impeachment inquiry hearings thread

man, they are backed up against a wall. that's such a short-sighted position.

here's what you're not seeing: any legitimate defense of the president based on the evidence discovered so far...meaning, no republicans that have been involved in the hearings have even attempted to defend the information revealed in those hearings.

now that all of the evidence is about to become public, republicans are going to be forced to defend the actual evidence and testimony of these witnesses. if there isn't a single republican trying to spin the actual evidence/testimony now, how are they expected to do it when it's all there in black and white for everyone to see?

It doesn't matter. They only need to pound the table enough to convince their base  give cover to  their cult members.  Whether their "defense" makes any sense, is completely hypocritical or whatever is completely irrelevant to everything.

it does matter. if public opinion continues to rise and favor removal, enough of them are going to have to vote to remove him. they don't have a defense and they're losing ground in the court of public opinion because of it...and that's before everyone is able to see the evidence and watch the testimony.

They're standing behind a president who called half the country scum. They don't care. They just want their base, packed courts, and foreign interference

Yes, they only care about re-election.

With the GOP and Trump 2020 campaign as intertwined as they are only a year from Election Day, I suspect it soon won’t matter and it’ll publicly be ride-or-die for the GOP up until the win-at-all-costs election.

You’re right, Republicans who have heard the actual testimony, etc. are, for the most part,  not attacking specifics from said testimony (they might be compelled to keep classified information classified, but I have to think one of those dipshits would have opened their mouth otherwise), and instead the GOP continues to attack the process.

I suspect that when the shit hits the fan/becomes public, that Republicans will continue to attack the process as long as their polling data suggests that is helping.

But yeah, we will fast hit a point where more than a few are either going to retire, or even vote against Trump.  It just feels like the Republicans are terrified of the actual information.

There. Were. Republicans. In. The. Room. Who. Asked. Questions.

Fuck this stopping with Trump. This whole party needs to go away.

If you still consider yourself a Republican at this point either abandon the party or off yourself. You do not deserve to live in America with the damage you have done to our country.

First, they will howl that any and all testimony taken prior to Thursday is null and void.  Then, Gym Jordan and Matt Gaetz will don Nancy and Chuck masks and wrestle naked on the steps of the Capitol Building while Trey Gowdy and Lindsey Graham churn butter and recite passages from Leviticus.

The Aristocrats?

Republicans love the troops so much they....call them double agents

Republicans shit all over Kelly, they shit all over Mattis, Trump shit all over a Gold Star family, they shit all over John McCain, Trump was a draft-dodger and everybody in his immediate family somehow avoided serving, Trump said some incredibly callous shit about meeting families at Dover, the fucking over of the Kurds, and now they are shitting all over this guy.

I wonder if they ever stop and think about the fact that the rank-and-file, vets, families, etc. do notice this shit.

Sondland was a pretty piss-poor henchman, given his testimony.  Or rather, he did a piss-poor job of defending Trump, and today had to review (revise) his testimony.

Bolton is gonna run a train on Trump all by himself - Trump made a bigly mistake bringing an unabashed ideologue with an ego like Bolton's into the middle of everything.

For some reason, all of these opening statements keep leaking to the media a day or two before the actual testimony.

I'm curious how that keeps happening.

The Democrats benefit very little from leaking them.  It neither hurts nor helps them, since they are after far more juicier stuff that may not be in an opening statement.

But the Republicans....If they can leak damning stuff out there early, it helps them to try and dilute things (and or get it lost in the news cycle when another story pops up), and it also provides a vector of attack for the Trumpkin base and Fox News against whoever is testifying.  It gives everybody a chance to get their talking points mapped out.

Leaking the night before helps Dems. It's all over the nightly news shows and it will be on all the early morning shows. I don't think that dilutes what's coming tomorrow, it actually helps give his testimony more exposure. Personally without the leak, I would have had no clue that he was testifying tomorrow. Now I'll make sure to keep an eye on it.
