"Her voice is so grating."

This is called internal misogyny.  Male politicians don't get critiqued for such things. Donald Trump can go up on stage and just go REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE and that's totally acceptable.

Where can I report for re-education, comrade?

Let's say Warren had indisputable proof she was part Native American, what difference would it make with the Trump supporters?
They'd question the credibility of whatever proof she presented and double down on Pocahontas.
It's just like Obama and the birth certificate.
It doesn't matter what the facts are, they just need an excuse to hate her in their little brains.

None. That’s not who she would be targeting if she was running.

Nothing she does would make the fringes changes their minds. But it could help with the folks in the middle.

I’d love to see a world where for six months politicians just owned all their bullshit. That would be fascinating. And in many cases I think it would help them.

Or maybe realize the Native American talking point was politically motivated nonsense to begin with and has nothing to do with her integrity or ability to do her job effectively.

csbrethren: I almost ran over Carville on a bike path in Alexandria VA once.

As funny as that sumbitch looks on TV, he looks even funnier when he thinks he's about to get run over, [/csb]

My wife sat at a table with him during a fundraiser.  Said he has the filthest glasses  you could imagine.  Visible finger prints from 6-8 feet away.  Shudder.

I saw him one other time, again in Alexandria. He had just come out of Starbucks, and was wearing these freaky bright red tennis shoes. He looked at me like he thought he'd seen me before.

Hate to break it to you but politically motivated nonsense happens a lot in politics. You can either defuse it or give it legs. I like the idea of owning it. You are free to disagree.

She has owned it repeatedly.  It’s you who chose not to believe her.

If I could have an assurance that she would act like Teddy once she got in, she'd have my vote.

I just did a quick google search to see if Warren had any public remarks on Teddy Roosevelt and this video was the first to pop up.

Exactly how many voices do you hear in your head daily ?  Cause they're all a bunch of liars apparently.

Unfortunately for her, or rather for whatever political ambitions she had, most people don't understand poor/white-trash Okies, and the environment she was raised in.

If there is one thing that poor white people in Oklahoma like to claim, it's that they have Cherokee (or other tribal) blood.  It won't get them a share of casino money, but it can do things like provide cheaper/better medical care, open up more scholarship opportunities, and let's face it, it gives them an excuse to blame for the socioeconomic situation.

Having looked at what the people around her, relatives and friends, have said, and things like her contributions to those corny little cookbooks that were all the rage back in the 80s (in her case, Cherokee cookbooks), I fully believe she was raised thinking she had a Cherokee ancestors.   And it's fucking Oklahoma, which means there is a semi-decent chance she had some Cherokee blood.   Many of the tribes intermarried like crazy with whites for various reasons (financial, education, etc.) while many whites saw it as a chance for more land.

I cannot fault her for that - there's two things poor white people in Oklahoma love to engage in - believing they have an Indian ancestor, and following OU football.

I've seen Trump and others throw around the whole DNA test thing, and while I don't think Trump knows the first thing about ancestry and DNA, those tests are meaningless for a lot of folks as far as showing Indian blood.  You pretty much have to have a full-blood Indian great-grandparent to see anything more than 5%-10% reflected in your DNA (and even then ethnicity/ancestry is not passed down evenly).  Hell, some DNA tests show me with no Native American blood, and others show "trace" amounts.  Doesn't matter though - I've got the documented family history, and so I have my little card that shows my Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood, with my membership in the Cherokee Nation, etc.

If you ever have the misfortune of hanging out with a group of Okies, subtly bring up that you've heard you have an Indian in the woodpile a few generations back, and you'll immediately have multiple people nodding their heads and telling their own stories of Cherokee princesses (which never existed).  Hell, next time you head up to Dallas for the OU game, seek out some OU fans and bring it up.  They'll talk your leg off about their Indian ancestors.

This is a great possible explanation and she should run with it.  It needs to be addressed and then she can move on.

