  1. He won't but he should. Bijan forced the most missed tackles in all of P5 football. Meanwhile we all saw how Michigan's running game didn't miss a beat against Ohio State with Corum out. They do this bullshit all the time, btw. In 2010, Mark Ingram was benched in the Iron Bowl against Auburn and Alabama's offense actually improved when Trent Richardson took over. Ingram still won the Heisman anyway. How do you even justify that bullshit. And don't give me the "McCoy lost the Heisman against Nebraska" crap. Jason White shat all over the field against K-State in the Big 12 title game, led his team to a humiliating 7-35 beatdown, and still won the Heisman anyway. They do this shit all the time and it's infuriating.

  2. Like NIL or not, it is saving Texas’ ass. With multiple other schools having built sophisticated cheating systems over the last several years, including A&M, Georgia, Alabama, Clemson, Ohio St, etc. the program was slowly declining to the point of becoming irrelevant, possibly forever. NIL puts Texas back in the game, at least for now.

  4. Was never a big Card fan until I saw him play with a fucked up ankle. I'm not saying the guy Is the best choice skill or talent wise, but DAMN, some of the crucial runs he made while barely able to walk were very gutsy. Regardless of what he does, or where he goes, he damned sure has my respect and best wishes.

  15. Max Duggan is Big 12 OPoY over Bijan. Felix Anudike-Uzomah is Big 12 DPoY over Jaylan Ford. This is exactly the kind of bullshit I'm talking about. Neither of them will sniff an All-America selection but that doesn't matter to the coaches. They just didn't want any Texas players getting awards.

  29. Here we go, my favorite week of the HSFB season, because winning region is a big deal! Nine district rematches -- see if you notice a recurring theme below... REGIONAL FINALS SCHEDULE Class 6A Division I Region I Prosper (12-1) vs. Lewisville (12-1), 2 p.m. Saturday at McKinney’s McKinney ISD Stadium I picked Prosper to win this 4 weeks ago – the reasons haven’t changed. This is the Eagles’ 4th straight trip to this game, and there’s no Guyer to take them out this season. But Lewisville has played great. Their only loss was to HP on 9/2, and they play D-and-running-game like a fine violin – the D has allowed only 3 total points the last two games. Flip a coin. Cool note: Lewisville’s head coach was the QB when the Farmers won state (and their last regional title) in 1996. Region II Duncanville (12-0) vs. Spring Westfield (12-1), 3pm Saturday at Georgetown D’ville has won region 4 consecutive years. They have future college stars all over the roster, but especially on D. They also do the D-and-running-game thing really well, with 1400+ on the ground from 4-star RB Caden Durham and only 114 points allowed all season. They held a really good Woodlands team to 106 total yards and forced 4 turnovers the week after the Highlanders hung 62 points on Klein Cain. Westfield struggled to a 10-7 win over Hachie, and that kind of performance isn’t going to give them a chance. Region III Galena Park North Shore (13-0) vs. Humble Atascocita (11-2), 7 p.m. Friday at New Caney’s Randall Reed Stadium District rematch. NS rallied from 13-3 down to win the district game 16-13 on a 67y TD pass in the 4th quarter. ‘Cita outplayed them that game, and they’re capable of beating them – they seriously have one of the biggest teams in the state. NS has beaten AHS 5 consecutive, including twice last season, the 2nd 44-20 in this game. But NS has looked mortal lately and the whole playing-a-WR-at-QB thing has to catch up with them at some point, right? But the NS defense, which posted 10 sacks last week, doesn’t look ready to let them down. I'm saying that I want to pick an upset here, but I don't have the cajones. Region IV San Antonio Brennan (12-1) vs. Austin Westlake (13-0), 2 p.m. Saturday at San Antonio’s Alamodome Sheeeeyit. I know about Westlake’s injuries, but it feels like Brennan shot their wad last week in a