Awesome.  When I tell my kids I just want to hear one song, they know they need to Put a time limit on it or  I’ll pick a 72-73 dark star or playin.

i think 6/14/76 is my favorite Crazy Fingers.  I am at home with a sick kid today and am going to check out 8/18/89 Greek Theatre

I had to take my kid to school this morning and I was whistling Mississippi Half Step. I stopped and told him that I would bet he didn’t know what song it was. He didn’t even miss a beat when he answered. It damn near brought a tear to my eye.

Over the weekend my 9 year old ran into my bedroom and proceeded to sing along to, as she calls it, “roll away the dew”.  She acts like she doesn’t like GD stuff, but her singing along shows it has grown on her.

Exactly. Some songs my son lives and will admit it. His favorites are Cold Rain & Snow, Shakedown Street, and I Need a Miracle. But I’ll hear him singing along to They Love Each Other or he won’t ask me to change it if I’m listening to Eyes of the World. I hope the music grabs him the way it grabbed me many years ago. It’s life changing and the world needs more Deadheads!

You know what these young people are doing after they run into another room in the house, don't you?  They're planting ice so they can harvest wind.

It's all these synthetic drugs, man.

I love Let the Good Times Roll-it’s one of my favorite show openers.   I love Sam Cooke’s original too (it’s really just called Good Times).  The Downhill From Here video is so great.

anyway, the third verse (Jerry’s) doesn’t appear in any other version I’ve heard. I’ve always wondered if they wrote it and added it in so everyone would have a verse to sing.  Googling only turns up one person asking the same question.  Maybe I’ll write Dave Lemieux.

And I hate the version that I’ve been seeing on some casino or cruise commercial lately.

There must be a Deadhead in the Thursday Night Football booth because every game this year has had a Dead song played into a commercial.  Last night it was Trucking with the "Houston too close to New Orleans" verse.

47 years ago tonight the Dead played Municipal Auditorium here in Austin.  Caught part of it on TIGDH on Sirius on my way home. The Other One is one of the better ones I’ve heard in a while.  Bob has a pretty cool solo of sorts somewhere in there.  Gonna check out some of the rest of the show now.

Well, since you heathens apparently have something better to do than drink and listen to the Grateful Dead I guess it is up to me to keep this thread going.  I'm jamming to 2/3/78 from Madison, Wisconsin tonight.  Great show!  May have to listen to the second set on the porch tonight.  It's beautiful in my corner of the world.

Also, some sad news to report in the passing of Joe Smith.  He was the music exec who signed the Dead to Warner Brothers back in the day.  He was featured prominently in the Scorsese documentary a few years ago.  He was pretty candid and pretty funny when interviewed about the Dead. He said he wouldn't eat or drink anything when he was around them because they dosed everything.

That guy was pretty funny on the doc.  I need to rewatch it properly as I watched it when it came out on my phone as our family toured Newfoundland.

listening to the jam>dark star from DaP 32 (3/24/73 philly spectrum).  The Spanish jam following the phil jam is pretty great.
The Spectrum shows from that era are amazing.  9/21/72 (DiP36) is one of the best front to back show they ever played (best ever Cumberland, top 3 bird song, top 5 dark star.  Great Dew).  The Truckin>other one jam from 9/21/73 has my personal favorite jam ever right before a great MLB jam.  Not rated high on Heady, but should be.

I'm currently listening to one of the shows I went to, 3/17/94 at Rosemont Horizon.  I will always have a special affinity for the shows I went to, but the band I saw in 93 and 94 was a complete shell of the band I've loved for the last 30 years.  It's amazing what  difference what just 4 years makes.  One of the biggest regrets in my life will be that I didn't get on the bus sooner.

I guess I traded places with you.  I was there at that run in Winter/early Spring of 1993, but by 1994 I had moved to San Antonio where the Grateful Dead played such famous shows as "Quien?" and "Cual Fecha?"  The 17th is the best show of that 3-night run, but the 18th is a close second.  The sound was never that great at that venue unless you were directly in front of the stage (it was a union scam build designed to not really accomplish anything other than DePaul basketball-a campus 20 miles away and tractor pulls which aren't really all that dependent on acoustics).  But they always "brought it" when they came to anywhere in Chicago, IMHO.  Out of the 12-15 I saw there, really only one bad show stands out, not bad considering I saw them on their down-slope.  Last Chicago show as at Rosemont (then called AllState Arena) in 2009 with Warren Haynes with the incarnation known simply as "The Dead."  The parking lot community of the 1993 shows at the Rosemont Horizon run was a screaming reminder that certain drugs and below zero temperatures were not always a good mix.   Good times, good times...

