for a decade. We won't have warring factions to exploit like in Afghanistan. Iran's 80 million inhabitants makes it the opposite of Libya's large swaths of empty desert. The Iranians have hunkered down for 30 years, planned for every contingency, and have had the resources for adventures in Syria and Yemen despite crippling sanctions.

No, this is all bluster. There's no way we follow through on this and incur certain casualties, for which nobody in the US has the appetite.

Let’s all pray that this does not become a hot conflict... The political ramifications are the least of my concerns if we start mixing it up with Iran on their own turf.

Where did I say anything about my choice? I was speaking on how it could effect the outcome of the election. I’m only one vote.

But while we’re talking about myself, if we get involved in an actual armed conflict with Iran no chance he gets my vote. To me, that’s the number one thing I take issue with. The shitty af regime change bullshit. Especially in the Middle East. It’s like these psychos never learn anything. I don’t trust anyone on the Left either. Except maybe Tulsi. I’d probably sit it out.

This.
Loyalty to Trump is a cult behavior and mindset. Folks don’t leave the cult. You won’t either. You say you will. You speak of principles and beliefs. But in the end, you’ll go through whatever contortions and rationalizations you have to in order to arrive at the destination: continued loyalty and support of the cult leader. There’s a script for this. You’re following it.

There's no scandal driving this.  There's only the trump id, with an assist from Putin.

It's an fu to Obama, with an added bonus of some jingoism and flag hugging and support the troops memes on fb in time for the election.

To be fair, when was the last time it was our fight?  About 80 years ago comes to mind, and that's only because Japan decided to poke the bear.  Since then 'Merica has been acting as world police.

Obligatory:

It's fucked up that this is what we have to hope for.

"I sure hope the president's just manufacturing a crisis so he can save us and feed his narcissistic ego instead of actually using the United States military to start a major war because he thinks it'll help him get re-elected."

he needs his CiC moment, at all cost. madness.

Meh, Trump isn't a war guy.  He's a business man. Blood is a big expense.

Abortion debates are fun in the same way same-sex marriage debates were when GWBs administration ramped up the the rhetoric during the post 9-11 Iraq/Afghanistan wars.

What a great time to debate endlessly over an issue while our benevolent overlords push for regime change in Iran and Venezuela. Same play from the same playbook.

A responsible CEO wouldn't shit all over the brand of his company, but that's what Trump is doing to our national reputation.

Trump is different than just a businessman, more of a parasite. He only cares about himself, even and especially with matters to money. Going to war is an expense to America, not him. Though I'm sure he could find some way to get money for a military conflict with Iran (maybe Saudi Arabia paid him personally). Regardless, he gets a distraction that might cost him politically but won't cost him personally.

A few legislators have received briefings, but many can only guess at the extent of the threat and where a ramp up in combat forces may lead.

“I don’t think it’s fair for us to walk around wondering,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), one of the Senate’s leading voices on global security issues.

Quote

Graham, the chairman of the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee, said he’s concerned about the evacuation of personnel from the Baghdad embassy given the regular attacks that facility endured during the height of the Iraq War.

“We’re clearly moving people,” he said. “This is a big deal.”

Quote

“We had people there during the height of the war,” he added of his experience at the Baghdad embassy. “I was there a bunch of time getting rocketed. I was personally taking white rockets, space rockets, sloppy rockets, and dirty rockets. If we could stay in operation then, it must be some kind of real threat.”

I have better things to do than lie about my voting intentions anonymously on an Internet forum. You don’t have to believe me, but it’s true. It’s probably true of a significant number of Trump voters. In fact this is how I break down 2020.

Trump/Bernie- Bernie wins

Trump/Biden (no Iran war)- Trump wins

Trump/Biden (Iran war)- Biden wins
