Serving warrants doesn't pay the bills

apparently, they found a way...

Barrientes Vela took office in January. That’s when her deputies began executing warrants improperly, collecting money from people without bringing them before a court, Vazquez said. Deputies would do this even to those who came to the court building to pay their fines, he said.

“They were shaken down for money, and that is a situation that is illegal,” said Vazquez, who has been in office since 2013. “She doesn’t understand the law.”

I am sure they turned in all the money they collected.

No. The tow company ducked the charges when the DA's paperwork for the case went missing. Charges dropped. Chris Nasrallah runs the tow yards and primarily targets(still to this day) illegal aliens who could not prove ownership of the vehicles towed. As a result he often kept the cars and dismantled them for sale. He also launders money by purchasing large amounts of diamonds with cash out of a Highland Park Village jewelry store and then takes them to Kuwait, Jordan and eventually Syria and Iran. His son Chris Nasrallah Jr is currently facing charges of beating his wife. He is out on bail and the court has a hard time finding him as he is often in Syria, Jordan and Iran per the courts notes.

I have no sympathy or respect for that guy. He had it coming. What kind of pussy reserves his park pavilion for Easter a year in advance? You must go puro San Antonio, get your happy ass down to Brackenridge Park a solid week in advance to mark off your turf and then have various members of your family camp out overnight taking shifts until Easter Sunday. That's how it's done here.

The first year we lived in SA (1974), we decided to take some visiting relatives to Brackenridge Park for a picnic. Every spot was taken, and it was obvious that everyone was there for the... whole...day. Lesson learned, we were no longer in South Dakota.

I've always been confused about the duties of constables and sheriffs for counties like Harris where a city almost fills the whole damn county. The city has its own PD. Why do you need these other rednecks?

Because beltway 8. At least that was the story I was told by some constable back in the day. Like them it sounds like bs.

And? This may surprise you but white folk get locked up too.

Easy to take that position (I would have thought the same thing 10 years ago), but are you a father organizing an Easter event for your extended family on Easter Sunday?  Worth completely ruining that over this?  I get that's what this lady was counting on but he exposed it on the back end without completely ruining his family holiday.  Not a bad approach to take IMO.  I would have told her up front I was going to expose her, recorded it, and if she was dumb enough to persist, paid her a few hundred bucks and went on with my day.  And even if she did back down based on the threat, I still would have exposed her for the attempt.

I could see that and would respect the decision.

As to me and my family, I'm the one who can get hot headed so it wouldn't have been a thing to me. Sorry, I stopped getting punked a long long time ago. Pride before the fall or something...

I think the Beltway is in a county, their excuse is bad.

Yeah I thought it was bs too. Of course, this was supposed to be the real reason. Should've clarified.

Was any disciplinary action taken? Does it say so in the article and I’m missing it? All it says was that she was “out of line”. I tend to give cops the benefit of the doubt but this is total bullshit

PAID TIME OFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That'll teach her a lesson

This story has some politics, but it isn't CR, I promise. Wise County had the same Constable in Pct 1 for 16 years, Dennis Hudson. He was first elected as a D in the 90's and stayed D even as R's took power, usually running unopposed. Everybody liked him and he did his job well and very low profile. Ran a gas station and would lock up to serve papers when needed, delivering them in his personal pickup. Never saw him in a uniform.

In 2008, a nutbag named Tom Bishop ran against him as an R and cleaned up with straight ticket voters. First thing he did was convince County Commissioners to buy his personal cop car (it would be cheaper than buying a new car and outfitting it). Who has their own cop car? The thing was a worn out POS that raked up $1000's in repair bills. He made himself a uniform like that Milwaukee Sheriff. He started running his own DWI campaign, speed traps and joined every pursuit or drug bust that came over the radio even if it was way out of his area. He expanded his office to add 2 employees to handle paperwork (his job if he wasn't running around), burned through his fuel budget in just a few months and requested more. Commissioners turned him down and told him to cool it with the Supercop routine. He did not.

