  1. Not UT related,  but congrats to Texas Lutheran for winning the DIII National Championship.    Tournament was held at UT Tyler   Other teams were Emory, Trine, Williams, Easter Conn St (need to google 😊).    Most of the TLU players are from the Houston/SE Texas area with a couple of Cali ladies.    Our state has its share of softball talent.

  2. UTSA job is open.     Don't think our assistants have the resume.    Marshall and Corbett (previous coach) and the former AD were aggy grads.   Current AD is UTEP grad.

COACHING NEWS: Another coaching change, as @UTSABSB head coach Jason Marshall will step aside after seven seasons with the program. He went 209-192 in those seven seasons with the Roadrunners.

  3. Good article from Baseball America.  Excerpts only,  full article is worth a read for info on all the Regionals.

Also,   2018 NCAA Baseball Commitee Selection Members.    Not sure if tenure is for 1 or 2 years,  can't find info on 2019.    Someone who uses twitter may ask Kendall.

The selection committee on Monday revealed the 2019 NCAA Tournament bracket and it delivered one big surprise among the at-large bids, selecting Texas Christian as the last team in the field ahead of teams such as Central Florida, Houston, Missouri and Texas State.

TCU finished the season 32-26 and ranked No. 59 in RPI, the worst of any at-large team and below Arizona, Brigham Young, Houston, Texas State, UCF and UC Irvine, all teams also considered to be on the bubble.

But the Horned Frogs went 14-15 against Big 12 competition and reached the semifinals of the conference tournament. They also had a dozen wins against top-50 opponents, more than any of the other bubble teams, and won 16 games away from Fort Worth.

That rationale – an emphasis on top-50 wins and not on RPI – also seemed to drive the selection committee’s decision to award a home regional to Mississippi, which was announced Sunday night. The Rebels ranked No. 22 in RPI, typically outside the range necessary for an SEC team to host, but the Rebels went 20-19 against top-50 opponents. No team in the country played more games against top-50 competition and their 20 wins in those games were far more than Miami (15), North Carolina State (11) and Texas A&M (14), the other teams that were in the hosting race.

That kind of emphasis is somewhat of a departure for the committee, which at times in the past has used RPI as a crutch. But in a year where the RPI always felt a little off – Oregon State and Stanford have never fared well and Auburn and Tennessee maintained top-20 RPIs despite having losing records in the SEC – going away from a strict reliance on RPI was probably necessary.

Most of the rest of the field aligned with Baseball America’s final projections, which had 63 of the 64 teams correct for the third year in a row. The selection committee seeded Georgia Tech at No. 3, higher than had been expected, but, again the Yellow Jackets fared better in top-50 wins (19) than in RPI . 😎

I would love to see this.  aggy thinks that being a #2 in Lubbock is an easy deal for them cause sec sec sec.  Tech would wipe them off the field.  In fact I bet aggy doesn't make a Super at all.

Loathe aggy,   but they have excellent pitching which makes them formidable in a Regional.    Hope they go to UCLA.

  5. Coach Murphy with classy/courteous comments to open, talks about playing Texas in 2020/2021,  rest not worth listening.     Coach White' opens with comments with congrats to Alabama, instant replay, and further addresses the issue beginning at 3:22.   "Even Little League has instant replay"    Hope the "electronic strike zone" comment does not draw NCAA scrutiny.

From reading the coaching bios,   Murphy seems to be in charge of hitting.    He does an excellent job of the hitter  making adjustments.   Couple of early key hits were inside pitches that the Alabama hitter adjusted to and did not overswing.

  6. Quotes from the game.

Though Tedder is a better defender,   she is hitting .217.    Would like to see Alcozer (,282) in the lineup.   Bekah is prone to K's,  but can also be a power boost to the lineup.  Need a spark.  We finished 4th in hitting in conference play (.255) behind OU, OKSt, and Tech.

Alabama is loaded with pitching.   Probably will see Goodman or Cornell tonight.

The biggest of Thursday’s seven hits came from the bottom of Alabama’s batting order. Crimson Tide coach Patrick Murphy says he likes “to leave a surprise in the nine spot” and that surprise against the Longhorns was senior Merris Schroder. With one out and a runner on third base in the third inning, Schroder hammered a pitch from Elish over the fence in right field at Rhoads Stadium.

Schroder entered the game with 11 homers, third-most on the team. She hadn’t batted ninth this season before the regional-clinching win over Arizona State, but both times she’s homered out of the spot in the lineup.

“By the time it gets around to me at the bottom, I’ve seen a lot of at-bats,” said Schroder, a Houston native who said her father was once a drum major at Texas. “I kind of got a better idea of what they’re going to throw me and what she’s looking like and stuff like that.”

The homer was the 10th surrendered by Elish this season. But she hadn’t seen one of her pitches leave a park since Oklahoma’s Jocelyn Alo went deep on her in the fifth inning of a game at McCombs Field on April 20. Elish’s stretch of not giving up a home run covered 62 1/3 innings and 923 pitches.

“She capitalized on one of my mistakes,” Elish said. “I threw a pitch right down the middle and she drove it. I can’t do that when I have a batter with two strikes.”

An all-conference honoree and All-American candidate, Elish was bested by Alabama freshman Montana Fouts. An acquaintance of Elish from travel ball, Fouts allowed three hits and did not issue a walk. Texas, which never got a runner to third base, suffered its fourth shutout loss of the season.

“I felt like she was bringing it a little bit,” UT sophomore Janae Jefferson said. “It wasn’t too overpowering for us. We just have to attack the ball early in the counts and be more of an aggressive-hitting team.”