Lying about your ethnic background is a weird thing.  Kind of like stolen valor.  You’re attempting to benefit personally/professionally by claiming something that you have no claim to.  I can see people viewing that differently.  She needs to own it.

And before anyone gets mad, yes I’m aware Trump lies all the time.  About a myriad of things.  Just saying it’s a little different.

"I realize Trump lies about everything but this one thing that another politician may or may not have lied about is different and needs to be explained."

Democrats never have issues with their own guys and sex or lying, but let a republican pull that.. and woooooooooe Nellly.

You can reverse that scenario of course.

Trump repeatedly, and just last week, lied about his parents being German immigrants.  His supporters giving a fuck about unsupported allegations that a senator lied about her heritage multiple decades ago is hysterical.  I can't wait to "but Trump" every single fucking accusation made by the GOP and the Trumpkins in 2020.

Warren grows up in Oklahoma being told and believing that she has Indian ancestors like many Okies and people flip out.

Meanwhile, Rick Perry believes that a degree in Animal Fucking Animal Science qualifies him to be in charge of the nation’s nukes and nuclear plants, and nobody in the GOP cares.

The reason people are and were pissed about Warrens lie was because it was used to gain employment (if you believe that story). That's different from saying you're just another white, euro centric, immigrant offspring. You get that right ?

The lie is still stupid and puzzling though.

I'd want a candidate who is as honest as possible, meaning EW is crossed off the list.

It’s kind of a big deal.

Everyone knows people who have cheated on their spouses, done some dishonest shit at work, or any other number of fairly typical lies. It doesn’t mean you approve, but you’re aware it’s in the realm of human behavior.

How many people know someone who falsely claimed they were a minority to gain sympathy or favor in some way?  It’s strange. Again I’d kind of lump it in with stolen valor or those random weirdos you hear that fake they have cancer or something.

Long story short.  Go with the bs explanation about being confused about it all and hope it goes away then. No reason to leave it unaddressed.

Bizarre - cheating on your spouse is better than buying off on some family history that says you have a smidgen of native american blood.

Thanks Trump for making so many people retarded.

Serial cheating on your spouse wasn't an issue for Bill Clinton for some reason.. oh wait ... he was a democrat so it was all good.  Yeah yeah I know but Clinton....

(In fairness, I think you were retarded before Trump made everyone retarded.)

But Clinton?

It wasn't an issue for Clinton because it wasn't an issue, and neither is someone making a claim about having some native american blood.

Cheating on your spouse wasn't an issue for Bill Clinton ?  Both are issues to many people, and using alleged Native American heritage to gain employment is most definitely an issue if you're not Native American.

At this point I think Warren was naïve in making that claim without researching it first. There are millions of people in Oklahoma and Texas who claim Native American ancestry with zero evidence or corroboration. Their grandparents told their parents who told them that they have Cherokee blood or whatever. That doesn't make it a lie. If she knew she didn't have any Native American ancestry and still claimed it then it becomes a lie.

yes, coz he's your guy. BTW, Bernie is light years ahead of Trump in brainpower.

Bernie was on welfare and never had a job until he was in his mid 30s, when he finally got elected to a political position.  He is a loser.

Well, the people who equate cheating on your spouse with what Warren did are idiots.  Some idiots want to propel silly issues above issues of substance.

It's not equating, they're both wrong, for different reasons.

If a person will cheat on the person they took an oath to be faithful to, then they'll fuck you over in a heart beat IMO.

I don't think Trump is all that bright either.  And he's not my guy.  I don't see how anyone who is not a leach on society would support Bernie.

Bernie's an honorable guy IMO.  I don't agree with his free bag of goodies, but he's not a POS like so many other politicians.

Or if we're going by things politicians did at around age 18, lying about having bone spurs to evade military service.

I can't believe people are stupid enough to take the Native American bullshit seriously.

She has explained her position on it several times.

You can either believe her and let it go or don't and continue to get manipulated over one of the biggest "mountains out of a molehill" ever.
