In the picture, which Parnas posted on social media, he and Fruman are seen smiling alongside Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and Rudy Giuliani, the President's personal lawyer.

At one point during the party that night, Parnas and Fruman slipped out of a large reception room packed with hundreds of Trump donors to have a private meeting with the President and Giuliani, according to two acquaintances in whom Parnas confided right after the meeting.

Quote

Eventually, according to what Parnas told his confidants, the topic turned to Ukraine that night. According to those two confidants, Parnas said that "the big guy," as he sometimes referred to the President in conversation, talked about tasking him and Fruman with what Parnas described as "a secret mission" to pressure the Ukrainian government to investigate Joe Biden and his son Hunter.

Quote

In the days immediately following the meeting, Parnas insinuated to the two people he confided in that he clearly believed he'd been given a special assignment by the President; like some sort of "James Bond mission," according to one of the people.

To Parnas, the chain of command was clear: Giuliani would issue the President's directives while Parnas, who speaks fluent Russian, would be an on-the-ground investigator alongside Fruman, who has numerous business contacts in Ukraine.

"Parnas viewed the assignment as a great crusade," says one of the people in whom Parnas confided. "He believed he was doing the right thing for Trump."

I’m not Sondland, but he seems to be guy with plenty of money. So if I was, I would paying for, and huddling with, a whole bevy of first rate white shoe DC criminal lawyers as to how to handle these next steps. And I would listen to whatever the fuck it is they had to say, and act accordingly.

So unless we have some white shoe criminal defense DC lawyer on surly, I have no idea what to expect from the guy.

I expect this from the guy:

  • He's not going to do jail time to protect Trump
  • He damn sure isn't going to do jail time to protect Rudy.
  • He's 62 and very, very wealthy.  He's not going to be running for office in the future, he's not going to give a shit about Trump tweeting at him and Trump's base hating him.

similar to the "just look at the tower logs", this whole episode has a few good men parallels everywhere.

I think Trump wants to desperately say it, because he loathes the fact that all of these libtards are saying he doesn't have the right to withhold aid, to fire ambassadors, etc., etc.  It's driving him crazy that people are claiming he doesn't have the right to withhold aid to other countries, or whatever it is he's trying to do at the moment.

I think this was pointed out earlier, but I want to repeat it: when Trump was tweeting about Marie Yovanovitch and her post to Somalia, we're all thinking-well yeah, that's because people who donate a million dollars like Sondland don't go to Somalia. Somalia is for the dedicated career public servants who actually put the country first.

So two days into the impeachment hearings we have Trump live tweeting a witness and these gems.  At some point, this shit has to matter to Trump's base a little.

This is not about Trump's base.  Trump's base couldn't keep Barrack Hussein Obama, a Muslim, Atheist, Marxist, Socialist, Communist, Chicagoan, Hawaiian, homosexual, bi-sexual Kenyan from Indonesia, out of the White House.  Twice.  Trump's base couldn't win him the popular vote in 2016.  Trump's base couldn't stop the Dems from flipping some states and taking the House in 2018.  We've already seen plenty of races won by Democrats, where the Republican candidate was personally endorsed and supported by Trump, where Trump even campaigned locally for said candidate, and Trumpkins couldn't get that candidate over the finish line.

This is about getting people who sat on their asses in 2016, out to vote.  This is about peeling off those voters who aren't Trumpkins, but who cared less for Hillary in 2016, out to vote D next year.  This is about getting those people who came out in 2018 to flip the House and some Senate and state-wide seats, out to vote next year.

This also about making Republicans, particularly those in the Senate, go on the record defending Trump and what he stands for, ahead of 2020's election, which, again, feeds into the above.  Every Republican who votes to support Trump during impeachment, is going to have that vote thrown in their face when they are up for re-election.  This is creating election ads for the Democrats, that plenty of Republicans don't want to see running.

One of the things that drives me crazy in your article is this:

Quote

The December meeting at the White House is not the first report of Parnas and the President discussing Ukraine. The Washington Post has reported that in April 2018 at a small fundraising dinner in a suite at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, Parnas told Trump that the US ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, was unfriendly to him and his interests. Trump, according to the Post report, which cited people familiar with Parnas' account of the event, suggested that Yovanovitch should be fired.

A year later in May 2019, Yovanovitch was recalled from her post.