My first show was the 3/17/94 Rosemont show. I was 17, in high school, and drove up with my brother who was at A&M (I learned from his mistakes).  He saw them in Vegas the previous  spring.  It was awesome of him to plan this trip so I could experience a show.  I really like the Touch, lazy river road, and althea in the first set and the pre drums portion of the second set.  The Dew and Rain are both really good too.  Of the 4 shows I saw, it is the only one worth listening too from start to finish.  They really were a shell by then.

i remember talking to some older guys from San Marcus who were sitting in front of us (we were on the left side maybe 1/2 way up, tough to remember).  There was also some asshole who kept yelling “Goldschlager (sp?)” and “play a little disco,  play some shakedown” through the first set, but luckily he moved on at some point.  It is weird the things I remember.

Weird, it probably was you.  I don’t remember the taping, but it was definitely 3 guys.

Another weird coincidence from that show is shortly after getting to UT in the fall, I met and started hanging out with a really cool girl from Chicago. Maybe a week or so later the Rosemont show came up and we figured out she and her friend had been sitting next to us at the show.  We both bought our tickets second hand from a broker called Mr. B’s in Skokie and had talked a bit at the show.

We bought tickets for the 16th and 17th from that same broker in Skokie.  And it probably was us at that show.  As you look at the stage, we were on the left hand side about halfway between the stage and the curve of the building in back (maybe a little closer to the stage than the curve).  Did we pass you bowls all night long?  I seem to recall someone there with their little brother going to his first show.  We had gone the night before as well.  The guy I mentioned that was taping was also tripping his balls off.  He kept looking at me and saying "a sphincter says what" and I would say "huh?".  He probably did that about 20 times before he finally figured out that I knew what he was doing.  Later in the show I looked at him and knew he was about to hurl.  I grabbed his recording equipment from him and said "if you going to hurl, hurl that way" and pointed away from us.  He nodded in agreement then turned and hurled all over the floor.  When I say that they were a shell of the themselves, it doesn't mean they weren't great that night and that I didn't have a blast.  My first show was 6/13/93 and I could notice a change in Jerry just in those few months between my shows.  When I listen to shows from 88-90, it's amazing that just 3 or 4 years later they would be so different.

That is exactly where we were sitting.  So cool!  My brother had us supplied similar to your friend, so from ~Eternity on, I was in peak form.  I remember really getting into it during Iko, Iko and how intense the peaks were in the Dew.  The crowd was going nuts.

its weird how shitty the recording quality is those last few years given how good they sound from 20-25 years prior.   And fuck 6 song first sets.

Wait, you didn’t smoke pot but you took acid? I do recall talking to y’all now and I remember a kind of nervous anxiousness on your face. I remember being in a pretty good mix of people (usually is at a show) and many people passing what they had around. My friends and I had been in an Iko kick all week. We had a tape from some show with Iko on it and we listened to it a thousand times in the way to Chicago. That may have been the highlight of the show. In the parking lot before the show on the 16th, there was a guy recording the scene. He asked me and my buddies what songs we wanted to hear and our answers were LL Rain, Althea, and Iko Iko. We heard all three during those two shows. The last four songs that show were fantastic: The Wheel>All Along the Watchtower>Morning Dew>Rain. Another highlight was during Uncle John’s Band hearing the whole arena draw a collective breath to scream “goddamn well I declare, have you seen the light” as loudly as they possibly could.

I know Facebook sucks, but it is good for things like this. The Daily Dead. Thirty years ago today the GD were in LA and played what looks to be a damn good show. I’ll have to listen to this tonight after football.

I am jealous of that shirt.  I wanted it but loaned my brother money in the lot and then didn’t have enough cash to get 2 shirts.  I have always wished I got that one. I got a white one that looks like the MD snake symbol.  I talked to my brother and he remembers y’all taping.  That was the first time I had ever heard The Wheel.   It was so cool coming out of space.

You we’re probably sharing with my brother.  I hadn’t ever smoked at that point and don’t think I did there.  That show was my first heady experience.  What a way to do it, nothing but great memories!

Man, that's one way to take on the ropes course.  Your first Dead show, and you'd never even smoked weed?  So you dropped acid and peaked during Morning Dew?

Wow.  I'm picturing Slater from "Dazed & Confused" movie talking about you..."You guys here about that dude's little brother, name of Druggist.  Never even left the city limits man, drops a double-dose at his first Dead show.  By the time Morning Dew rolls into encore space...you can't handle that shit on strong acid man."

Summer of '92 was the first time I smoked weed at a Dead Show at Soldier Field.  We were down on the field, 50 yards back.  Could barely make out the people on stage, but I kept looking to the right of the stage and kept thinking this woman who could see via the stage lights up in the perm. seats halfway up on the aisle.  I swore it was my RTF teacher from that previous semester in high school.  Kept telling myself I was imagining it all.  Couldn't possibly be her, she never talked about good music, and although she was probably 30-35 at the time, I thought oldies like that didn't like the Dead (what did I know?).  So I finally calm down by the second set and really enjoyed the buzz.  Second week of school next year, I see her in a Steve Miller Band tie-dye from that run of shows.  Mind Fucking Blown.

