  1. Csb: I met and worked with Tony (the kicker) for a bit in 2000. He was a good guy and always laughed when telling that story. Said 2 things were going through his mind when he got the pitch: 1) this is gonna hurt and 2) I’m going to kill Field for pitching it to me. Said the play was not supposed to be a pitch, if it wasn’t there for the holder (a wr), he was just supposed to go down. Gave Brackens all the credit in the world for the hit.

This right here. Everyone always talks about the football aspect, but baseball has been my favorite part.
  3. Really looking forward to this. I re-read Shogun, Tai Pan, Noble House, and Whirlwind (skip King Rat and Gaijin) every few years. I hope the production company follows up with more.
  4. Dusty took over a team in the middle of a made-up “scandal”. Do not ever forget that. He underachieved with the Astros. Just like he has everywhere else.
  5. They are probably waiting for the first home game against aggy.
  6. I thought it was an impossible task to do the movie Dr. Sleep. The Shining book and movie had so many differences but I love both. I thought Dr. Sleep did better than it could have hoped for. Had great actors and the people involved did a great job navigating all of the source material and creating a good story. And I loved the part at the Overlook.
  7. Honestly wish he had gone to Philly. Atlanta is where great Longhorns go to be amazing and never get recognized. Screw that town. Truly hope the best for him.
  8. Something that has worked well for me over the years is head to Armadillo Palace (used to go to Kay’s before they sadly closed), have a beer, and grab an uber to the Holiday Inn at La Concha & Kirby. After the show, head back to the Holiday Inn and hit the bar there to enjoy the barrel racers and buckle bunnies. Then grab an uber back to Armadillo.
  9. I went to Stewart and really enjoyed it. Not sure how it is today. My nephew went to La Junta from k-8 and loved it. As mentioned above, if you go to one of the shows and talk with the owner and introduce your son, that normally takes care of any waitlist issues you might have.
  10. Ha, well, don't be surprised to see both Bun B and Lizzo out there next year, and not necessarily on the 2nd Friday.
  11. Her availability this year. HLSR has a wish list, and they pay attention to who is charting, who is touring well, etc... They stack rank and start reaching out well in advance. Some bands have standing invitations and work well with the staff. Others are permanently banned. Some bands have tours already booked and can't work around it. Others don't want to perform because of beliefs (such as cruelty to animals - not kidding). Others don't want to perform because they aren't comfortable in the setting (having everyone so far away. It definitely bothers some acts. New stage and other things have helped over the years). You are always going to see similar acts year over year. Most up-and-comers don't fill up the stadium and/or have the right connections to be invited (and are too big for the Hideout/Wine Garden stages). #1 goal of the show is money. If they are not going to sell out or come close, the show isn't too interested. The rodeo has spent tons on diversity studies, and is always looking for ways to include all aspects of Houston. The big issue there is that first and foremost, this is a livestock show and rodeo event, and that is not for everyone. Best thing this year is to head out early on the 11th, grab free drinks at the poultry junior market auction (maybe help out the kids), then wander over and see Turnpike. And Go Tejano Day is a nightmare for committee members just from the sheer size of the crowd. Best thing to do is sit in a suite and drink tequila all day.* *These views are my own and do not reflect the views of HLSR is any way, shape, or form. (in case tx 3 putt was wondering)
  12. Tech: “You can’t leave! All of the plants are gonna die! How about a yearly game?” Texas: “um, yeah, maybe, let’s look into that.” Tech: “we have a guaranteed agreement!”
  13. Oh I love your suits. It must have been a real bitch to get a 68 extra fat and a 12 dwarf.
  14. Well they replaced her character with one admiral’s daughter. Penny Benjamin
  15. Eh, just come up anyway. Plenty of room at the bar right now.
  16. The Fourth Protocol Torn Curtain
  17. Let us all know what narrative you feel is fair and just. It’s cool if you want to jump to conclusions. You have your opinion in your mind. It’s anti-Houston, that’s ok. Where else did it touch you?
  18. The promoters/organizers are screwed. Not NRG, not the city, and not the county. HPD and HFD responded appropriately and quickly. This was not a city/county event. There were expectations for security and crowd control and attendance that were agreed to and then ignored by the organizers. Their biggest issue right now is proving to their underwriters that they were within the scope of the policy. Cue Morgan Freeman saying, "they weren't". This was fully preventable. The organizers chose to ignore the issues. And I know one of the casualties.
  19. Scott in ‘86 is the best. Mets knew if they lost game 6 that they were losing game 7. What Framber did tonight was ridiculous. Perfect through 4 at Fenway does not happen.
