  1. I posted this a few years back on facebook. It is still what I think about every memorial day, and I thought it might be appropriate here. Five summers ago I was lucky enough to get to spend a weekend with one of my heroes. Along with my grandfather, my brother, and my cousin, I attended a reunion of my grandfather's unit from World War II. It was a great time, but it also forever changed the way I look at Memorial Day. I have always had an appreciation for Veteran's Day. I know plenty of Veterans, and it happens to have been my grandmother's birthday. The problem with Memorial Day is that I didn't know anyone personally who had made the ultimate sacrifice. Poppy had told me plenty of stories about his days in the army prior to that moment, but they had tended to focus more on the positive. A completely different side of my grandfather appeared when we approached one of the first exhibits at the museum. It was simply a sign on the wall that listed all of the soldiers who had fought in his unit and given their lives for us. As I stood with Poppy, he spoke a little softer and proceeded to point out the stories behind the names. "He died right in front of me." "He was my best friend." As he continued on through many more names, both of us started to tear up. I remember at one point toward the end of the list, Poppy said that he was providing cover fire to one of the names. He then trailed off as he stated that he guessed he didn't do a good enough job. It tore me apart to see one of my heroes hurt like that, and I just wanted to make him feel better. While I felt sad, I also felt honored that Poppy had shared with me some of his heroes and how much they meant to him. Sorry if this was too long, but it's Memorial Day. Thank you to all of Poppy's brothers and sisters in arms and all of our heroes who gave everything for us.
  2. We called this one “Nice”
  3. that is one way to avoid a grand slam
  4. Every time I have gone camping up there, beer has been cheap. So that is something.
  5. All three are going strong. The heifer was huge so we moved her to the twenty acres next to the house to watch over her. Once they were born we kept them in the pens and have been giving the mom extra cake. We did try to lighten the load a bit with bottles but only one, the bull calf, would take a bottle. Mom is still nursing all three.
  6. Our ranch made the paper. We recently had a heifer give birth to triplets, and all three survived. Our family has been ranching a long time, and this is the first time for us. Ranching couple describe 'miracle' birth of triplet Angus calves (brownwoodtx.com)
  7. That team had some badass LBs. Hardy, Howard and Rice.

Obstructions are still somewhat common on cases with good facts for the defense or at least were before corona, but not every county does them. For example Dallas, Tarrant, and Denton all do them, but Collin does not.
  9. As to feeder recommendations, I highly recommend Greengo feeders. A buddy of mine from high school makes them and they kick ass. I think we now have five of them running on the ranch and haven't had any issues. They are sturdy enough that we don't even have fences up, and we run cattle. On a side note, the wife informed me that we are going to keep chickens at the house. Since fur prices went in the toilet, I haven't trapped in a while so the coons, foxes, and other furry critters are running wild. I was thinking about running a trapline this winter. Does y'all know if there is still anyone out there that buys furs?
  10. I like it. Bob can carry the show with sports, and that allows Corby and Danny to sit back and snipe away with idiocy. The hardline was at its best when there were the two factions - Greg and Mike doing the show and Danny and Corby dumbassing around in the background. When Corby tries to carry a non comedy segment it reminds me of junior high kid giving a book report.
  11. Rakestraw has a visor. Do not want.
  12. I actually see this making cheating more difficult. I am guessing that there will be strict rules on the money and it might even have to be approved by NCAA. It will make the trans am and fed ex obsolete. A school like Texas should clean up - large fan base and the ability to hire compliance staff.
  13. Lincoln Riley loudly explains the theory behind football after every play in the stands at a Texas Football game when everyone around him grew up in Texas. He then makes fun of the drunk guy who just can’t take it anymore and tells him to shut the fuck up.
  14. It depends on what you mean by hold up. If you mean dominating then no. If you mean making just enough plays to kill more of their drives then they kill of ours yes.
  15. It is hard to pay attention to the game with the standup routine going in the booth, I am worried that Comedy Central may hire them away at halftime.
  16. 11-1 Think we beat LSU. Not sure which game we lose, but we are at little too inexperienced to not have an off week.
