Woodworking, DIY, and home repair thread
I'm pretty sure it's mostly made of fungus slathered in tar. Our house had it until we moved the house to a new location and replaced all of the sewer line with plastic.

Things that remind you of growing up poor.
Back on the farm, as a young married man, MIL would boil the tongue on butchering day. She would refrigerate it and grind it the next day with pickle relish and onions to make a sandwich spread. It was good.

Shit I've Cooked Lately
We each had Grandparents that raised Rhubarb so it has always been a springtime ritual for us. ETA without the strawberries or mulberries to offset the sour it isn't very good.

Shit I've Cooked Lately
My wife and I are not good cooks or bakers, I would never try to compete with the crew that post in this thread. But I will post this picture of our first Rhubarb Strawberry pie of the season. We had to use store bought strawberries because ours aren't ready just yet. Our 3 Rhubarb plants are producing so much right now that we will use it about 10 different ways over the next 6 weeks. This pie will be gone by bedtime tomorrow.

I have tried my hand at fried rice several times and have never been able to get as good as I get at a restaurant. Maddening. Probably something pretty simple that I'm botching but there it is.

Hey Steel Shank!
Cross posted from the Poor people food thread in Lulz. The rice was left over from Fridays gumbo. The milk was sour and we were out of half & half so I made do with real cream. It was fine.

Oklahoma City Bombing: A Day in America
Nicholls and one other person, don’t know if it was McVeigh or not,Broke into our local Martin Marietta quarry and took blasting caps and dynamite. I saw that motherfucker around town often and had no idea. They mixed it all up at a county fishing lake 20 miles north of us.

Oklahoma City Bombing: A Day in America
Terry Nicholls was living in the country just outside of my hometown at the time. Once that connection was made the FBI and other LE agencies had a large presence here. A week or so before the bombing, I had rented a Ryder box truck in order to haul some tooling back to Kansas from a plant in Lincoln, IL. It stayed in the parking lot of our business until the tooling was repaired and I then drove it back to Lincoln. When I went to the airport to return home, the bomb had just gone off and all of the televisions in the airport were tuned to the special news report. A couple of days after I returned home, our company got a visit from the FBI because it had been reported that we had a Ryder truck sitting in our parking lot. They quickly checked the rental papers and ruled us out as suspects but it was pretty nerve wracking to say the least. The OKC Memorial is one of the most sobering monuments that I have visited. I highly recommend a visit.

Things that remind you of growing up poor.
My mom used to make a pot of macaroni and sauteed onions. She then made a thin gravy using bacon drippings and poured it over the macaroni. Probably had less than 50 cents in the whole meal. I'll bet we ate that at least 3 times a month.

Things that remind you of growing up poor.
My wife and I still do this from time to time. We are a long way from poor but some nights we just don't feel like doing much more than that. Another guilty pleasure is a pot of rice, sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar with a splash of half and half.

Negative Recruiting Your Own School: The aggy Screenshot Megathread
Whooshed, yes. I doubt that is an aggy though. Smells like surly to me.

Marshall would philosophically and politically align well with aggy. I am amazed how many Shocker fans still pine for the good old days of abusing players and choking assistants. He always said that he didn't intend to coach past his early Sixties, wanted to retire to a beach somewhere. As far as I know, he took his millions to leave and did just that.

2025 MLB thread
India is back in the lineup today. I haven't heard an official report of the damages but Q said it was non-concussive. If he is out for any length of time, the Royals offense will sputter even worse than they normally do. I fear that they would pencil him in regardless what the protocol says.

1st snek of the year. It's about 6" long, give or take. DeKuy's Brown Snake is our guess. They are very common around here. What say you, Surly?

I'm hopeful that Matt will have some success at SFA and be ready to come back to Wichita when the Paul Mills experiment ends.
