  1. I went to search with a group on Friday. If you have ever been to Hunt, you won’t recognize it. Looks like it was clear cut. Standing near the river and looking at the debris line was daunting. So much water. Hard to really understand it without seeing. I thought it was strange that I encountered no dead animals other than fish. Maybe they have been removed but still strange. I mostly was searching the high water line. Can’t tell you the amount of Mystic t shirts and shorts that were on the ground in my am search area. As a father who sent two girls to camp in the area it was rough because I recognized what a lot of the things I came across were. Hard to see. Heartbreaking. &nbsp If you have been keeping up with the numbers you will know that the bodies found have been slow the past few days. I did not come across anything. No smells other than the stench of silt which is everywhere. Its not just a little. It’s everywhere and deep. The main search tool seemed to be excavators digging up the silt on the banks and people lined up on the side of it looking underneath what was dug up and the watching as the bucket was sifted. Other excavators are moving trees and brush piles while spotters look in the area beneath. This is going on all up and down the bank. There are lots of non profit organizations in Hunt running this machinery and either supervising volunteers or their own people doing the spotting. Every person who told me what to do, handed me a water, food, or a cold towel was with a non profit. No FEMA or any other official types that I saw. I wonder how long this will be going on and Abbotts claim that they aren’t leaving until all missing are accounted for seems unrealistic. I did come across some game wardens walking around the water line trying to detect decomposition odors. One issue with this is that you have to till up or poke the silt wi th a stick to get oxygen to potentially what might be underneath it in order to detect a smell. The scope of this flood is just massive. Being there made it feels enormous. Finding everyone who is missing just seems very difficult. I saw no National Guard. Nowhere. No military vehicles, no base camps, nothing. Not saying they aren’t there but I didn’t see them. In fact outside of the game wardens , I had the impression that it’s just locals and the non profits. I’m assuming that’s not the case but I covered a lot of ground and that’s all I saw. Met people from all over the country. It is really bad down there. I’m just not sure what will happen over the long haul.

  3. What’s worst is the head of the fucking federal disaster team shows up 9 days after the deadliest flood in US history looking like an extra in a Sopranos knockoff. It’s an insult to not only the victims and their families but to every American. This asshole didn’t know there is such a thing as β€œhurricane season.” As someone who grew up in southeast Texas and still has friends and family there, as well as friends and family in flood alley, I am beyond pissed about this fuckstick’s very existence. If you can’t see that you’re the terrible shell of human asshole *his showing up 8 days late is a current event, newsworthy, and has a Texas Slant *Elvis being a dickhole with a moronic take is a known fact, and while not news to anyone, bears mention

  4. Good grief, I don't miss this fucking asshole and his schtick one bit. His little numerology games were such bullshit, and his time covering UT recruiting coincides with the worst period in Texas football's modern history. Fuck Higdon, fuck his shitty coverage, and fuck Charlie Strong.

  5. Gotta love the β€˜regulations bad, free market good’ exuberance from the GOP…it trickles down into every corner under the mistaken belief it makes things cheaper and encourages innovation. No, dumbasses…regulations are usually there to protect you the individual/small business and often written in blood. Removing them are in the interests of large, faceless corporate behemoths who want to poison your water, reject your healthcare claims, deny you coverage, and do shit like have β€˜AI’ companies running nuclear power plants to supply data centers…you want rivers that catch on fire again, Cleveland? I’ll never understand how people not only vote against their interests, but have been brainwashed to do it every single time. You had grown ass men and women rejecting free funding to better their community’s emergency preparedness for fear of…what exactly? I tell people I would absolutely love to get the fuck out of Texas, but while in Michigan I saw a dozen MAGA/Trump flags on the 30m drive from Sault St Marie to St Ignace and a ~12yo kid staying at The Grand on Mackinack who wore a different MAGA hat everyday…

  7. As of Friday, my employer’s giving campaign stood at $20,000. They are matching up to 100k and counting all donations thru 7/25. if the people of Kerr county knew this money was coming from communist Seattle, and matched by an evil big pharma company, would they still want it? They didn’t want Obama money or Biden money, but now that they’ve been hurt I wonder if their moral superiority has a little more flexibility. But, they won’t know. I’m sure there will be a press release in late July, but they won’t see it. and, my instinct tells me that if Seattle had a cyclonic storm induced flood, the good god-fearing people of Kerr county would laugh and say good riddance. Not all of them, of course, but a fair number.

  11. While this is "fun" (as fun as a sitting POTUS all but admitting he's a pedophile can be) and will certainly have more staying power than the usual Trump crime/cover-up, anyone thinking that this is what breaks MAGA and finally turns the tide against him is crazy. Fox and regime-friendly podcasters are struggling to find their footing at the moment, but give them a couple weeks to figure out their talking points, and everyone will be back on program.