huge emotional win over LT. Brennan QB Ashton Dubose will need to have the game of his life. But mighty mite RB Jack Kayser and most of the Chap D is healthy, and that will be enough. Class 6A Division II Region I Denton Guyer (13-0) vs. Southlake Carroll (13-0), 2 p.m. Saturday at Justin’s Northwest ISD Stadium SLC easily could have lost to McKinney last week, except RB Owen Allen, who seems like he has played varsity for 10 years, rescued them with 220+ yards. Allen is 23 yards short of 2K and has 35 TDs this season. Guyer’s defense has struggled the past two weeks, allowing 83 total points. Granted, that was against HP and Byron Nelson, and the offense scored 122, so I’m not worried about that. Guyer big in this one. Region II DeSoto (11-2) vs. Killeen Harker Heights (12-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Baylor’s McLane Stadium HH has flown under the radar this year, losing only a 28-27 game to Permian in Sept. This is the farthest a HH team has ever gone, and they had their season ended by Desoto 65-28 in 2021. They did hang 63 on Dekaney last week behind their UH-bound RB, but the 35 allowed worries me that they won’t be able to contain Johntay Cook, who has 358y receiving in the last 3 playoff games. I think people have slept on Desoto because they’re clearly not as good as Duncanville this season, but they’re still really damn good. Region III Katy (13-0) vs. Houston C.E. King (9-4), 7 p.m. Friday at Houston’s NRG Stadium King’s good, but Katy’s closest game since September was 35-7 last week. I think King keeps it within 28, but that won’t get them anything. Region IV Austin Vandegrift (12-1) vs. Dripping Springs (12-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Park’s Gupton Stadium Rematch of one of the best games of the regular season, a week 0 walkoff FG win for Dripping (and Vandy’s only loss). I picked Vandy to win the region 4 weeks ago, but that was because I couldn’t imagine DS having so much success in their first 6A season, but that’s a little easier to imagine after watching the Drips just dismantle Harlingen and seeing how Vandy struggled with Harlan. This will be a GREAT game, and I think DS keeps rolling. Class 5A Division I Region I Burleson Centennial (12-1) vs. Aledo (11-2), 2 p.m. Saturday at Frisco’s Ford Center District rematch. Aledo jumped all over BC in a 64-21 rout the first time. BC doesn’t like to throw the ball, and that was death when they fell behind in the first matchup. Nothing much has changed, so expect another Aledo win, though probably closer this time. Despite what people always say, it’s not that difficult to beat a team twice as long as you have a really good team. Region II Mansfield Timberview (13-0) vs. Longview (13-0), 7 p.m. Friday at Mesquite’s Memorial Stadium #1 vs #2 in the state. Longview is seemingly without weakness – they have a D that has allowed 116 points all season, a 4-star RB in Taylor Tatum, and a game-manager QB who can distribute to a speedy WR crew. Timberview is one of the highest-scoring teams in the state, with 706 total points, but they’ve struggled in the playoffs, averaging only 32 ppg. They also needed a 2-pt stand to avoid blowing a 21-0 lead last week. Lobos >> Wolves. Region III College Station (11-2) vs. Smithson Valley (12-1), 2 p.m. Saturday at Pflugerville’s The Pfield CS has had an amazing season, all considered. In the offseason, they lost a ton of starters to graduation, and their head coach. Then they lost their all-state RB to a knee in preseason practice. And last week, they played their best game of the season (and avenged one of their losses), stomping Georgetown 52-28 behind 347y rushing. SV has shut down speedy teams from Manvel and Fulshear the past two weeks, but I don’t think the Rangers have the type of speed on offense to get it done. I’ll take CS in an upset. Region IV Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial (11-2) vs. PSJA North (13-0), 6 p.m. Saturday at Corpus Christi’s Buccaneer Stadium Vets has now put itself in the