  1. Nope, the ignorant rubes don't know German or any other foreign language at all. They use the misspelled English signs that we see all the time. This lady knows exactly what the phrase means and knows where it came from. She's a fucking Nazi. I continue to be against these rallies because they put others in danger, but part of me wishes someone who knows they have coronavirus would intentionally seed one of them. That would at least stop the rest of them for a while.
  2. So they banged on windows and opened a window of a closed public building while armed. Seems like armed trespass would apply. Its also threatening to the person doing their job on the other side of the window. No doubt black people doing something like this would have been killed by police or in jail already. I'm surprised we also haven't seen any of these things lead to reckless endangerment charges simply for exponentially raising the risk of infection for others. Or a civil claim. I'd think, by now, a reasonable person would wear a face mask and maintain social distancing so as not to endanger those around them. If I was a LEO, or some other necessary worker there, who caught covid and contact tracing pointed to one of these rallies, I'd sue every protester who was covid positive and who wasn't taking reasonable and standard precautions to prevent themselves from spreading the virus.
  3. Yeah it sucks. Also sucks in the AL West. Need to add a couple of expansion teams then switch to 4 divisions in each league. No wild cards. AL East Red Sox Yankees Orioles Blue Jays AL Midwest Indians White Sox Twins Tigers AL Mid-South Royals Rangers Rays New New Orleans or Nashville team AL West Mariners Angels Athletics New Portland or Vancouver team NL East Phillies Mets Nationals Pirates NL Midwest Cubs Reds Brewers Rockies NL Mid-South Cardinals Braves Marlins Astros NL West Padres Diamondbacks Giants Dodgers
  4. That just means that neither Trump nor Hannity own any Gilead stock.
  5. I imagine they are the type of owners that don't actually do any work at all with the public. If I was drafting a reopening bill, if they want to open, I'd require business owners or CEOs to work the position at their company that requires the most exposure for a period of 2 months. So these urgent care owners can man reception if they arent qualified medical professionals. The CEO of the Gap will have to man a retail sales floor. Etc. They basically want to throw other people into the fire to save their necks.
  6. They should submit articles of secession instead. But what will really happen is they'll pretend to comply with his demands without actually complying and both sides will claim victory. I still think NYPD should pull all security from Trump Tower, and that Cuomo should declare it an emergency covid hospital. But DeBlasio should have done the former a couple years ago. The guy only cares about himself. You have to hit him personally in order to get him to act. NY can absolutely do that.
  7. Director clears that up in an interview, kind of.
  8. I don't care if they do a one and done March Madness format, although I'd prefer a short season full playoff format. I want to see some baseball. Whoever wins can and should count it. Every team has to play with the same circumstances. If they manage to play any baseball this year in any format, the winner and the whole deal is going to have a permanent section at Cooperstown. Your Orioles may end up being the only WS champ of the 2000s that everyone will remember forever. It will overshadow everything.
  9. General population never wants war. Republicans do it any way while making sure they and their sons avoid going to war themselves at all costs. Then they run "they hate our troops" ads against Dems who actually served and whose kids serve. And somehow that shit always works. Who hates the troops more? The people who want to send them to fight and die in another forever war somewhere, or the people that want them to be home?
  10. But thats not whats going to happen. Instead, they are going to find ways to bleed us more dry. This nation is a failed state. The founders would have looked at what is going on as tyranny of the minority, and would amend the constitution to fix it. They intended for it to be a living document after all. Impossible to do now though. Time for regions to start seriously thinking about leaving. States like KY will wallow in the darkness for a while, but will eventually wise up and attempt to rejoin a reformed union. But then, we will be able to establish economic and social benchmarks for reentry. There's a reason that we were able to build economic juggernauts out of the rubble of Germany and Japan, but have never in our history been able to establish a functioning economy in Mississippi.
  11. Im fine with both stopping. Let NY keep all its federal income tax from now on, and we are good. No bailout needed.
  12. The buzzwords, (C)onservative and (L)iberal, mean very little. Currently, the GOP is entirely anti-government except for when it comes to military and law enforcement. So while there could be some discussion on whether M4A or federally administered education is desirable, we don't have a GOP who is even sitting down to that table to discuss. Instead, we have a GOP that has been busy dismantling all public health governance, including the CDC, dismantling the department of State, and dismantling the EPA and the SEC. None of these agencies are even remotely "socialist." And this has been happening for 40 years. Trump is simply more transparent with it. The GOP isn't even currently libertarian. Its anarchist. Even in a libertarian dream island, they wouldn't allow a resident to pollute the whole island. All the landowners would get together and stop it. One could even call this meeting a "government." Personally, I'm leaning toward the "if they want anarchy, let's give it to them" solution, but we will see what happens in November.
