I agree that there are plenty of people who just pull the lever every 4 years then completely check out of politics. And, yes, you can be completely oblivious and still be decent to those around you (but only those around you). No argument there. But you described a meme sharing January 6th denier. They're shit people, and if they can't even keep their offensive, conspiratorial rhetoric down in public, what do you think is really rattling around in their heads? The only "decent" Trump voters left--and I have a few among friends and family that are good, normal people--choose to be willfully ignorant and woefully misinformed, usually with the rationale that they're above politics and everyone in Washington is all the same anyway. And they're still pretending it's 2017. "The media is out to get him. I don't like the guy, but some of his policies have been pretty good." And those "policies" usually boil down to some combination of these 4 idea: 1) Taxes are dumb, and I don't want to pay them. 2) I like guns. 3) Well, I'm Christian, so I vote Republican. 4) Did you hear what they're saying/doing/allowing/forcing in California? [insert socialism, homelessness, crime, transexual, immigration, taxes again, etc. grievance] So at what level of selfishness and chosen ignorance to the plight of others do you stop being decent? And, in my case, these are people who have the means to not be so selfish.
