Daughter said the kids were CGI'd since they've hit puberty and changed a lot since the first movie.  You could tell here and there, but they did a pretty good job of keeping them looking the same age.

I think I read somewhere that they filmed scenes for Chapter 2 with the kids while they filmed Chapter 1 so they would look the same.

The horror aspects were pretty good but the script felt like it was written by an ADHD kid on a full cocaine bender.

Don't understand the lunatic kid who murdered his father scenes. All the scenes with that guy were terrible. They had the whole Paul Bunyon scene talk about a "secret" but never revealed what the secret was. Just disjointed.

the secret was revealed at the end when he went back to where he carved the initials.

The book was written by a guy on a cocaine bender.

Spoiler

Ritchie was gay and secretly in love with Eddie.  They somewhat foreshadowed it right before when Bowers was calling him a fag at the arcade.  They showed that Eddie's death hit him the hardest.  Confirmed it when he carved their initials into the fence at the end.  R + E = ❤️

Bowers was just a guy that represented the evil that permeated the town.  He was a psycho in the first mini-series and book too.

I thought that was all pretty obvious before he went back to carve the initials.

Just did a rewatch of this over the last couple of days (hey, it's long).  A few thoughts.  The movie stuck to the book (the adult side and some of the kids side) really close for the first 1.5 hours.  Then, it gets off track for a bit, but the ending does a good job of hitting a lot of the bits at the end of the book.  What it mostly suffers from is being the adult half of the book.  But the kid aspects they added were pretty good (clubhouse, etc).  I've also decided they made the spider look way scarier than the miniseries (or even the book) did.  Yes, they changed some things and omitted some others, but it's a solid adaptation, even if it can't stand alone well without part 1 and, let's face it, nothing ever will touch the book.
