  1. I think Trump isn't going to be able to run/isn't going to get the nomination.  Either by the current indictment or the one coming from Georgia.  So I'm expecting to get Younkin or Kemp to jump in from the R side and one of those two, Desantis, or Tim Scott will be the R nominee.

And I think Newsome is basically starting to run without announcing in case something happens to Biden, either physically or if there is something to the alleged recordings of him and Hunter taking bribes.  A good Dem candidate that Sydney didn't mention would be Polis from Colorado.

  2. There are four rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body; and never argue with a guy that has over 700 of his posts complaining about Elon Musk. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Search this thread and a few others on this board for keywords like Covid mandate policy and you will find some real smooth brain public health policy geniuses.

what is the point of doing that search unless you're going to dunk on those smooth brained folks?  I'd love to reread some of the greatest hits

We are going to get to watch another Sandy Hook theory get going in real time. They’re all in with this on Musk Twitter. We really live in two different dimensions at this point.

I don't understand any of this.  Who cares?  The guy was a piece of shit murderer.  Does this Greg nerd have a problem with the murderer being mexican nazi because he feels like it is somehow connected to him?  Why does it matter when or where he posted and on what social media account?

That is their market cap (it’s $53B). They wouldn’t sell for anything less than $70B. And I heard some info today that would lead me to believe it’s not likely. PXD certainly approaching it with banker-generated smoke.

Hmm, guess we were at the same breakfast

dammit this is starting to feel like 2008 again.

what's the saying, history doesn't repeat itself, but it rhymes.  Not quite the same as 2008 but investor psychology is all going back to that period.   We are in the FAFO phase of a decade of zero interest rate policy.  Depositors are going to pull cash and put it into various not bank required products that are 'safe'.  Yields are being pushed down across the board due to both fear of growth and capital flows.

Regulation would not have stopped this mess from showing up.  This is poor risk management at banks combined with a Fed driven balance sheet nuke and severe capital control issues by VCs and their underlying companies.

I'm aware of a company that had $20mm in deposit at SVB along with a very small loan line.  They were required, as part of their loan covenants, to keep the cash on deposit at the bank.  Could not do anything else with it.

I don’t do anything like investing in companies. I buy oil and gas assets directly, knowing that oil prices will remain high for the next 10-12 years. Demand will be there but is not really a consideration. The biggest consideration is that the only source of growth in the last 10 years - US Shale - is in irreparable decline. It will become painfully obvious for everyone when the Permian goes terminal in about 18 or so months.

could you give me a bit more detail on the "permian goes terminal"?  Does that mean you think PXD/OXY/EOG should be avoided at this time?

This is my second go-round, despite 5 shots.  Pretty sure I got it from the fat guy sitting on top of me on my SW flight back from Miami 10 days ago.

I don't think it's breaking news that several agencies have reached different conclusions, each of differing levels of confidence, as to the source of the outbreak.  I wasn't intending to question you for posting the report, it's all over the news today.  I just meant to point out that it's hardly surprising that the FBI might have reached that assessment given the other assessments that have already come out.

Without going CR or Q-tard, there is a significant population (many who post in this forum because they think the CR is icky) who harbor this exact theory, and look for anything to support their confirmation bias.  Implicit in many of the posts in this very thread is this presumption.

OK you got me.  I overlooked the "low confidence" point.  It doesn't appear that anyone has a firm opinion supported to a level of high confidence of anything.

I think we all agree that China has been particularly obstructive here, and justifies a reasonable level of suspicion as to its motives.

    Feel better soon

This really isn't groundbreaking news, and the FBI's assessment is far from a conclusive determination.  What does appear to be most likely is that however it made its way into the human population, it was not genetically engineered or released intentionally.

    From the DNI website:

"The IC assesses that SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, probably emerged and infected humans through an initial small-scale exposure that occurred no later than November 2019 with the first known cluster of COVID-19 cases arising in Wuhan, China in December 2019. In addition, the IC was able to reach broad agreement on several other key issues. We judge the virus was not developed as a biological weapon. Most agencies also assess with low confidence that SARS-CoV-2 probably was not genetically engineered; however, two agencies believe there was not sufficient evidence to make an assessment either way. Finally, the IC assesses China’s officials did not have foreknowledge of the virus before the initial outbreak of COVID-19 emerged."

The report goes on to note that the intelligence community remains divided on the most likely origin of COVID-19 (with which I'm currently suffering, BTW).

    https://www.dni.gov/files/ODNI/documents/assessments/Unclassified-Summary-of-Assessment-on-COVID-19-Origins.pdf

How many times have you had the damn thing?

Not breaking news?  I don't recall ever seeing on video the Director of the FBI publicly making that statement so it seemed relevant.  I also don't see anyone pushing the biological weapon theory so don't know why you felt the need to put that out there.  "low confidence is probably was not genetically engineered".  I guess that settles it....lol. Come on DDD, the number one reason for knowing it was lab related is the lack of cooperation and outright destruction of evidence that could destroy that theory.  Oh well, as it states in the full DNI report:

"China’s cooperation most likely would be needed to reach a conclusive assessment of the origins of COVID-19. Beijing, however, continues to hinder the global investigation, resist sharing information, and blame other countries, including the United States. These actions reflect, in part, China’s government’s own uncertainty about where an investigation could lead as well as its frustration the international community is using the issue to exert political pressure on China."

The intelligence report that some workers may have been sick? Yes, we've known about that for some time. Here is the WSJ reporting on it in 2021, https://www.wsj.com/amp/articles/intelligence-on-sick-staff-at-wuhan-lab-fuels-debate-on-covid-19-origin-11621796228. While interesting, without more information, it is impossible to say whether it has any connection at all to Covid-19. And, even if it does, that doesn't necessarily suggest lab release.

If China had hard evidence that it could blame the US, it definitely would. Right now, the entire focus is on China. If it could shift a bit of it somewhere else, it would.

Also, I haven't downplayed anything. I continue to believe that a lab release is a possible and plausible origination story for Covid-19. But, there is also no direct evidence linking the virus to the lab. And, given that we do know a bit about the research being done there and many of the viruses being studied there, it is notably that we can't find a connection to SARS-CoV-2 (e.g., we don't have a genetic link between any of the viruses that were known to be studied there and SARS-CoV-2). Sure, part of that could be because of Chinese government interference. But given that a lot of our information about the lab predates when the Chinese government started interfering, we do have to admit this is at least some evidence of absence. We have another competing, possible, and plausible origination story centered on animal transference and the wet markets. And we have recent examples of other coronaviruses making that exact same leap and causing wide-spread illness. (e.g., SARS-CoV-1 and MERS-CoV). Again, two plausible origination stories, but not a lot of information to allow us to intelligently decide between the two of them. I think the balance of factors weighs against lab release, but not by much.

So you disagree with the FBI and the DOE.  And you're spending a ton of time and effort in this thread trying to downplay the lab release and give more credence to the natural origin.  I'm curious why?