  13. I live in NYC. People aren't shamed for going outside generally. They are shamed for not wearing masks and for gathering. However, runners are the new cyclists when it comes to being inconsiderate assholes. They run on the sidewalks with no mask, don't try to maintain a safe distance from others, and suddenly everyone and their mom is running. So what if you are moving faster. Its on you, not them, to distance yourself from other people on the sidewalk. No doubt that considerate runners are shamed too, but that also happened with considerate cyclists that don't run red lights and follow traffic flow. If you are running over the brooklyn bridge walkway with no mask, you are an asshole. And there are also still clueless types talking on their phone while standing at an entry point or bottleneck instead of standing somewhere with less foot traffic. But there has always been a scourge of people that do things like stop and check their phone right when they get off an escalator. It should be legal to sucker punch these types. Just get the fuck out of the way.
  14. Not that I don't think China bears some blame for having unsanitary markets, but I really don't see too many problems with the way China handled and responded to it once it was known to exist. Their infection and death rates look pretty doctored, but I don't think they held back any other knowledge for a long enough time to have decreased the spread. They were fairly open and quick with info in December and January, and they locked down Wuhan with military roadblocks on January 23. We were still pretending it wasn't serious then. I mean, countries put cities under martial law all the time for the common cold, right? Then again, their infection and death rates could be close to accurate. After all, they implemented an actual quarantine with severe consequences for those who tried to break it. Ours remains "pretty please stay home, but we won't really do anything if you don't." Easy to see why we would struggle more than them to stem the spread. Our biggest mistake was that while we were calling it the Chinese virus and trying to shut down travel only to/from China, it was already spreading in Europe. And Europe is what really brought it to our doorstep.
  15. There is hardly anything at all on disease models, infection, and death rates on the DT thread. Its mostly a finger pointing blame thread. Right now, its about blaming China. Whenever any rates are actually posted, they are shouted down as manufactured. The DT thread is more political than the CR thread. However, neither of them are particularly informative.
  16. You guys started socially distancing when NY did. For those of us in NY, it was too late, but for the rest of the country it was right on time. Don't fuck it up. This shit is bad. You really don't want it to explode in your town. I have a lot of friends that have had it to varying degrees, including hospitalizations. One of my best friends was in the hospital with it even and it seemed touch and go. Luckily, recovering now and never got to the ICU level. But, to tell her account, one day, you feel kind of very bad but regular sick, the next, out of nowhere you are gasping for breath and collapse on the floor. Then later, it seems to relent a little bit. Then it comes back hardcore. Now, a month later and even recovered, she still has bad fatigue, which is again off and on. Nobody knows the long term effects of it either. I suppose I'm also lucky that the deaths I know are 2 degrees of separation so far, but I know 17 at 2 degrees, and these are family and friends of my friends and colleagues. 2 people in my building have died from it too. I didn't know them. At the same time, I understand how odd it must feel to shelter in place in a place where you don't know anyone that has ever caught it, and maybe nobody actually has. However, you are doing the right thing. The shutdown is still surreal to me too. And I am right in the middle of it.
  17. In DT, you are way more likely to get banned for telling someone that Trump is a dumbass and they shouldn't drink bleach just because he told them to. That's why DT is pretty much only bleach drinkers now.
  18. I don't know. Do they have to tell them? 2 birds, one stone, you know.
  19. I always thought that was due to other latin dishes that use the same meat growing in popularity in the 2000s like ropa vieja.
  20. Is that somewhere fancy like Vandy? Bama will probably furlough its entire faculty and double Saban's salary as a retention bonus.
  21. Are y'all 90 years old? Fajitas were marketed at establishments state wide by the late 70s at least. Chicken fajitas were around in the early 80s.
  22. Yep. Military escort is gonna show up at your door. Escort you at gunpoint to work at the office instead of at home, make you have dinner out, and then make you have drinks at the bar after. Forced capitalism. Whats really going to happen though is that they want to pull the unemployment rug out from under restaurant and retail workers. So they will have to work. They haven't yet figured out that the restaurants and stores are going to be empty for the next couple months, open or not. So businesses go bankrupt, and right back to unemployment, but now with no covid stimulus backstop. Its really the overarching problem with GOP economic theory. They are unable to ever think of anything except supply. Tax cuts for businesses and the wealthy and it will trickle down to the people. Force businesses to open during a pandemic and the people will come. Really, they can't even grasp the idea of demand. Its a foreign concept. Which is crazy considering the fact that our economy is built entirely on consumption.
  23. It wasn't covid that inverted the boards. It was Trump. On shaggy, there were right wing trolls, but there were also a significant amount of reasonable right wing voices. After Trump, the reasonable voices either seemingly moved leftward like Brisket, Twice, and LL or quit posting like Wulaw and Auburn fan. That left only the trolls who quickly ran to the DT safe space. Hammer and onboard have been spewing nonsense in DT for a few years now. Every mass shooting thread for the last few years looked just like the DT covid thread. DT is practically a snake oil board now.
  24. Its never going away. We have a lot of dumbasses. Russia knows how to reach them. Birtherism and Jade Helm predate Trump. Sleepy Joe bullshit will postdate him. Russia will never let us have a functional country because we don't have the balls to stop them.
  25. While I'm sure having the My Pillow brand logo stamped on someone else's KN95 masks adds tremendous value, going to a middleman for this is pretty damn stupid. The VA should just contract directly with a subcontractor that can actually do the work.