conversation with Calallen for best program in the Coastal Bend. But their D does not have the size to stop Ale Aparicio and the Fighting Alphabets. The Alphabets also have a stud defense that has allowed only 122 points all season and shut down Brownsville Vets running game last week (except for one long run). Class 5A Division II Region I Argyle vs. Abilene Wylie, 7:00 p.m. Friday at Tarleton State’s Memorial Stadium AW started the season 2-3, but has won 8 straight. But they struggled with Canutillo, needing a 2nd half rally to win 21-18. Argyle is still Argyle in their first 5A season, and they shouldn’t have much trouble in this one. Region II South Oak Cliff vs. Melissa, 7:30 p.m. Friday at Choctaw Stadium Melissa lost its first two games to Argyle and China Spring, but has gotten on a roll since. SOC lost their first three games, and has been downright frightening in the playoffs with near misses. At times last week, it looked like they were flat-out trying to lose, but managed to beat Midlo Heritage in OT, thanks to some help by MH. Melissa has a QB with 3400+ yards and 44 TDs, but SOC has about 6 D1 recruits in just their secondary. I think it will be close, but I lean towards the Cards knocking off the defending state champs. Region III Fort Bend Marshall (12-1) vs. Port Neches-Groves (11-2), 7 p.m. Friday at Galena Park ISD Stadium District rematch, won by Marshall 35-14 in Sept. The Marshall Buffs are just flat out better, with a D that has allowed only 94 points all season, including 18 last week to a Lake Creek team that was one of the highest-scoring teams in the state. This one won’t be close, because despite what people always say, it’s not that difficult to beat a team twice as long as you have a really good team. Region IV Liberty Hill (12-1) vs. Corpus Christi Flour Bluff (10-3), Saturday, SA Farris LH won the region last week with its win over Alamo Heights. FB is in the region final for the 4th year in a row, but LH is just too tough. Expect a 70-42 type of game. Class 4A Division I Region I Wichita Falls (9-4) vs. Decatur (10-3), 7 p.m. Friday at Denton’s Collins Stadium District rematch, won by Decatur 31-27 OT. This bracket was wide open to start the playoffs, and I think I slept on Decatur, who started the season 0-3 (losses to Anna, S’ville, and Rider). Old High’s resume didn’t have anything special on it until they pasted Brownwood 41-19 last week. But Decatur has the coaching edge and the defensive edge, as their D held Canyon Randall to 14 total yards last week. Eagles over Coyotes, because despite what people always say, it’s not that difficult to beat a team twice as long as you have a really good team. Region II China Spring (12-1) vs. Anna (13-0), 7:30 p.m. Friday at Fort Worth’s Crowley ISD Stadium Man, Anna has had one of the toughest playoff roads in the state so far, having beaten Stephenville and Celina in consecutive weeks. And now they get the defending champs. Anna’s star is QB Evan Bullock (LaTech commit), but he’s countered by junior Cash McCollum, who won a region championship starting as a soph at Wimberley last year. The Coyotes have beaten everyone so far, but the Cougars are a different level. Expect a 45-38 type game. Region III Tyler Chapel Hill (11-2) vs. Kilgore (10-3), 7 p.m. Friday at Tyler’s Rose Stadium District rematch, TCH won 32-20 on 11/3. TCH trailed 17-0 at half and 23-14 in the 4th last week, but rallied to beat Lumberton 35-23. Both teams started the season 0-2. Kilgore RB Isaiah Ross has 6 200+ yard rushing games this season and 2345 yards total. TCH has won the last two matchups, including 41-35 OT in the playoffs last season. That team was led by two freshmen who are now sophs – QB Demetrious Brisbon and RB Rickey Stewart. Those guys should get it done again. Region IV Boerne (13-0) vs. Corpus Christi Calallen (13-0), 7:30 p.m. Friday at San Antonio’s Alamo Stadium A great matchup that has been on the horizon all season is finally here. Boerne has a well-balanced offense led by soph QB Jaxon