Just finished Tim O'Brien's "Dad's Maybe Book." (I knew of him before but have not read him, I will amend that). He's about 30 years older than I, but we each have two boys of nearly the same ages. What a beautiful and raw and indulgent and honest and selfish and perfect book it was for a dad of boys. I'm not sure what to do with it yet or how to unpack it, but as of now, the only book that has more proufoundly plucked my fatherly strings has been Cormac McCarthy's "The Road." Devastatingly beautiful. Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk
I'm a very beginner fly fisherman, but I stopped into Living Waters a couple weeks ago for the first time, and it was a great experience. Very helpful and tolerant of my noob questions, and gave me some great tips on flies for my local spot.
Also picked up this book while I was there:
I don't know if that's a well-known resource, but the little I have read so far is very informative and entertaining.
I've tried to stay out of this thread for a long time for the good of my wallet, but we're heading out on the road for Colorado in about 2.5hrs, and feeling totally stoked as well as terrified that I won't be able to resist upgrading my rig while I'm up there.
Appreciate the advice, Deej. Sent Rupp to the vet even though he was getting better (he was due for his yearly anyway), and they did express some inspissated anal sac material on one side that was likely contributing (I'm very disappointed in South Austin's mom, she's supposed to be taking better care of that).
He also had doggeh swimmer's ear, so glad to get that addressed as well.
He's back to 100% loveable dumbass.
Well, looks like we may have let Rupp overdo it the last couple days. He's been acting uncomfortable and holding his tail weird. I"m going to crown myself Vet and diagnose him with Limber Tail Syndrome (links here and here), as he looks pretty much exactly like the pictures/video:
Anybody else had this happen? Sounds like rest/conservative treatment will clear it up in a few days, but I feel awful for the guy. Extra treats incoming.
Eh, dry AF, but nobody had a problem eating it. I have no business posting brisket pics on this site, but why not. Did get a decent smoke ring. Best of all, I had a great day on the back porch with the family. Oh, and now enjoying the first pour of a keg of homebrew oatmeal stout. Happy Easter, assholes. God loves you.
Indeed it is. Someone on here owned or was connected to Smokemaster, was that you? Now that the sun is up, the dog is doing a good job finding Easter eggs whilst waiting for his human brothers to wake up. Beautiful morning.
The dog and I are up with a brisket I discovered in the deep freeze now on the smoker, and admiring the pre-dawn lightning show. We'll stream church onto the back porch TV. Strange times indeed. Might as well have a sermon beer. Happy Easter, Surly.
Just finished kegging my oatmeal stout, and racked a bitter to secondary.
I'm a little ashamed of how light my other kegs are becoming. May have to put in an order from AHS.
Who the fuck is this guy???
Yeah, he's not quoting literature and shit, but he's doing a pretty fucking amazing job explaining all this shit on an understandable yet sophisticated level. I'll take exception with some of things he says, but overall, he's as good as my best basic sciences profs (albeit not as dirty or quite as outlandishingly entertaining as Frank Kretzer).
What a great educator.
But for fuck's sake, turn yer damn hat around!
Separate incidents?
So @Anastasis, evidently I ordered a case of Fever Tree tonic from Amazon that arrived today. Don't quite know how that happened...
How many gin and tonics a day to reach equivalent efficacy? 🤔
Tapped my Irish red last night for a quiet St. Patty's at home.
I've got about 20+ gal of homebrew on hand, so I should be good for at least the next 10 days or so.
Great thead idea.
I still gotta work until I get quarantined, but the wife and kids are off for at least a couple weeks. Here's my current pandemic-prioritized watchlist (with 12 and 15yo boys):
Finish up what we've started:
M*A*S*H*
Cheers
As much Simpsons as the pandemic will allow
We've worked our way up to Diamonds are Forever in the James Bond films
Finish off what we haven't seen in the Pink Panther movies
New stuff:
World's End
The Dead Don't Die Revisit:
Shaun of the Dead
Zombieland 1&2
WWZ (yes, the book is better and we've all read it)
Alien/Aliens
Open for more suggestions. I'm sure I've left stuff off, but this is a hurriedly made list. Hope I make it through it before I succumb.
