Elizabeth Warren 2020

The advantage Warren has is her starting position is the far left and many casual centrist voters don’t know that.

She can go HAM on Trump with the rhetoric all day, which she does as good as anyone, while moving her policy positions closer to the center as election time approaches.

No one is going to out liberal Elizabeth Warren except maybe Bernie and she already has the Bernie Bros voters locked up if he doesn’t run.

My old bankruptcy professora. Sat in the front row everyday. Great prof, up there with Guy Wellborn, Mike Tigar, and Charles Alan Wright.  I was surprised to see her run for the Senate. Would be pretty cool if she ran for prez.

I’m not completely sold on Warren either.  I like her a lot because she is fundamentally fit for the office.  She’s well educated, experienced, wise, tough as nails, and doesn’t have nearly the political baggage of Hillary Clinton.

However, I’m skeptical on her approach to dealing with the major foreign policy concerns like the Middle East, Russia, China, and Ukraine. I’m also skeptical on her willingness to compromise in some domestic policy issues and dealing with the intelligence community.

She's too liberal for my taste, but she's intelligent, thoughtful, and she speaks like a grown-up.  And I don't recall her using any racial slurs or supporting any Alt-right lunatics.  And she seems unlikely to get us into a war with her Twitter account.  And I'm pretty sure she's never raped anyone or committed treason.

You guys realized she's a woman though?

That’s going to be another asset in 2020. Trump  has the womenfolk really pissed off and they’re looking for a female representative to knock Trump’s dentures out of his stupid fucking face.

This.

Racist and sexist stupidity has fared poorly at the polls since November 2016. Not only will women turn out in 2020, but some of 2016's bigots just won't bother.

Bottom line: the Republicans need to primary Trump, but won't.

On the old board, someone suggested the R's are goading her to get all whipped up and open her mouth.  They think the more she talks, the more she'll alienate centrist voters.

If that's the plan, it's a good one.

Not really a good plan. She has triggered Trump into saying a lot of stupid things, including things that come across as racist.

She’s an expert at triggering Trump.

Please do this....please...please...please....

I hope the Republicans go vote for Warren in the primaries like Democrats voted for Trump to ensure he’d win the nomination.

Yes, please don’t learn from the mistakes of the recent past.

Donald Trump won many areas because he appealed to the material concerns of the people there. He went in and told them their lives would become materially better, and he gave somewhat specific (and completely unrealistic) reasons that would happen (coal coming back, Carrier saving your jobs, etc...). This is not regional. If you go to a people and speak openly (not honestly, but openly) to their direct material concerns they will like you more than someone who speaks in asinine platitudes (Hillary).

If Warren does a better job of going to any area and speaking to their direct material concerns better than Trump, she'll win that area. Bing bong.

You couldn’t be more wrong.   She has the exact same appeal Bernie had in those areas.

Bernie is way more likeable than Warren.

Someone like Doug Jones or a Ralph Northam (VA governor) would be preferable to Warren.

Bernie couldn’t even get the black vote as a self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist running against Hillary Clinton.

Elizabeth Warren’s background is really interesting:

She was actually a Republican prior to 1996.

If she took the last name of her current husband, her name would be Elizabeth Mann

She has a lot of ties to Texas from her time in Houston and Austin at the University of Texas where she taught law for five years (83-87).

She was awarded a debate scholarship to George Washington University at age 16 and was the State Champion in debate in high school.

and more to my question - i know everyone gets unelectable to the sheep who only think by party and what they are told over the 2+ year election cycle.

i am asking the question - from a centrist to an actual human being with a pulse that can think. why/ how is EW so unelectable?

Not only was HC unelectable because of the normal operating procedure of our election process, but she had actual skins on the wall that really were concerning (and of course some positives too).

But EW?

Bernie energized his base in a way Warren will never be able to do.

She is an old, uninspiring candidate that will do little to get people to the polls.

Give me my man Doug Jones over her any day.

Remember the saying, “When they go low, we go high.” from the last cycle?

Elizabeth Warren is having none of that.  She wants Trump to go after her, she wants the twitter war because she’s a better counterpuncher than Trump could ever be.

2020: The race to see which candidate is more populist.

Trump is going to have to overcome being a very unpopular President but I am not sure the strategy is to go even more populist to try to beat him in an election. What is she going to sell to the Midwest? The US economy is leaving you behind due to unfair trade policy! I know the other guy said that but I'm not as mean as him.

I'm not ignorant of basically every function of government. I'm not a coward. I'm not golfing half my life. I'm not insecure. I'm not watching TV all day.

This, basically.

A populist message is very effective when it's coupled with xenophobia and FUD and Trump has all of that in spades. This is the one thing Trump has been consistent on during his Presidency. I don't think Warren will be able to out populist Trump.

Meh that old bag is a Massachusetts senator that inspires nobody. Nobody will be excited to vote for her

Meanwhile you look at someone like a Ralph Northam from VA or Doug Jones from AL - those guys are fresh faces that will do a better job resonating with working class voters.

Gonna lol when Democrats nominate a center-right piece of shit (like Hillary) because they don't want to alienate people who would never vote Democrat anyway.

Trump won the EC by less than 100k votes speaking like Bernie on trade. Bernie would have won the election had he just flipped a few votes that seemed to flip to R on a populist message. EW can clean up in the Midwest as pro-Union and a populist. And if Americans want a twitter battle royale she’ll own Trump’s ass. I think she’s what Trump claimed to be, a real populist. I think she’ll play very well in the general.

Hillary won the popular vote. The next Dem candidate has only to be marginally better in a few select States to win the presidency.

Trump isn't exactly converting anyone to his side. But all signs indicate he's energizing the opposition against him.

The popular vote doesn't mean shit.

Trump's key to victory was the rust belt and he is currently driving our economy off of a cliff to cater to those critical unemployable voters. As far as they are concerned he is fulfilling his campaign promises. Populism is an emotionally driven political tide and Trump has shown he has no shame in exploiting the class tension for his own benefit. He will continue to blame Mexicans, foreign manufacturing and ironically the capitalist elite for the miserable lives of those in the rust belt. Warren will roll in with a similar message minus the xenophobic vitriol which has been surprisingly effective for Trump.

Of course Trump could be impeached by 2020.