Baize and a D that has allowed only 34 points in the playoffs and held PL Calhoun to only 145 yards last week. Calallen has struggled to put away opponents the last two weeks. I haven’t seen the total numbers, but it seems like the Wildcats throw the ball more than they did under Danaher. That’s a good thing, but it’s also partly a reaction to star RB Epi Hinojosa blowing out his knee earlier in the season. I don’t think Calallen is playing their best ball right now and it will cost them Friday. Class 4A Division II Region I Monahans (10-3) vs. Glen Rose (12-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Sweetwater’s Mustang Bowl I’ve been on GR since about week 2 and am not getting off now. Monahans started the season 0-3 but has been nails since. GR spanked a very talented Hirschi team 45-20 last week and I’d expect a similar result this week. Region II Texarkana Pleasant Grove (11-2) vs. Carthage (13-0), 7 p.m. Friday at Marshall’s Maverick Stadium This would have been a helluva matchup 5 years ago when TPG was getting the type of players who should be at 6A schools. They’re good again this year, losing only to Gilmer and a Shreveport team, but Carthage has only lost twice since 2017, so you’d have to be an idiot to pick TPG. Region III Silsbee (13-0) vs. Cuero (12-1), 1:30 p.m. Friday at Houston’s NRG Stadium Silsbee has won R3 twice in the last 4 years, but hasn’t made it past that, losing in 2018 to Cuero. The Gobblers needed OT to beat Salado in round 1, but have been dominant since. Silsbee has the best player in 4-star WR Drelon Miller, but Cuero is a very solid football team with no weaknesses and a better coach, so I’ll take the Gobblers in an upset. Region IV Wimberley (13-0) vs. Lago Vista (10-3), 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hutto’s Memorial Stadium District rematch. Wimberley won 31-28 in a game that LV gave away with a bad punt snap late in the 4th. The Texans are 193-6 on the scoreboard in the playoffs. They finally gave up points on a 4thQ Jarrell TD last week, then promptly blocked the XP and ran it back for 2. Soph QB Cade Stoever has been ridiculous, throwing for 245y and 6 TDs in the first half last week, including 3 TDs in the final two minutes of the 1st half. LV shocked Navarro 27-7 last week and made it look easy. LV DTQB Bowen Stobb gave Wimberley fits in the first game. The Vikings lost in the region finals last season, albeit 3AD1. This is a whole different animal. Texans by a lot, and they’ll be rooting for Cuero. Class 3A Division I Region I Whitesboro (11-1) vs. Brock (9-4), 7 p.m. Thursday at Denton’s Collins Stadium District rematch, won by Brock 39-35. Brock’s record is really deceiving, as they opened the season with Pleasant Grove, Hirschi, Wimberley, and Gunter and unsurprisingly went 0-4. But all were close, which means they’re really fucking good, as Bushland found out last week when Brock rallied from 10-27 at half to win 51-27. They’ll beat Whitesboro again, because despite what people always say, it’s not that difficult to beat a team twice as long as you have a really good team. Region II Grandview (11-2) vs. Malakoff (12-1), 7:30 p.m. Friday at Waxahachie’s Lumpkins Stadium Rematch, as Grandview won a non-district match 21-17 back on 9/2. Grandview also beat MHS in the 2018 state championship. I watched a lot of Malakoff’s 35-14 win over West last week, and there’s a lot to like, including soph QB Mike Jones. This team looks bound for Jerryworld. Region III Columbus (12-1) vs. Franklin (13-0), 7 p.m. Friday at Tomball’s Tomball ISD Stadium Columbus is a team that has looked like a title contender all season, with a big O-line, strong running game, good QB in soph and NFL kid Adam Schoebel and a strong D, and they smacked around Yoe 48-14 last week. But Franklin is simply on a different level. Last week they beat the shit out of a Hitchcock squad that beat Columbus, and it never looked competitive. Region IV Llano (13-0) vs. Edna (12-1), 7 p.m. Thursday at San Marcos’ Rattler Stadium