Nothing really matters with Barnes until the tournament anyways. He's not going to silence any of his critics until he wins in the tournament.

True, and the NCAA tournament is absolutely more important than the regular season. I just think it would be frustrating if you were a Tennessee fan, your team lost four games all year, you spent weeks at #1, and.... you end up as the runner-up in your own conference.

Getting to the Final Four would eliminate a lot of that frustration but they really blew an opportunity to repeat as SEC champions.

shit, they didn't even win the conference

yeah, the top of the league lived up to the billing this year, even if the lower half was no good. SEC has been a pretty good league the last 2-3 years, and even a great season like that wasn't enough.

especially given how fucking dirty LSU is, it's not a cone of shame or anything, just one of those things a fan will look back on and think "God DAMNIT we should have won that".

for real. these aren't even allegations, this is "our sitting conference champ is absolutely guilty here".

The top 3 teams in the SEC were all good this year (LSU, Tennessee and Kentucky). After that it's just a lot of bubble type teams. Ole Miss was a lot better than expected.

But I thought the SEC would actually be better this year. Florida, Auburn, MS State, and Vanderbilt have all been kind of meh to bad based on their expectations.

It's pretty fucking funny the SEC's going to vacate a championship and it DOESN'T belong to Kentucky

Kentucky got the death penalty for the 1953 season. They almost got the death penalty again in 1988. Then Rick Pitino was their coach. Then John Calipari was their coach. They've learned nothing. They never will. They never will HAVE to.

That's the biggest issue with the NCAA. Selective enforcement.

Anyone with a brain knows Cal has been cheating his ass off at Kentucky. I have a hard time caring about LSU though. If you're dumb enough to get caught you deserve the punishment.

my favorite part of the above video, and one of the best things about Rick Barnes/why he's such a great recruiter- for better or worse he is his authentic self 100% of the time, and he treats you as such, which often really impresses the parents of recruits. case in point from the video, for those who haven't watched:

It's Rick's first ever time to meet Admiral Schofield and his dad, and Rick says, "Oh, you're a big boy. You like to eat steak? Yeah. You like to eat potatoes too? Yeah, I bet you do. You ain't gone touch a basketball until you lose 30 lbs." (Dad looks at Admiral like, "yep, he's the one.")

Ive obviously made this point several times throughout the years as his style is in great contrast to Shaka's all coach speak all the time style, and i thought that was a great example.

The referee who called the game deciding foul on Grant Williams with 0.6 seconds vs LSU was suspended after that game and has not officiated an SEC game since then. Turns out he's an LSU fan, and Tennessee and UK should once again be co-champions of the league...for a second time this year.

Kentucky is "The Kansas of the SEC."

Genetic studies have shown that Rick Barnes is 1/8th flounder.

Voltwitter figured him out pretty quick and it’s amazing how fast this got swept under the rug. I didn’t want to bring it up because we still should have won and that was a foul but there was a lot of bullshit calls before that. Because we lost to Auburn I believe it would be Kentucky that would be the champ if LSU forfeited.

"we not gone let it get out of hand like it did the last two times where they shoot all the free throws; we gone shoot some free throws today."

if he's saying that with that much conviction to a reporter on live TV, you know that the refs have been hearing it.

i'm so sick of watching officials take over Tennessee games. To foul out Kyle Alexander on that shit with 11:00 to go and then not call Schofield getting hammered by three guys is asinine. just completely turned the tide of the game.

Alexander fouls out on a play where does nothing, 10 seconds after getting his fourth foul on a moving screen. next play schofield gets hammered by three guys driving to rim, no call. then the UK guy goes out of his way to run through Schofield on his way back down the court, no call. Then Williams gets hacked by multiple guys, no call. Then Williams goes straight up and playe perfect D and gets called.

All of that happened consecutively and it went from a one point Tennessee lead to a 7 point UK lead in that time.