  13. Of Note: As you've probably heard, today a slow-moving front (unusual for July) is teaming with Gulf moisture to form a slow-moving line of heavy rain from NW→SE. Right now northern Hill Country is getting hammered - some parts of San Saba/Lampasas Cos. have gotten over 6" of rain since midnight. This is all moving SE and unfortunately should affect the Kerr/Upper Guadalupe area later this morning/early afternoon. I don't think any floods will be huge/catastrophic (can it be anyway after last week? How much more is "catastrophic?"), but could cause evacs and issues. ATX will also get a good amount of rain out of this it looks like - easily 2" upward and more in some spots until this passes through. Very possible that main streams/creeks (Shoal? Onion?) and low-lying areas could see some flash and/or minor flooding. Be alert today. NWS has had flood watches posted since early Sat. a.m. for this, now a series of flash flood warnings for upper Hill Country, will almost certainly be extended this way (unfortunately) if rain keeps up. It could lessen by the time it hits over ATX but with all the moisture in our ground/air I don't think so. I haven't had time to look at the weather background, but this is a July reminiscent of 2007. The big summer highs have stayed away - it's possible the huge tropical situation we've had the last 2 weeks has and will impact our weather more this summer. The mid-upper air patterns aren't typical for us, but why/how long, if I look through it I might get a better idea. Like I said, although this front is "cool" (i.e. not changing temps much) it's still a front in July, so that's not usual. Two-week outlook calls for rain to stop and July to come back (hot dry) but that was supposed to happen now - and well, it's not at least this weekend, another "slight" rain forecast expanding to "heavy rain". But it happens. Meantime, heed warnings, watches.

  19. The Dems didn't release it for one main reason: the Biden Department of Justice respected norms. To the extent it was an ongoing criminal investigation, in old America you don't release that information. To the extent it was a terminated criminal investigation, in old America you don't release that information until everyone is dead, if then. See, JFK. MAGA therefore brewed it into some giant conspiracy to protect pedo Dems, Trump world bought into it or at least thought they'd curry favor, then they looked at it. Whoops.

  24. I see this kind of post all the time. Like a message board is supposed to be some kind of hive mind. I see it from content creators who depend on engaging with their audience, then blame the audience for demanding contrasting actions on the part of the content creator. I mean, I see it from all segments of the population regarding all sorts of things. There can be a group that thinks Texas should be fiscally responsible in terms of their overall budget, their budget within positions, their budget with current players and upcoming retention --- contrasted with their budget for the acquisition of new talent. And then there can be an opposing segment that so desperately wants the dopamine hit from a talented teenager creating validation and affirmation for their favorite college sports team that they excitedly wish for other people to spend a small fortune to get the kid to say yes. People can hold contrasting opinions. Within the same person, frankly. One of the things that makes people most interesting to me is when they can simultaneously feel strongly in support of two opposing sides of the same position. It happens to me, too. But mostly I think it's a group of people who are very comfortable with spending someone else's money with no real limitations, and then a group of people who hope Texas has a plan they're trying to follow in terms of roster payroll.

  29. I posted in the DT thread about my experience in joining a search team for a couple of days. My CR comment on that is that nearly all of the efforts going on in Hunt right now are being carried out by non profits. Some are religious based, others are ex military. I am positive that a lot of these folks were MAGA. Believe me, there were lots of signs of where these folks came down on things. What I am having difficulty reconciling is that these people were obviously doing good work and I am appreciative of their efforts, but are also supportive of some of the worst people to ever inhabit our government, and who are doing some pretty terrible things. There were several chaplain types walking around supporting those who were doing the work. I give them credit for that. But, one in particular came up to check on me and ended our discussion by asking if I wanted to pray for our leaders and especially our President. Out of respect for the work he was doing, I did not make a big deal of it but it was just hard to reconcile. Like I said, it is extremely admirable what these people are doing and I want to give them credit for that. I just don’t understand how they recognize the suffering of people in one way but not another.

  32. As I am writing this, it is raining again - already 3" in the rain gauge. Hunt/Ingram responders/helpers evacuated, Walmart and HEB closed, everyone asked to stay home. I understand the politics of this, but we ares till finding the dead and frankly, we don't have time to point fingers right now. There are too many people with real needs, black, white, brown. No one gives a damn, we are just trying to fill needs. When you see burly men out searching for the dead and they find a 6 month old baby that has been dead for several days and these men are broken and crying by what they have seen - that is what we care about now. When you have single moms come to our warehouse and need diapers and wipes for their baby and ask to take 5-10 diapers because they know there are others that need - that is what we care about now. By the way, we gave her several boxes of supplies - we have plenty. I see a community that is caring for their own - thousands of people locally, nationally and other countries. The crew at Mercy Chefs told us that they have never see a response like this to a disaster. I thank God for all the help and for the ability to help my fellow west Kerr neighbors. WKH