Unless the weather sucks, I’m going to this one. Edna has played at least 12 games in every season since 2013, but has not won region since 2014. Llano won region in 2020. Both teams would be cannon fodder in the semifinals, but I think Llano will earn that right. Class 3A Division II Region I Wall (12-1) vs. Canadian (11-2), 6 p.m. Friday at Woodrow’s Pirate Stadium Wall plays really good defense (80 points all season) but has a shitty offense. Canadian is opposite, with 696 points on offense. Wall’s best chance is terrible weather, and the Lubbock forecast does call for 20-30 mph winds with higher gusts possible. But that won’t be terrible enough for the Hawks, who need haboobs and tornados. Region II Holliday (13-0) vs. Gunter (12-0), 7 p.m. Friday at Frisco’s Ford Center 1 vs 2 in the state. Holliday’s D hasn’t allowed more than 19 points in a game all season, and the D single-handedly won a slugfest with Bells last week, 17-14. But as usual, Gunter has one of the best offenses in the state and a D that has allowed only 77 points; they creamed undefeated Palmer 40-6 last week. The Tigers beat Holliday 35-14 last year in this game, and I expect something similar. Region III Gilmer Harmony (8-5) vs. Newton (12-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Nacogdoches’ Bryce Stadium Harmony started 0-4, got smacked by Daingerfield in district, but pulled one of the biggest upsets in the state last week, 38-35 over West Rusk. Newton outlasted Daingerfield 16-12 last week, and should have it easier this week. Region IV Tidehaven (11-2) vs. Poth (12-1), 7 p.m. Friday at San Marcos’ Bobcat Stadium Why they’re playing this in Bobcat Stadium is a real mystery. I’m guessing there won’t be that many people driving in from El Maton. Poth has had a helluva program for years, going 69-13 since 2015, but they have always run into Shiner or Refugio (or Franklin last year) in the playoffs, so this is their first region final that I can see. They’ve outscored opponents 633-103 so far, losing only 22-21 to Shiner. Tidehaven has only lost to 3AD1 teams (Goliad, Vandy Ind), but is a frequent Poth victim in the playoffs, including 27-14 in 2021. Expect a similar score this season. Class 2A Division I (NOTE: I think this is the best group of regional finals of any classification.) Region I Cisco (11-2) vs. Hawley (13-0), 7 p.m. Friday at ACU’s Anthony Field at Wildcat Stadium District rematch, won 36-33 by Hawley in week 10. Hawley’s D had been the calling card in the regular season, but the offense has scored 52, 72, and 57 in the playoffs. Hawley beat Cisco 17-14 in the 3rd round of the 2021 playoffs. Cisco won 54-20 in the 2020 playoffs. It feels like we’re looking at a changing of the guard thing in Abilene-area small school football, as Hawley has stated its case as top dog and should do it again Friday. Despite what people always say, it’s not that difficult to beat a team twice as long as you have a really good team. Region II Tolar (13-0) vs. Crawford (13-0), 7 p.m. Friday at Burleson’s Burleson Stadium Tolar has allowed 95 points all season, Crawford 62! Tolar’s closest game was a 16-6 win over Coleman; Crawford beat Coleman 34-13 two weeks ago. These two shared a district the last seasons, and Crawford scored a 19-7 win in 2021 and a 49-17 win in 2020. Crawford has pedigree galore, and that’s important in TXHSFB. (Tolar is on 377 between Granbury and Stephenville if you’re wondering.) Region III Cooper (13-0) vs. Timpson (13-0), 7 p.m. Friday at Lindale’s Eagle Stadium Timpson is getting closer to kicking that sumbitch door in. The Bears are led by 4-star recruit Terry Bussey, who has started at QB for 3 years even though he’s a junior. The Bears have several guys who have been starting since they were freshmen in 2020. Cooper has had a great season, but they have no one like Bussey, nor have they seen anyone like him. Throwing a 4-star recruit in the middle of a 2A game is pretty much a game-decider. Region IV Shiner (11-2) vs. Refugio (12-1), 7 p.m. Friday at