He wrecked his car trying to join a pursuit he was not a part of (it was about 20 miles away going away from him). They told him they weren't paying for any more repair bills for his car and bought him a 6 cyl 4 door pickup with no lights or siren. He threw a fit and wanted a new police package Tahoe. He refused to drive it then tried to trade the pickup in on a cop Tahoe with a car dealer in Corpus but that fell through when the dealer called for the title.

Next election the old Constable ran as an R and won in a landslide. He's still in office.

I’m glad I read your entire post because all I could think of is why didn’t he switch parties along with the electorate. He probably ran as a Dem for that reason earlier in his career.

White guy wouldn't have had this stunt pulled on him. (By "white" I mean actual Humorless Anglo-Saxon, not Jersey Shore or Knowledgeable About Mardi Gras) She saw some Mexican guy who she figured knew what the mordida game was, and went in for the paycheck.

Guarantee you when she's talking to the retired Light Colonel from Minnesota, she's all "Yes Sir No Sir" by-the-book kiss-ass.

Hopefully the bitch is going down. What a cesspool....

SAN ANTONIO — A Bexar County Constable is claiming there is a conspiracy against her and her office by the district attorney’s office.

Precinct 2 Constable Michelle Barrientes Vela claims she’s going to be brought in front of a grand jury in the next few days.

The press conference lasted for more than an hour on the steps of the courthouse, and Constable Vela was waiting for the district attorney to come out and answer her questions.

Constable Vela claims that she’s going to be brought in front of a grand jury based on an incident that happened Easter Sunday when she was providing security at Rodriguez Park.

She said she has no idea what the incident is.

A few days ago, Constable Vela’s Office came under fire when deputy Leo Moreno was arrested on aggravated perjury charges. Security video obtained to us by an open records request show that Moreno was brought into the sally port at the jail. He could’ve been booked there but he was then taken out of the sally port.

Arresting deputies drove them around a little while before bringing them in front of waiting news cameras.

SHE GONE!

FBI raids Bexar County Precinct 2 Constable's office

Precinct 2 Constable Michelle Barrientes Vela spoke to KENS 5 late Monday morning. She said she was not officially notified of the investigation (NO WAY!! FORREAL?) and she believes she is being attacked.

Once again, I still don't understand how the constables were allowed to expand their power so broadly. Can't the sheriff's department handle 99% of what constables currently do? Keep them, let them be the baliff for the JP, serve some warrants, but this duplication of services seems a little silly.

They probably could, but then what would all those poor public servant Constable and Deputy Constables do?

I had to pay off a ticket at that office.  Close to home and all that. It's weird though, it's inside a strip mall next to a karate school and a big lots.  The county tax assessor is across the parking lot in a former Walgreens.

This is the most San Antonio S. Texas thing ever

Better regional coverage this way.

The four years I lived in S. Texas we had a sheriff busted for running drugs for a cartel, a district judge commit suicide after the FBI raided his office and home, and an entire school board indicted for sending construction projects to a BIL. A few years after I GTFO, an entire police task force was busted for robbing drug dealers and selling their dope, a la Training Day.

Corruption at the county constable level didn't even make the news.

"Yes, I am being attacked," Barrientes Vela said. "I don't know why they are in my office today, or what they are looking for. I will just say we have done nothing in this office. All I have done is stand up for my community and I will continue to do that."

Pretty typical South of the border stuff here.  Wall

Problem is, the "border" when it comes to that sort of public bidness.....may be the Guadalupe river.

And in the east, where there's a similar french-accented flavor of public bidness, the border may be at the San Jacinto river.

She got caught shaking down people on Easter. She got caught arresting her own deputy on fake charges bc he’s going to run against her. She then got caught delaying booking him in jail so that the news media that she called to video him being escorted to jail in handcuffs could have time to get there.

Surely there’s a crime there somehow.
