Sunday: After a Bacchanal Sunday, tried Seafood Sally’s (from the Marjie’s Grill folks). It was great. Didn’t have much of a raw bar that night, so went for the boil platter, turkey necks and fried catfish. 6D2AFCE1-1833-433A-99EB-A87C67CEB224.thumb.jpeg.999e1471cf18c946a17f6bc1a8af08b9.jpeg75EA28DC-5CCC-4E88-8C63-75FDA6792E1A.thumb.jpeg.55719e21f15d3e54c9120c5727fd8dba.jpeg

Monday night was back on Oak to see George Porter at Maple Leaf. Intended to eat healthy but ended up at Bouligny Tavern for some beet-cured salmon with rye blinis and crawfish gougéres. Bouligny is a great neighborhood spot on Magazine - their Fig Old Fashioned is great.

Mid-City yesterday. Clesi’s for crawfish, the Pal’s. Hit up Finn McCool’s for beers beforehand - love that they’ve expanded outdoor seating during COVID. 45F3D45C-45E2-4C86-B9D4-348B0E80682D.thumb.jpeg.5ce8745d5f06f927f512e50201ae48f0.jpeg7BCC2B9F-B4E4-4AF8-A575-8AEA4D8D6E60.thumb.jpeg.b2fec4c7cd3c73ce3d861644e9930d21.jpeg

Heading there tomorrow for three nights with wife and two kids (12 and 10).  Definitely going to do WWII museum.  Any other ideas that kids will like?  I have only ever been with wife/friends and we basically have just partied or Jazz Fest.

The Aquarium there is really nice.  Kids should enjoy it.

Ride the streetcar (cash only)

Walk down Bourbon St in the early evening. Stop in at Lafitte or Carousel. Then walk up Frenchman St to see bands on the street

Go to City Park, rent bikes, visit the Sculpture Garden and play mini golf and finish up at Cafe Du Monde

Rent bikes and bike along Crescent Park

Go on a bayou tour and see alligators

Streetcar is not cash only. You can (and should) download the RTA app and just buy tickets on your phone.

There is a baby orangutan at the Audobon zoo.

Also, Spotted Cat has a parklet now - saw lots of families listening to the daytime shows on Frenchman.

Not (directly) food-related but this is the crowd to ask. Going to be in the city in a couple weeks and need a recommendation or two for a Sunday outing. Outside the Qtr and Garden District. (Pretty much the only 2 areas I been to.) Somewhere we can uber / different part of the city to explore, hit a few bars during the day, grab a bite to eat.

Thanks in advance.

Look into the walking tours.  There are several in the Quarter and Garden District, but a few outside of those in Treme and maybe some other places.  Voodoo Tour by Robi was pretty good and I think there is a Treme Tour as well.  There are a few places to grab a drink and eat.  Lil' Dizzy's is the one place we hit twice last year in NOLA - fried chicken and soul food.  I'm not sure what else there is outside of those areas.

Would recommend Bayou St John and City Park to walk around. There’s a Cafe du Monde in City Park, and tons of bars and restaurants around.

Also, could take the ferry to Algiers Point. The Point is a pretty nice historic neighborhood, and while it’s got a pretty sleepy feel there are a few places to try: Crown and Anchor, Old Point and Dry Dock Cafe.

Saint Germain. Fried chili shrimp (incredible) and hangar steak, with Lopez de Heredia Tempranillo. Lots of tourists now with the James Beard nom, but still an easy bar spot. 3F90E2A0-1F21-489B-9E32-99A57C7EE52B.thumb.jpeg.9828695de097a64870951ce174e71b0a.jpeg74902673-4AB0-4BA8-B54E-ADAA9870A575.thumb.jpeg.3a7f6a9975d1139a0198b4699789d5c5.jpeg

I could eat a trough of the shrimp. That looks awesomeness.

On the ground for JazzFest tomorrow.

Kids were starving, wanted “noodles” so we googled for something close to the airport.

Wound up at Bain Mi Boys, which is connected to a Texaco Station on Airline.

The good thing about coming to NOLA with young kids, they eat early. And since Parkway now closes at 6:00; you can actually make it there for dinner.

The James Brown: not going to win any beauty contest, but did win a poboy competition.

Went to check out Breakaway’s since Ian McNulty has been raving about it. Had the daube po boy with garlic fries and crawfish fritters - pretty great. It’s in the Marigny in the old Lost Love Lounge spot (RIP), so pretty hipster, but I welcome seeing a new place doing elevated New Orleans cooking, a rarity nowadays. Oh, and they do boozy sno-balls too. 5FB7555C-0AA9-419F-BD57-EB0FEB6772EF.thumb.jpeg.8f617150fbd7a0f5a5cbdddd38f6dbc6.jpegA9A6F965-DE61-47E8-ABAB-0E02A9C9A605.thumb.jpeg.957549d8ad7680d22883696d6b8036ab.jpeg

Fuck me that daube po boy looks awesome. Well dressed. Boozy snowballs. What a fucking great idea. What kind did you get?

Yeah I was pretty surprised that I devoured that po boy after snacking all day, that gravy was fantastic. For sno balls, did the pretty baby (nectar cream and vodka) and green goblin (absinthe, lime and Cointreau).

Staying up by the fairgrounds, so went to Toast for breakfast:

Got the Aebleskivers to start (a cross between pancake and beignets):

Anyone else (on mobile) always going to post #1667 when you click ‘Next unread’? Pics are great, but sucks to scroll down each time.

It almost never works for me in any thread.  Mobile or computer, doesn't matter.

In town for work and need suggestions for dinner tonight.  I want to eat copious amounts of fried seafood and have a stiff drink.  Maybe some red beans and rice as well.

My normal po boy stop (Johnny's) is closed today and tomorrow, of course the only two days I am in town.

Gimme Parkway po-boys over Johnny's or Domilise's. Only been there once (day after the TX-Georgia game), but there was as much shrimp on the plate as there was the sandwich, and the sandwich was loaded.

Question:  I need to plan a birthday dinner in New Orleans for a guest of honor that really doesn't like creole or Cajun food and is iffy on any sort of aggressive seafood.  She is being a good sport and is going to Antoine's for a nice lunch the next day, but I'd like to be cool with her and find a nice restaurant that doesn't focus on that food.

Any thoughts?