San Marcos’ Rattler Stadium District rematch, won by Refugio 38-27 on 10/21. Shiner beat Refugio in the region finals last year and 2020, 55-14 and 24-13. Shiner won 45-43 in 2019 thanks to terrible officiating, so these two teams know each other well, even though this Refugio team is quite different in 2022. The Bobcats run the ball way more than they used to, with nearly 3000 on the ground thanks to a RB-by-committee approach. They had 410 rushing against Shiner in the district game, led by 295 from Eziyah Bland. Shiner got 297 and 5 TD from RB Dalton Brooks last week, and they’ll need him to have a similar game to have a chance. Don’t bet on it. Despite what people always say, it’s not that difficult to beat a team twice as long as you have a really good team. Class 2A Division II Region I Wellington (12-1) vs. New Home (12-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Canyon’s Happy State Bank Stadium Wellington has allowed only 89 points all season, 13 in the playoffs, and lost only to a Lubbock private. NH lost the season opener to Haskell but has reeled off 12 in a row. They have had close calls the last two weeks, winning 22-21 and 14-8. This is unchartered territory for NH; they went 8-4 last season, their first winning record since 2016, and they were playing 6-man as recently as 2012. Wellington by a bunch. (If you’re wondering, New Home is about 20 miles south of Lubbock.) Region II Albany (11-2) vs. Collinsville (12-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Mineral Wells’ Ram Stadium Collinsville lost only to Cooper in September. They squeaked by Windthorst 32-28 last week. Albany is a regular in the region finals; they haven’t played fewer than 12 games since Maxpreps started keeping tabs in 2004 -- That is AMAZING. They took down undefeated Wink, the top-ranked team in the region, 35-18 last week, forcing 5 turnovers and getting 5 sacks. Collinsville’s only edge might be that Albany is coming off a Saturday night game and has less time to prepare. But I suspect that at this point, Coach Denney Faith is less preparing for Collinsville and more preparing to play Albany football, so there goes that. Region III Mart (13-0) vs. Lovelady (12-0), 7 p.m. Friday at College Station’s Tiger Stadium Hey, Lovelady’s D looks pretty good! Only 89 points allowed. Oh, Mart has allowed 76. Hey, Lovelady’s offense looks explosive, with 617 points. Whoops, Mart has scored 758. Mart survived a 21-20 win in October over 10-3 Centerville, who got knocked out by Timpson last week; other than that, their closest game was 47-22. These teams were district mates the last two years, with Mart winning by 47-16 and 48-12. That sounds about right for Friday, too. Region IV Burton (12-0) vs. Granger (11-2), 7 p.m. Friday at Bastrop’s Memorial Stadium Burton shocked my region favorite Chilton last week, 7-0, scoring on 4th down on the game’s first drive and holding Chilton under 100 yards. They played several close games to start the season – 21-18 over Holland, 6-0 OT over Hearne, and 13-12 over Falls City, but stomped everyone else in district and haven’t allowed a point in the playoffs so far. On offense, they don’t like to pass; in fact, they threw for -5 yards last week. Granger lost to Chilton and an OT game to Thorndale, but beat Falls City 35-15 last week. These two met twice last season when they were in the same district. Burton won both, 26-22 in district, and 57-27 in R2 of the playoffs. Bet on 3 in a row for Burton.

  30. Once upon a time, Computer Shopper was the king. If you're too young or you weren't a Nerd, you may not have even known this existed. Behold, shopping for computers and tech gear before the age of amazon.com: For better or worse this went the way of 56K Modems.

  31. Probably a good idea. A few years ago, I saw a poster who insisted that the Doak Walker award was only for Running Backs, therefore players designated as Half Backs and Tail Backs weren't eligible. That poster's name? RealGreggyGym. That poster's son? Geoff Ketchum.
