  1. Over the weekend, by 13 yr old grand daughter was at the house. We started recording some things she wanted to sing. After the first one, I was adding a guitar part and she was on her phone, texting with her friends. I thought it was because she was bored and wasn't having fun so I was ready to just pull the plug. Then she starts talking to me and I figure out she had been chatting with her friends, telling how much fun she was having and they were sending her suggestions on songs to record.
  2. Well...that was cool AF. Pete Thorn seems like such a laid back guy. Love his stuff.
  3. This is probably my favorite from the album. In an interview with Rick Rubin, Mike describes the tone/feel as "Angus rhythm guitar". Kind of a John Lee Hooker feel to it at well.
  4. Saw him open for Turnpike Troubadours. Liked his stuff that night.

    RIP Hal Ketchum

If you can find this album, get it. Patrick Alger doing all the songs he wrote that others had hits with. Not only it is full of great songs, the backing musicians on the recording could fill up a REAL awards show. Lyle Lovett, Kathy Mattea, Mary Black, Kenny Malone, Trisha Yearwood, Jelly Roll Johnson, Pat McInerney. The album is a true classic.

Man...forgot about him. Small Town Saturday Night was a great song. This song was on that same album... Don't know who was finding his songs but they nailed it. Past The Point of Rescue. This is probably my favorite of the ones he wrote.
  7. Ha. Even when someone in that town talks a great act into coming...no one shows up. What a musical shithole.
  8. Yep. I bought them when AUTF posted about them about 5 years ago and have been slowly replacing all of mine in batches. I have one set that goes with me to band practice and one that stays at home on my permanent set up.
  9. I've had really good luck with these GLS cables. https://www.amazon.com/GLS-Audio-Guitar-Instrument-Cable/dp/B00XQF90PC/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=gls+cables&qid=1606140283&sr=8-6
  10. @Al_4_ISU If you can't find any of the Reivers stuff, let me know. Their first album was under the band name, Zeitgeist. That band in one of my very, very favorites of all time. From 87-91...right in my wheelhouse.
  11. Beauty. Never seen a two tone. I was curious from the previous pictures because of the binding. LOVE that MOTS pickguard. What's the story on that white Epi?
  12. Holy shit. I've been trying to put this into words for a long time now and haven't been able to string them together. Thanks @Kennythetiger
  13. That second song is from Mojo. If you haven't heard that, spend some time with it. When I saw him on the last tour, this song was the only one from Mojo he played. Mike played a Les Paul on it and Holy fuckity fuck...it was a full blown ROCK song. Sounded like a lost Led Zep song.
  14. I used to thank my bartenders for cutting me off because I damn sure couldn't do it most nights.
  15. @tbone_ I just love that setup.
  16. Rick Rubin's podcast, Broken Record has had a couple of fantastic interviews with Mike. It is amazing how self-aware he is.
  17. Wooooo. Can't wait to see the one. I need to pull the trigger on one.
  18. How about this. I would never give Hayes Carll a chance when he first started because I thought his name sounded too much like a made-up, bro-country, name. Same for Turnpike Troubadours and John Moreland but that is primarily due to my hate and contempt for anything from Oklahoma. I hate that fucking place. I can thank Flaco (can't remember his new name on here) and @Al_4_ISU for those two. I only gave John Fullbright a chance early on because Sam Baker told me a funny story about him one night. Also @Paul Wesley and @jimmyjazz for their general music knowledge (and Paul's excellent CD). And EVERY asshole on the Guitar Pron thread and the lovely fucking drunks on the alcoholic thread who keep me from killing myself.
  19. According to this newscast, she was only collecting the samples, then sending them out to other labs. She was getting paid by the state but wasn't paying the labs who did the tests, so she just made up the results. Seems like the state has a theft case against her as well. If this is true, she wasn't doing it to actually hurt the families...she was just stealing and not caring what happened to the families. She will probably serve 3-5 years of that sentence. I hope the day she gets out, the state comes back in and charges her for the theft. https://www.wtvy.com/2020/11/13/woman-who-cost-parents-custody-of-their-children-headed-to-prison/
  20. How about Jay singing with Kelly Willis on one of Bruce's early songs. And Jay singing with Kelly on one she cowrote with Gary Louris from The Jayhawks.
  21. When the first Wilco and first Son Volt records came out, I really thought Son Volt was going to be the more successful and 'better' of the two. Damn, I love that record.
  22. That is a beauty! Let us know when our new guitar is delivered. I LOVE it when we get a new guitar.
  23. And it's now or never, too close to the latter. We're all living proof that nothing lasts. What a great fucking record. Thanks for posting about that @4th and 5 And Kasey Chambers' version of "Tear Stained Eye"....momma.
  24. Make sure HE is set on a Tele. What type of music does he listen to? What kind is he playing?
