Shooting for Top 15 this year!

Well this should tamp down any excitement.

Quote

Unlike some of the billionaires, sheikhs and oligarchs who own rival English clubs, Mr Gao has no intention of spending huge sums on players, pledging to impose financial discipline and ensure the club becomes “self sufficient”. “I am not treating Southampton as a pig to be fattened and sold,” said Mr Gao in a rare interview in Shanghai. “I am treating it as a child. But my children must believe they cannot depend on the boss. I have said to Southampton: ‘I am now your father. But I am putting you on the right track: you need to feed yourself.’”

So, basically an owner who says : no money, no strategy. You are on your own.

and away we go....

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/9287786/southampton-transfer-14m-standard-liege-moussa-djenepo/

Southampton complete first transfer of summer with £14m deal for Standard Liege winger Moussa Djenepo on four-year deal

a young African winger from a lesser league.. hmmm.

I hope he becomes good player, but you know, not that good.

Ings was invisible against Burnley the week before. Hasenhüttl was maybe sending a message.

We can't get our starting XI or formation sorted out.

we have been playing a 3-5-2 (5-3-2) for awhile now and it is just not working. Instead of playing 3 shitty CBs, let's just play 2 shitty CBs. I am no genius, but that is one less shitty player on the field.

I know Hasenhüttl is trying to provide cover for the CB position, hoping three can do the job that for most teams 2 can do, but this is ridiculous

We still leak goals, while sacrificing a more offensive position player on the pitch. time to change things up (2 games in!).

Southampton: Lemina agrees to personal terms with Monaco

https://saintsmarching.com/2019/08/21/southampton-lemina-agrees-personal-terms-monaco/

He/His agent was angling for a move to a Top 6 PL club during the PL window, but there was no interest. ha!

Talented player, but never seemed like his heart was in it. Was time to go.

For dyed in the wool Southampton supporters this is a huge deal. Southampton drew Pompey away in the 3rd round of the League Cup. South Coast derby is ON!!!.

Haven't played each other since 2012 when both were in the Championship. They first played each other in 1899.

Apparently, the Mario Lemina deal with Monaco fell apart, so he is still a Saint (for now).

However, tons of expensive players, who didnt pan out, are out on loan. Several were slated to be nailed on starters *, just a year or two ago.

*GK Forster to Celtic

*ST Carrillo to Leganés

*MF Elyounoussi to Celtic

*CB Hoedt to Royal Antwerp

MF Sims to New York Red Bulls

...... not to mention we sold :

MF Clasie to AZ Alkmaar

ST Austin to West Brom

LB Targett to Fulham

Having so many players out on loan is not usual for Southampton. A testament to the bad player recruitment/transfers we have had the last two years.

Isn’t Sims an academy player?

i will also add, the Board made some disastrous decisions in 2017/2018 in which the club still have not recovered.

With the VVD money $96.50m they purchased...

70 million total and paid down debt with the remaining $26 million.

Carrillo, Lemina, and Hoedt are now persona no grata and have been out put on loan. Bednarek is a part time player.

Not to mention hiring a shit manager that they sacked 30 matches in to the season.

Southhampton handling Portsmouth in the south coast derby...

this match for Southampton supporters was the equivalent of Texas playing Aggy at Kyle Field on opening weekend 2020.

i dont have that personal history, so i am not as jazzed, but any win is a good win, so i am happy.

Would like to see it translate to wins against fellow mid-table clubs in the PL. i am realistic in not expecting to get points in matches against Top 6 clubs.

Know one saints fan so i knew this was a big rivalry game....even though portsmouth is down a few leagues

Always nice to beat a rival

The way watford and wolves are going i dont think you'll have to worry about relegation but it is a longway to go. Like you said tough schedule coming plus most of the teams you played already are in the top half currently

Will definitely need the full 3 against peers in 14-20th place.

really poor effort on Saturday.

Southampton is not a very good team. Fortunately,  I think there are three other worse teams in the League.

Looking at 15th place on 42 points.

i may need to revise this prediction. Southampton is in TROUBLE.

they didn't just lose to Chelsea, they looked terrible doing so. Difficult to find any bright spots.

Stats show the lowest rated five Premier League players in every position so far this season

Southampton making an excellent showing defensively....

Gunn - 3rd worst GK in the league

Yan Valery - 5th worst RB in the league

Yoshida - 2nd worse CB in the league

Bertrand - worst LB in the league

Hojbjerg - 5th worst central midfielder in the league

(and this was before Friday's debacle)

Watford got screwed. Southampton absolutely did not deserve 3 points, Handball on Djenepo on the lead up to the Saints’ first goal. Where was VAR on that?

Saints have the worst CBs in the league.

Both these teams go down IMO. That game was a miserable watch.

it's been a very good holiday match season for Saints.

10 points from 12.

currently in 11th place.

Has totally turned the season around.

Winning against Spurs was extremely important, as the next two matches are against Leicester and Liverpool. (we are gonna get 0 points from that)

dropped down to 13th place. the top 10 was fun for awhile.

We looked AWFUL against Liverpool, but then again we loaned out our starting RB so we could squeeze £5m out of his expiring contract. (JWProwse played RB, which i have never seen him play!)

I guess £5m is not chump change for a club like Southampton. It is what it is.

Spurs in the FA Cup replay tomorrow. Then..

a good 5 match spell in league play with..

Burnley (h)

Villa (h)

West Ham (a)

Newcastle (h)

Norwich (a)