Speaking of Chicago, Bob Weir & the Wolf Bros. playing the stunningly gorgeous Chicago Theatre in March.  Gonna synch that one up for trip to the bank for business.  That is an absolutely perfect venue for his Wolf Bros. incarnation.  And I'm hoping we'll have some good outdoor shows with Dead & Co. come late spring/summer.

I wasn’t really prudish about substances, but hadn’t smoked for a few reasons.  I had some friends who tripped all the time in HS and was around them a lot while it was going on.  I knew if I tripped, I wanted it to be somewhere like a Dead show.  It was amazing.  One of the best nights of my life and truly a life-changing experience.  The only other time I did acid was at the second night at Soldier Field that summer. Also an awesome experience.  Traffic opened.

Both my brother and I think it is pretty cool we met up online all these years later.  I think we took a few pictures and when I get a chance later this week, I will try to find them to see if I got the back of your head in  any.

That would be awesome!!

I came across this today.  It's a couple of years old now, but it's new to me.  It's various bands playing Terrapin Station mashed together.  It's pretty damn cool.

I also saw this today.  A bunch of people playing Ripple together from around the workd.

This Help>Slip>Frank from RFK 91 is pretty good

This Bird Song came up a couple songs later.

Gonna keep going until I hit 10-15 miles.  Good ride!

The sheer amount of fire power on this stage is absolutely absurd IMO

I know I'll get a lot of flak for this, being a huge Brent fan, but it makes you think about the massive void left after Brent's death.

The 'It's All Over Now, Baby Blue' encore is absolutely amazing

One of my favorite shows.  I am not usually a big CC Rider fan, but the CC>it takes a lot to laugh is so good.  The interplay between Branford, Bruce, and Jerry is great.

I'm listening to the greatest band that ever existed tonight.  Currently I'm listening to my favorite show 7/4/89,but I'll probably jump around a bit tonight.  I was already listening to some Dead & Co earlier.  I listened to the 12/2/17 show that I attended with Lobo.  I hope they mix in some Texas shows this next tour.

Merry Christmas to all of my fellow Deadheads!  I'm currently jamming the 10/10/82 show from the Frost Theater in Palo Alto.  It's a pretty damn good early 80's show, which has probably been the hardest time frame for me to get into.  I've heard a few shows here and there from 79-86 or so that were good, but by and large I don't spend much time on these years.  This is the show with the infamous LL Rain where Bobby breaks down.  The Crazy Fingers is pretty good and The Wheel is stellar.  The Wheel rarely gets brought up as one a favorite song of theirs (or the JGB), but it's a great fucking song.  I got to hear it at the St. Patty's Day 94 show the druggist and I were talking about.  Any way, I'm drinking whisky and listening to some great music while I wait for my kid to fall asleep.  Merry Christmas everyone!

Merry Christmas!!!

i just spent an hour outside listening to the warlocks 89 shows and breaking down boxes since our recycling is being picked up tomorrow.    What a great Feel like a Stranger (without a net version?)

I didn’t get anything Dead related yet, but I know my brother got me the vinyl of either Dick’s picks 24 or 34.  I’ll have to wait to see him.  It might be a straight up trade as I got him #24.

Did you ever find the pictures from the Chicago show?

I didn’t get a chance to look yet.  I have a huge box of photos to go through and want to wait for a time my kids aren’t around.  Not sure I want them to see everything in there and they will destroy whatever loose order is there.

I heard a great Stagger Lee version earlier today, is that anything?

Am still trying to synch up a business trip with Chicago while Bob & the Wolf Bros. are playing.

I still say there's a decent chance that Dead & Co. announce a summer/autumn tour that rolls through Texas.

If not, fuck this shit.  Fuck it all to hell....

I listened to the Red Rocks ‘78 ship of fools today.  Such a great version with one of my favorite Jerry vocal performances.

also, I am pretty pumped for the 1st couple Dave’s Picks that have been announced for next year. The Jai-Alai Fronton show has been on my wish list for years.  I renewed my subscription to keep my complete set going.  My mom got me the first year subscription shortly before she got sick and the last one that year arrived after she had passed.  I keep getting it partly in tribute to her, but mostly because I love getting quarterly Dead in the mail  She would definitely want me to keep treating myself.

You people have forced me to interact with the Facebook groups I am on about the Grateful Dead.  If that's what I have to do then I will do it, but I won't be happy about it. I'd much rather hear about your shows or what y'all are listening to than to have to log in to Facebook to be part of a Grateful Dead community. Oh, and Lobo if they come get as many tickets as you can and I will make sure they don't go unused.  You know I will be there with you again. /no homo

The Grateful Dead played the condemned JFK stadium in Philly on 7/7/89. It just so happened to also be the greatest Wharf Rat ever. Maybe it would be fitting that Dead & Co play the last show there before it gets the wrecking ball.
