The previous rule was a NPOY award triggered it. They amended the rules in 08 to allow for athletes who played before those awards existed (like baseball and football)

About fucking time. What a terrible way to handle the best athlete perspectively in their sport ever. More dominant than Vince or Clemens or Bobby or (slight reach) jordan in her sport.

I'll never be a fan of retiring numbers for college sports for a number of reasons but the name and jersey/number honored forever should absolutely be done. Good for her and all of us fans. She made Clark quite a bit of cash.

Nice opportunity for those with young fans in the family.

Didn’t expect to be that high but good to see we have some serious expectations this year

I did. We really only lost Bollinger from last year where we were a game from the WCWS (roughly 9-10th) and we get Ellsworth and Shea back from injury and brought in Sullivan.  It’s really going to depend on Day, Green or Adams handling the #3 spot in the rotation competently.

Email.    Anyone familiar if the construction affects parking on the streets adjacent to McCombs  ?      Thanks !

This season we will debut our new videoboard and we're excited to share this with you.

Outfield bleachers will be available later in the season for additional seating for high demand games.

If you purchased a season parking pass, your pass is good for the surrounding surface lots, in addition to the East Campus Garage.

Construction Changes and Updates

Due to construction, dugouts for the teams have been switched. We anticipate this being the case only for this season.

Gate 1 will be closed all season. The only entrance to the stadium this year will be along the first base ramp.

Due to construction around the stadium, consider arriving earlier due to additional road congestion.

Excerpt from a lengthy article.

Fans should notice a few changes around McCombs Field when Texas opens its softball season on Thursday.

The installation of a new 24-by-42 feet wide videoboard has been completed. The ongoing construction of the program’s player development facility will cause some chaos and confusion, and because of the construction, the Longhorns will use the first-base dugout and share a bullpen this season.

On the field, star pitcher Miranda Elish will wear a mask after a “freak accident” cut short her junior season. There are five new freshmen on the roster, a new hitting coach and UCLA transfer Colleen Sullivan, who plays catcher and first base. Former catcher Mary Iakopo, who caught every pitch last season, will start at third base when Texas opens against Wichita State on Thursday in the Texas Classic.

What's the weather like down there? Does it look like they will still play tomorrow?

Snowed last night, but up to 55 or so today, so they're playing.

On another note, we play Maryland at home on opening day.  What could go wrong?

yeah, both Miranda and Taylor looking rusty.

That is a concern when you change catchers.  Ellsworth not accustomed to game time action with Elish. May be also affecting Elish.    Iakopo has caught Elish for most, if not all, of her career if not mistaken.

@bschool prof -- do you recall who caught the most during the Fall ?   Was Ellsworth still recovering from injury.   I know Sullivan caught some,  correct  ?

I only went to one game and Sullivan was behind the plate.
