  1. Holy shit some of these takes are hilarious. We have like 8-9 realistic targets on the board right now and several of them already have decision dates set (Baxter, Hale), recently took visits to Texas (Hill, Gullette) or have recruitments that are stretching out til January (Hicks). It’s a damn miracle Texas is still even in the Hill recruitment considering where they stood 3 or 4 months ago. It’s possible to recruit during the dates outside of a pool party for those unaware. We had fucking Markis Deal, Vasek and Matthews on campus, all of whom we would take a commitment from tomorrow in addition to a pretty good contingency plan in Collins, which we know people in this thread love to bitch about how Texas “never has contingency plans”. I don’t think Texas needs to apologize for having the majority of their class already wrapped up, but it sounds like some of you would have preferred a few of the current guys COMMITTED still be uncommitted just so the visit list looked cooler. Sorry the staff put in the work the last two months to where they didn’t have to put all their eggs in a 1 day unofficial visit basket. And edge recruiting, guess what? That is one of the best positions to evaluate senior film on. Dudes like Ethan Burke who discover football late or guys who grow 3 inches and add 30 pounds heading into their season senior are pretty damn common. It’s 5 months til signing day and when you only have 1 glaring need left on the board with that amount of time, you get to devote extra resources. Thinking our staff just decided last minute to throw a party and send out a couple of save the dates last week is one of the most hilarious narratives I’ve ever seen. I assume I’ll see most of those people in the A&M thread this weekend wishing they were Aggie fans.

  2. We beat LSU for Tapp. Finkley had a commitable offer from Bama. We flipped Burke from Michigan. We beat OU for Brown. It wasn't some collection of JAGs.

  6. “Our recruiting event which was planned well over a month in advance and specifically scheduled for a Thursday for various reasons was thrown together haphazardly AND GUYS WHAT IS HAPPENING WE ARE ARE FAAAAAAAILING!” isnt a take I expected to see today, but here we fucking are…watching a guy with 8+ years of higher education and a medical degree who’s been following recruiting for years just throwing himself into a pool of hot sewage, scrubbing under his arms, doing the backstroke, and casually spitting liquid into the air with total aplomb. Fuck.

  7. I honestly don’t know how some of you survive as adults when you shit your pants at the first sign of any adversity. We weren’t going to land every single player we wanted, championship teams don’t even do that, much less 5-7 ones.

  9. If you have a good counter for $1.5million for one player and can pony up, let us know. Or anyone else. Otherwise, punt. They doubled what anyone was thinking and I’d heard from their end that they might. That’s crazy stupid shit.

  13. You know this but the broader point is this: one could reasonably hold a view that there should be a balancing of rights, and by that I mean that at some stage there should be a consideration of society's interest in fetal life vs. the mother's rights. But that is gone because SCOTUS said the mother has NO rights in this area. None. No right to privacy, or medical care, or bodily autonomy -- only what the state deigns to confer. So now, there is no balancing in red states. So it's not only that that the rights of a fetus are equal to those of the mother. Which is outrageous enough. These extreme laws dictate that the fetus's rights, whether its life is even viable or not, are SUPERIOR to the human who is independently breathing, walking, thinking, whose body is used to sustain said fetus, and who is a citizen or resident who presumably is allowed legal protections against unreasonable search and seizure, and all that other good constitutional stuff. But if a fetus or embryo exists, the carrier is excluded from making any decisions impacting her very life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness based on the arbitrary state borders in which she lives. Anyone who isn't screaming against this insanity is complicit.

  15. Y’all are correct. So what you’re wanting is for boosters with no background or appetite historically for buying recruits to start buying recruits because the dinosaur down the road still has a few targets of opportunity? That’s a panicked fantasy. And also, throwing out something that is working because of one absurd scenario seems pretty smart.

  18. Should Burke turn out to be a player, y'all can thank Kai Locksley's idiot father for the gift. On Burke's lacrosse OV to Maryland (current Nat'l Champs), they sat down w/ Mike Locksley to see about playing football as well, and he refused to offer a ship. That's a HC w/ a career record of 15-49 coming off of his first winning season ever at 7-6, refusing to offer a scholarship to a DE who would have been the #2 ranked recruit in their class, at a school where lacrosse is the #1 sport.

  22. Russia going to be even more pissed off at us than usual (usual = since Feb 24 Special Military Operation). US unsealed an indictment in Florida dealing with somebody trying to fuck around with our social media, among other things. If you want to discuss the political groups, there's a CR thread, I was just pointing out that we've indicted a Russian here in the US for directly fucking around and finding out.

  24. Hill is the 4th ranked player in the state on 247 and the 9th ranked player in the state on On3. He is a damn good player but S’Maje Burrell had just as good, if not better junior tape than Hill. Only difference is Hill has been on recruiting radars for 3 years now. Buddy of mine who coaches in the district he plays in said he honestly flashed more at RB than he did at LB when they played Denton Ryan. He is not an irreplaceable piece in this class. I certainly would prefer to have him in the class, but we have a decent recruiting floor set at that position. If we find one more good one it will still be the best LB haul we’ve had in a decade from both a quality and quantity standpoint.

  25. It's rigged in the favor of Texas. We are the flagship school with a huge alumni base in the 9th largest economy in the world. Quit being a crying bitch over losing 1 player after going 5-7.

  27. Hill is another great example of why caring a lot less about recruiting and college football in general may be a decent life strategy. All of the buying of players, legally or illegally, just means the whole system is pretty rigged. There’s only so much satisfaction or dissatisfaction one can get from a rigged situation. Buying wins has been around forever, but it’s now reached the Jump the Shark stage with the behavior of the rubes of college station.

  30. They are also ignoring the extreme brutality that Russia is wielding against Ukrainians in occupied territory. Ukraine "folding" means millions more people raped, castrated, kidnapped and murdered. Any one that suggests Ukraine willingly subject themselves to this is an agent, idiot, and/or vile person. Few things in this world boil down cleanly to right vs wrong, good vs evil. This is one of them. As long as the Ukrainians want to fight back, we should keep arming them.

  34. Too many "ifs" in there. The Big 12 was doomed from the beginning. We're fundamentally very different. People from Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri have this weird chip on their shoulder about being overlooked (I get it, the Coastal elites mentioning flyover country is annoying AF) I know they'll never admit it but Nebraska was really the Benedict Arnold of the Big 12 from the beginning. 1. They had the attitude "we saved the SWC schools and let them going our conference". This was not the case, the Big 12 was a brand new conference. 2. Big Red was rolling in the 90's while Oklahoma and Texas were wandering the desert. Nebraska knew they needed to keep this advantage and pushed unequal revenue sharing hard. 3. Texas has always had the mission of being a world class University with it sights set in the UC System and the ivy's. Going back to what I referenced earlier about that flyover state attitude, Nebraska's identity and pride is tied to football. Texas helped raise the academic profile of the entire conference by getting rid of Prop 48 players but this severely pissed of Nebraska and Tom Osborne. 4. The lower level schools and the penis envy created an atmosphere of toxic resentment from all parties involved. Voting blocks, coaches poll votes, negative recruiting, etc. It showed Texas they need to get TF away from all the little brothers who only care about "ruining Texas" TLDR: Nebraska and their fragile ego fractured the conference from the get go.