This is exactly what the Office of Government Ethics said would happen and has happened and continues to happen. That foreign and domestic entities would patronize the President's business in order to gain favor, especially since he refused to divest wholly from his business interests. Nothing has stopped it and here it is and every Trump property that he owns has  continued this in-your-face 'so what, get over it' to the American people to the point that it jeopardizes our elections and well, pretty much everything. Just get this man out of office, please.

The big orange one with the goofy grin is the second biggest dildo I've ever seen. The biggest involved South Austin's mom, a plastic bottle of Popov, Hugo in a gimp suit, and a lowrider oldies playlist on loop at an extremely high level.

I like how Pence is the one farthest away from Trump while Rudy is standing right next to him.

I would love to see her get roped into a Gym Jordan/Mark Meadows/Devin Nunes/Sean Hannity gotcha! plot only to lose her seat. It would be sublime.

How long will we have to wait for @Incredulityand @Zavala to come in here and start trying to blow smoke up our asses about the fucking "transcript"?

I think the talking point has moved to "rules being violated" for the time being.

@Doc Sam Beckett-I'll see what I can do. It takes a Quantum Leap for me to do most things techy.

That opening statement from the note taker is amazing.  It seems Airman OMalley and Airman Rodriguez actually recalled EVERY PLANE THAT HAS EVER ENTERED 50 MILES OF SOVEREIGN AIRSPACE.

Also, given the dude’s description of his posts, and given my extensive knowledge from watching shows like The Americans, there is zero doubt that dude gets a check from Intelligence.

I think trump is the opposite of Jessup.  Jessup hated the sneaking around.  He runs hit outfit as he sees fit.  His job is to get from A to B.  He got fromA to B didn’t he?  Who the fuck are you, pretty boy who won’t get dirt on his hands, to question the manner by which he does it.

trump loves being a weasel.  The whole thing is theater.  So long as he does a quick hug of the flag, yell at a black person, he gets to cheat his way into anything.  There is no such thing as a mission.  It’s just taking while the taking is good.  And he does want money and he does want medals.

Exactly. Trump may truly believe that Joe Biden is guilty of putting his son on a company board for a big payout because that is 100% what Trump would do in that position. He can't believe that Biden wouldn't be using the VP position for personal gain.

Both could be guilty but I'm not interested in moral equivalency.  But the FBI is how you find out if a US citizen is committing a crime.

If we lived in a country that actually cared about the rule of law instead of the grifter's guide to the galaxy we would already be dealing with the penis-in-chief Pence as the fill-in until November 2020. Instead we get the reality where Dotard continues to steal our tax dollars to line his pockets. What a time to be alive does not apply to this scenario.

"Who was at last year's Hanukkah party with Trump?"

"Lev Parnas and his partner."

"What's his partner's name?"

"Igor."

"Seriously.  What's his name?"

"It's Igor.  Dead serious."

"You know, it's not just me.  Lots of people are getting fatigued with your constant cynicism and lame jokes.  It's exhausting.  What's his name?"

"Dude, it's Igor.  Dead serious.  Lev's partner in crime is named Igor."

"Fuck off."

It's also part of why the impeachment is a good idea. Apply and hold enough pressure and his lid will pop. Either he'll self incriminate at the most basic and irrefutable level or he'll do something that is universally hated. My grandparents, who are solidly in the pro-Trump demographic, thought he was an absolute Yankee clown from NY who didn't care about anything except himself. Becoming the Republican nominee running against Hillary seemed to have magically erased all of that, but he may just remind the Rs that he's still the same doofus from NY that rural Texas used to make fun.

Trump is Col Jessup.

They don’t care about the transcript.  Its a tool in their political fight.  It’s an object.  A dildo to fuck themselves with.

Yeah I don't like this analogy.

Jessup was a bad guy, but at least he stood for something. He just did it in a detestable way.

The only thing Trump has ever stood for is himself.

there's always a tweet.

Trump's state of mind is acute need for investigations of the Bidens to boost his personal re-election propects in light of getting killed by Biden in a Fox poll:

July 26th 2019:  Trump realizes he's down by 10 pts in a Fox Poll

July 26th 2019: First hand witness David Holmes: TRUMP: "So, he's going to do the investigations?"  SONDLAND: "Zelensky's going to do anything you ask him."

Getting short shrift because of Republitards, but all this "hearsay" background testimony establishes pretty well this highly irregular shadow diplomacy thing.

That probably troubles me more than the whole aid/investigation thing.  What the fuck else were they up to?

I would start with Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and China. The first two because our policy seems so inexplicably weird. China, because Trump keeps mentioning we should ask China about Biden.