In defeat, Elish gave up three hits and two earned runs over four innings. She recorded just one strikeout.

Elish was coming off a weekend in which she earned four regional wins with a 429-pitch effort in the span of two days. White said Elish was working with a short leash, but she will likely return to the circle in Friday’s elimination game.

“Sometimes you’ve got to save the bullets,” said White, who had senior Brooke Bolinger throw two innings of scoreless relief.

Around the bases: Texas committed two errors. Alabama scored its third run on UT catcher Mary Iakopo’s throwing error on a successful fourth-inning double steal. … Jefferson’s bunt single in the fourth frame was her 75th hit of the season. That ranks second in UT’s history books, breaking a tie with the 74 hits that she totaled as a freshman. … Thursday’s game drew an announced crowd of 2,887. … Texas and Alabama will meet again at 8 p.m. on Friday. It’ll be carried by ESPN and 105.3.

Anybody know where any other members of this year's team are playing this summer?

Hopefully,  TexasSports.com and the AAS will provide info in the near future.

I thought Cobb was a Cape candidate.

Will be interesting to see if Texas A&M hosts on Monday. Aggies were in good shape entering the day, but now open the door for some teams to leap them, IMO.

    ; 2) the coaches have screwed around with hitter's swing planes and pitchers' arm angles this year and the results have been a disaster ;

I think there is truth to the above.    Not a regular viewer,   but happened to see part of Game Plan with David Pierce on LHN awhile back.    He talked extensively about correcting hitter's mechanics using intricate terms.

Please keep us posted on other info and we will make your green bar expand.....oh, wait...

To amend my post above about Neely,  AAS stated Pierce and the coaches had individual meetings with the players this past Monday to discuss their performance and future.    Neely may have been told he was not part of the future.   However,  I talked briefly with his Dad at a high school game.  Dad seems like a no bs guy wanting the best for his son.   Neely is definitely a project,  but has the tools to be very good.   Perfect Game ranked Neely, Cobb, and Madden very close.   Neely is not Pierce's type of pitcher due to control issues (walks).

Way to make it dramatic Tech.  It took 3 pitchers in the 9th to get it done.

Coach Hughes has made KSt very competitive.

When did Jung move to SS ?    Lost confidence in Baker ?

Good Luck !     Beat LSU and the SEC.

Great, well coached team,  great fans.   Really enjoyed the visit to Austin in the past though Texas is 1-4.   Coach Trachsel is the real deal.

Cross Jack Neely off - in the portal.

Though Neely's performance was erratic this year,  likely indicates he feels he is not receiving proper coaching.

    -  From a UT Family.  Great grandfather and grandfather played football here.

    - Would have been a fairly high draft choice.   Saw him pitch in high school couple of times.   Numerous scouts.    Told scouts he intended to attend UT,  his dream school.

    - May transfer to a smaller school and become draft eligible.   Only 19 yo.

    -  Only negative he is a Red Sox fan.    😊

We didn't offer this guy...slugged. 617 and had 28 xbh and 54 rbi this season

With due respect,   apparently he was not offered by another P5 program,  offered higher scholarship percentage at Sam,  or other reasons.

But coaching matters.   From Head Coach Matt Deggs profile, SHSU.    SHSU is hitting .304 this year.

Sam Houston captured the Southland Conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament, running off four-straight victories at the league tournament at Sugar Land's Constellation Field. The team hit .356 (48 of 135) at the event, averaging 9.25 runs per game while the pitching staff posted a 1.32 ERA, limiting opponents to a .167 average

Sam Houston finished the 2017 season as the Southland Conference leader in 12 different team categories including finishing third in the country in triples (28), fourth in sac bunts (70), 10th in hits (676), 10th in stolen bases (102) and 20th in runs (443).

Prior to Sam Houston, the Texas City native served as the Louisiana-Lafayette hitting coach and third base coach, while also overseeing team personnel and recruiting. The Cajuns were a game away from the College World Series in 2014, while the squad posted the most wins in both Sun Belt and program history, finishing the season with 58 victories.

For the second straight season Deggs guided an offense that was revered as the best in college baseball. Louisiana-Lafayette finished the season ranked in the top 10 in the nation in 14 offensive categories and had an OPS of .902.

The second link lists the top Houston area players in 2018.      We get our share - it is about development.

Carr, Lembcke, Roberts were cut.   Holland went pro.   Someone posted Carr led the state in home runs his senior year.    With 11.7 scholarships,  it is a numbers game.   Pierce elected to carry 17 pitchers this year - relatively high number.

    >

Edit:  To Pierce's credit,  he was in the office at 10AM Sunday.    Passed by and saw his sponsored vehicle (Tahoe) or perhaps he left it overnight.

As someone who is also searching for a vehicle,  also seriously considering the 4Runner.   However,  safety ratings are below average for rollover and driver side impact.

Check the above vid at :042.    This was a single vehicle accident,  driver lost control.   Passenger stated it was possible 4Runner was sideswiped by another vehicle but no proof.   Passenger survived,  driver did not.    The incline is only about 15-20 degrees.   Passenger stated in another interview that the 4Runner just kept rolling.    Don't know if speed was a factor.

Can't believe the roof caved to that extent.

  16. Where have you been with score updates ?  😊

My guess is Todd and Henley go.  They almost left during the coaching transition

Reynolds will depend on his draft position and advice from his Dad.

A touching moment during the 8th inning of the last OU game - as Pierce was making a pitching change, Reynolds put his arm around McCann.
