Fertitta spent big bucks lobbying for casinos in Texas. He was all set up in Galveston. When he realized it wasn’t going to happen anytime soon, he bought the under construction Nugget. I’m sure he would still welcome casinos in Texas even though he’d take a big hit in Lake Charles.

It's him and his lawyer that have submitted a request to the AG to review the legality (ie. shut down) the poker rooms in Texas. Guy didn't get his casino and now sees the poker rooms as a threat. As said earlier, Fuck him.

Thanks for posting this article. Feels like at some point the heat will be on the officials in Austin to declare these poker rooms to be illegal. (Follow the money). Meanwhile, they could easily go the other direction (but won’t) and pass legislation and we could have jobs jobs jobs and tax revenue.

Meanwhile in DFW, are there any of these fee based poker rooms operating? 9 in Houston and lots in SA.

Most interesting part of that article:

The lawyer and lobbyist for Landry's owner Tilman Fertitta, who also owns the Golden Nugget casinos, has already made up his mind.

In a legal brief to Attorney General Paxton, that lawyer tells the AG plainly, "poker rooms violate Texas law and are illegal."

It is one of several briefs filed as the poker rooms continue to open across our state.

Fucking douchebag. This state loses millions if not more money to Louisiana, Oklahoma, and even New Mexico regarding poker and gambling. I just wonder how many of our state legislator's pockets are line from these border states. Seems as if we will be eventually playing underground again. Bullshit.

  3. Costs can add up quick!

Have you done any remodeling yourself? Can you swing a hammer?

Do as much yourself as you can! It will save you some money plus get done they way you want. Get a commercial dumpster for a grand, get pizza and some beer, invite as many of your asshole friends that you can stand and at least do the gutting yourself. Not that difficult, and you can get an idea of what you may encounter for the remodel.

Never hurts to befriend a GC for advice, or some Home Depots have people working there that actually know some things or (eventhough they are not supposed too) they can steer you in the direction of a contractor that can help you out. Ours did, plus a couple of them helped me with the plumbing.

Again, price things out as cabinets, flooring (hardwoods, tile) can add up quick, along with how fancy you want your kitchen or baths to look.

Though you are doing this for yourself, always keep resell value in mind. Would others like it if you were to sell? Good Luck!

  4. Tuft and Needle through Amazon. $700 for a king, 100 night return policy, no questions asked. They don't even want the mattress back, just donate it to some charity like Goodwill. We got one for our pool/guest house last fall. Everyone who has slept on it loves it. Daughter (no pics) bought one for herself on Black friday for a couple hundred bucks off.

Yeah god forbid someone should get loud and have a good time at a Longhorn game.

This. Really makes me miss the old days with the Wild Bunch. Go to other school's parks and listen to their fans......the PC bullshit at the Disch has made it a morgue.

did a quick look on wikipedia, and if I am reading this correctly, this is the first fatal Thunderbirds crash since the infamous 4diamond crash in 1982 when the whole formation crashed into the ground, killing all 4 pilots during training

One of my senior NCOs (USAF) was the head of the advance team that went into the crash site to recover the bodies (or what was left).

  7. Ran into and talked with quite a few celebs in airports,... Danny Glover, Irv Cross, Lou Ferrigno. Met Tom Skerrit at the Sundance store in Seattle years ago.

Back when the Mariners sucked greatly and played in the Kingdome, my buddy and I went to see them during a midweek game when they were playing the Yankees. There was hardly anyone in attendance due to both teams sucking at the time. We sat in left so that we could heckle future hall of famer (showboat) Ricky Henderson.  He struck out the first inning but Dave Valle missed the 3rd strike pitch, so he was able to get to first. He then got caught stealing second and when he came out to left during the bottom of the 1st, it was on. We proceeded to jab at him the whole game and he would occasionally put his hand to his ear as if he couldn't hear us. He went 0-4 at bat for the game with a K and a caught stealing. It was perfect for heckling him. Bottom of the 8th, I guess he had enough as he put his left hand behind his back and flipped us off. We then told him that the number one he just gave us was one point higher than his batting avg. for the day. While he did not turn around, he did tip his cap at the remark.

Shortly after he was traded to the A's and had a career surge, he was on the cover of SI and had a huge article about him and his turn around with Oakland........In the article was him saying how he never listened to or heard the fans jeering him. We knew better.

Grew up with a fresh water pool in texas, don't have one now, but am considering it for the next house. Is it better to buy a house with the pool installed or build it after you purchase?

Price wise already there is cheaper , you never get your money back spent on pool when you sell the house , it adds some value but not much.

Of course build it yourself and you get what you want , but have to deal with your backyard being a mess for months .

Agree with Quag. Did our own and built like we wanted, but much like building a house, you have to be around to make sure it is done as you wanted and right.

Determine what us covered in your contract and MORE IMPORTANTLY, what is not. Most pool builders and their attorneys don't consider the skimmers part of the structure and where do most leaks occur? That's right, around the skimmers. Builders skimp on rebar around the skimmers and they slowly pull away from the structure and the weight cracks the skimmer boxes or the plumbing around them which is also not included in the warranty. Yes, I have had to deal with these exact issues. Even with the hassle of having to learn this first hand, still love the pool and being able to swim/cool off without the hassle of going somewhere else besides my back yard.
