  1. Given the amount of time we all spend on here, I think we all might be an Oscar Giles in our professional lives.

  4. Speaking of beatings, this thread has been one lately until page 969 where actual pertinent shit has been posted and discussed. It makes it worth visiting again. Here's hoping some of you stupid fucks can stop filling the thread up with fucking garbage and thus enable the rest of us to track anything lingering regarding the 2019 class.

  7. Interesting. Speaking from, apparently, further down the continuum, I only drank vodka at the end because anything that went in had a chance of coming back out so if I was going to keep it down, it needed to get me as drunk as possible as quickly as possible. And oblivion was my goal, to the degree I had one. I was drinking to lose consciousness, to not be aware of how much of a mess I was making of my life. It was wake up, drink, put HBO on and check work email/surf a bit while drinking, pass out, repeat. If I had a conference call, I would try to time it so I was more or less sober (HA), otherwise I did everything through email so I could stay as drunk as possible as much of the time as possible. I would eat once every five days or so. I was pretty much like an animal that knows it's dying and holes up somewhere quiet to wait for it. Quite a life I carved out for myself. At least I wasn't one of those freaks that drank isopropyl. Losers. I remember the good times of beer drinking from my younger days, but those became obviously inaccessible to me a long time ago. I knew anytime I picked up a drink from 2015 on, the goal was oblivion and the result was either that or death. The only nice thing about that time is, in what little memory I have of it, it feels like it happened to someone else. Today I get a nine month chip from my home group.

  9. Our society is fucked up because certain people in control of a certain party have been consistently lying and fooling people for going on 40 years now in order to enrich itself and set up barriers to losing its power. Plenty of dems have played along too, of course thanks to money and greed, just not nearly to the extent of the GOP. The middle class has been squeezed because that’s what certain people wanted to happen. I remember a time before there were “red” states and “blue” states and we didn’t identify ourselves as essentially sworn enemies, either “crips” or “bloods.” It wasn’t even all that long ago. Do you think all of that terminology just came along by accident? The rise of Fox News, right wing radio, elimination of the fairness doctrine, Citizens United. All of that just naturally and organically evolved? The Russians are only a part of it. They saw an opportunity with Trump and took full advantage of it. But it was the system set up by the GOP that allowed it to even be possible. The owners of the GOP didn’t want trump, but once the base had made an overwhelming decision to support trump they adapted and manipulated trump just as sure as the Russians did. If Jeb gets elected like the plan contemplated the tax cut scam still gets passed and Gorsuch and Cavanugh are still on the Supreme Court. The only difference is all the bullshit crap we have to deal with since a child is the president. Yes we need to deal with trump and the Russians and get that cancer out. But beyond that, we need to recognize and deal with the fact that the GOP has been utterly corrupt for quite some time now, and probably needs to be completely eliminated with a new party breaking away from it and taking over the new opposition to the dems.

  11. Great stuff on here, as always. Not looking for fanfare or anything, just felt good and felt like reporting 6 months yesterday. Never tried this before, and still some fear around what's next, around the fleeting thoughts of "well, maybe when the kids are out of college, I can drink right," and other insanity that still persists. Wife and I are doing better, finances are a mess from my f ups, but ... getting more clear, and I've made amends to my two older kids in a way that they both could understand in as rigorously honest a way as possible. Spiritual progress is seeping into other areas of life, and that is something for which I have much gratitude, something that never would have worked in the past ... "well, that's f'd up, you did that wrong, you are not living up to MY expectations," etc. Relationships are becoming stronger, but so are feelings - something I would not allow myself to feel for a long, long time. It's strange to me and also something I know I cannot control, but something that I don't know how to "direct," if you will. A big, jumbled mess of figuring out who God made me to be, but not figuring it out, because I can't even know! I do know I can't control it, and letting go of that has been the most freeing part of it all. Lots of learning and hopefully growing ahead; thankful for sobriety today. Thanks to all for your continued shares and advice. It means the world to this guy, for sure. Charlie D

  12. Last Sunday Ms CL told me she wanted to go to our farm and clean out around her vegetable garden, could I please get the weedeater out and make sure it has gas and is runs? I thought it was a dumb idea and had other stuff to do but she was very determined and clearly willing to turn it into a bigger fight if I didn't comply. ("Goddamit all you do on the weekend is go to the gun club and baseball practice and when you do work you are messing with stuff that doesn't need to be done, so I'll just do this myself....") So I drive out there and mess around with it for about 10 minutes and get it running, then put it down on the concrete and leave it for her and text her a picture to show it's ready: Here is a picture of the weedeater from yesterday, Sunday, a week later:

  16. He's one of the best coaches on their staff. Just see what Trayveon Williams did this year. FSU always had good RBs too. There's a reason Graham was one of the few coaches Fisher brought with him from FSU. He also has a good recruiting rep. Losing both Graham and Brewster would be significant blows.

  19. While all y'all Limousine Liberals and Reactionary Big-Truck Scared-of-Everythings were staring at the border when not whacking it to phone porn, I, RDCanecutter, caught one of the caravan's advance scouts prowling far past the Rio Grande in the disputed lands between the Choctaw, Muskogee, and Cherokee, or, as I like to call it, Birmingham. He was mailing a package (probably plans of our trench works) and kept nodding "yes" to every question of whether he wanted to pay out the nose for next-day service. I bejabbered him in castellano, and as i suspected, he didn't give a damn whether it got there next day or not. Saved dude 38 dollars. My new friend is from Quetzaltenango Guatemala, and when we US Citizens are all being led up the pyramid steps to slaughter, I, RDCanecutter, will be spared. The rest of you will not.

  22. They are the best team in the Big XII and have been for a while and have won A LOT of football games over the past 10 years. Their RBs have produced big numbers in college and been developed and drafted. They have a big Sooner fan bases/recruiting bases in SoCal and DFW - both rich with RB talent. Their current RB coach is a fucking closer (Boulware is a Horn and a total dick, but he closes). Drayton is a mirage.

  25. My first thought after seeing the DPS caravan was a quote from the movie Geronimo. "Must be Texans... lowest form of white man there is." I love the state of Texas but we do a lot of dumb shit. We are the home of aggy after all. Personally, I write that off as East Texas nonsense but then we pull something like this off and I question the sanity of our entire state.

  26. It’s just children in cages! It’s just infringement on a woman’s right to choose. It’s just a couple of racial slurs! It’s just shouting about illegal immigrants yet employing them in large numbers at my properties! It’s just ignoring the law and a murdered journalist! It’s just a two hour speech full of lies! JUST LOOSEN UP AND SMILE!! (And that’s just the shit from last week.) I hope he loosens up his butthole and enjoys it when he’s rotting in prison. Fucking dick. Nothing makes me madder than this particular line of gaslighting. And it’s used against women with strong opinions A LOT. “You’re too serious and angry. Loosen up!” Fuck off, fuckface. I’ll be pissed if I wanna be pissed and the garbage pile that is this administration is something definitely worth getting pissed over. Loosen up. Seriously, RAGE.

  31. I spent several years as part of a house church of about 20-30 people. It’s not perfect, but I think it’s the best way to have a church when it’s done right. We tried to model ourselves off of the New Testament church. There was no pastor, so whoever had something to share or preach was free to do so. We’d meet to sing, pray, and listen to whoever wanted to share. By the way, this is the New Testament model for a church meeting. The preaching was diverse as were the doctrines, although we would have been vaguely categorized as evangelical. On any specific issue, there’d be quite a bit of diversity of thought, although we all tended towards holding the Bible as the authority, to the best of each of our understanding. While there was no pastor, there a few that operated in a leadership role, although there was nothing very formal about the arrangement. It was more of a mutual understanding based on character. Think of it as New Testament church elders. If someone in the church was in need, we’d help in an appropriate way (sometimes money or a meal or a place to stay, sometimes a job, sometimes a kick in the pants). We took up a regular offering and would use our money to help others outside the church as well. It was all normal church stuff without someone taking advantage of you. We also all developed much stronger relationships with our fellow church members and a greater sense of personal agency about our faith. It wasn’t an environment conducive to passivity. It isn’t a perfect system. You need enough people thinking critically to keep it from going off the rails or turning into a cult. In certain environments, the most fundamentalist person wins over as having the most faith. You need people pushing against that kind of thinking. You also need enough people who aren’t interested in giving over authority to a single person. Also since the preaching time was an open forum, some meetings went pretty long, but since we were all good friends it wasn’t that big of a deal. It’s been years since our house church fizzled out as everyone moved all over the world. I still haven’t found that sense of community in a church since then.
