  1. And no Ann Margret either..... 😧
  2. Buddy of mine and I were at his last start/game at the Kingdome in '93. Day game on a Wednesday (happened to be the wife's Bday) and our seats were just down the line by the Rangers/visitor's bullpen ( it was on the field between the foul line and the first row of seats). Like all the guys say in the movie trailer,.... "ssssssssssss POP!" That's what you heard from 25' ft away and just a few rows up. Had to be scary in the box against him. After facing just a few batters in the first, and feeling a pop against Dave Magadan (leading NCAA hitter in '83 on Bama's runner up team to the HORNS), that was the last batter he ever faced. Kingdome crowd (40k +) did Nolan right and gave him a standing O as he left the field.
  3. I thought the phrase was...."Whether your destination is heaven or hell, you have to change planes in Atlanta." ?? 😇
  4. Better spies for the Allies (or those Axis spies caught by the allies and then turned), plus the paranoia and the absolute authority from the idiot corporal that ran the German forces. I didn't know it but just saw that Amazon might still have the story "Garbo The Spy" available. to buy but for some reason, not watch thru Prime. Documentary of Juan Pujol Garcia, a Spaniard better known as codename Garbo. Throughout the years many have questioned Hitler's decisions or definitely the delaying of the Panzer divisions from getting onto or near the beaches in Normandy on D Day and the following days. You can thank the double agent Juan... I've seen many documentaries or read about Hitler sleeping in or the his staff not wanting to waken him on June 6th, it's because he trusted "Garbo" so much. MI5 had given him enough true intelligence in the years prior that Hitler had the upmost confidence in him and, he had sent an intel message to Hitler that the landings in Normandy were a feint, with the "real' landings to come at Pas de Calais as they had been thinking, and thus be ready for America's best field General, Patton and his fake 1st Army. He was so highly thought of by the British and (not realizing he was a double agent) the Germans, that he is probably one of the only, if not him alone, to be a recipient of the Member of his Most Excellent Order of the British Empire and also the Iron Cross from the Germans.
  5. Nothing wrong with getting another Dirtbag here...🤘
  6. Alright!! Gotta think his idol and mentor Tulo had a hand in this. Hoping for the best for him. 🤘
  7. OK, Kim just leaving....(not in prison, dead, or Lalo's girlfriend) wasn't on the Bingo card.
  8. Vitello talking about what a great guy he is.....didn't show that in games I saw him play. Would love to be at the game the first time someone plunks him in the minors.
  9. He's a regular at the Lodge in RR.
  10. Johnny Mize with the NY Giants should be another. missed that HG already named him.
  11. Cobb had 46 INSIDE THE PARK HRs....117 total.
  12. Guys are posting too fast. Derrek Lee and Jermaine Dye, Nelson Cruz.
  13. Got maybe a 1/2" or more (my rain gauge is broken) over the last hr in Henly....Chance for more if this storm coming up 281 in the Blanco area, if it moves just a bit east. Oh, and the temp is a very pleasant 76 right now.
  14. He's better than good with philanthropy also. Whether helping individual people out on his movie sets, deferring his personal payment for the success of movies or projects, or donating his own money to further his charitable organizations. I wouldn't mind having a beer 🍻 with him too.
  15. @Valmy77 pretty much covered it. He was very deliberate in everything he did. The balk move with a runner on third was probably the best. I'm not sure how many times I saw that with my Dad when we would go to games as I was growing up. Definitely was used (and worked quite a bit) against teams that didn't regularly play us. Different story but my Dad had known Gus since his days at South San. My Grandad was on the school board there and helped to get him hired . One of my Uncles (Dad's 2nd brother) played catcher for him there and should have been on one of his state championship teams but he decided not to play his senior yr. He would not tell my granddad when their games were cuz granddad would always be riding the umpires, especially the one behind the plate. Dad said Gus still had some of his same signs for hitting or taking at Texas as the ones he used for South San. He would go through the motions and hand signs, but really all you had to do was look at his face. If he was looking at you, you were taking until you got a strike. If he was giving a sign and not looking at you, ....free to hit away. My Dad and BIL went to a lot of games once he married my sis in the early 90's after they graduated. I was living out of state and so obviously wasn't there. After my dad passed this last December, my BIL told me the story about them going to games together and my Dad would always try and say Hi to Gus no matter when they got to the game. My BIL was always embarrassed as he thought my dad was just kinda stalking Gus. Gus did acknowledge Dad though. Anyway, fast forward about 20 years, so probably around 2010 or later and they are going to some type of alumni event and of course a lot of who's who for Texas Athletics are there including Gus. My BIL is shocked when Gus comes over to their table and says to my dad and mom "Hello Mickie, Hey Tom, glad ya'll are here"...
  16. So tense. I think the heat is getting to everybody...😎
  17. Yep, unfortunately. I didn't understand it growing up, but do more so now as I lived out of state for many years ( with much colder lake waters). My dad had property just off the water at Canyon while we were growing up but we hardly went there mainly due to the water ALWAYS colder (Guadalupe fed), and my grandparents having a place in Granite Shoals on LBJ. We were ALWAYS on or in the water too, and definitely got a safety brief from Dad, an Uncle, or Grandad before going out on the water. Understanding more about cold water drownings now ( I worked public safety stuff for 34 years, plus being a diver), Canyon (seems to me) to get more due to the colder water temps, + mixed with alcohol being on board the victim. While living up in the PNW, we saw lake drownings in the middle of summer with temps in the 80's, but with colder lake water around 68-72 plus alcohol on the boat or at the campground, just meant some very healthy teenager or 20 something was ripe to become a victim just going for a "short" swim. Guys cramp up or get tired out quicker, and slip under without so much as a peep. Silent drowning. Travis gets plenty of these too, as I went on calls there quite a bit also after moving back here.
  18. Yea, not a spring water lake. Surprised they didn't have you go to San Marcos and do it there. A good friend of mine was on a dive recovery team during high school and I still remember him telling me about the first time he found a body in Canyon Lake below the dam (where people then and still now, drown all the time). He said it scared the shit out him as they were down about 35' -40' with really poor vis, and all of a sudden the dude's face suddenly filled up his view in his mask.
  19. Funny story.....(sounds like Dazed and Confused and 16 Candles mixed together). We used to go the the lake all the time, but it was just to drink beer and jump off the spillway overflow tower. The 'lake" was never as bad with Water mocs as the Cibolo in the middle of town. Much more snakes jumping off the dam there in town than at any time we ever swam out at he lake. Pic below is from when they first filled the reservoir in '80. (The cops came out later and drove up on the dam, but we were gone by then). Not a good camera perspective as the tower is above the water at this time by about 25 ft., as the lake wasn't full yet.
  20. On Netflix ....Operation Mincemeat (true story). The deception (corpse with fake documents washes up in Spain) of attacking Greece instead of Sicily during WWII. Nice side note of a young British Lieutenant that helps with the ruse and story telling is Ian Fleming. https://www.imdb.com/video/vi1957347865/?ref_=tt_vi_i_2
  21. No. The hate for us is that we are successful over the long haul and do it with class. We were even copied this year by a few teams (rivals) of not dog piling before Omaha. Tennessee's hate is due to them taking on the personality of their coach. And Vitello ( while successful right now), is an Asshole. That demeanor won't fly here and it shouldn't.
  22. That was my cousin, not me. 1976 ? ish.... he was definitely around 6'2- 6'3 and definitely under 130 lbs. If he turned sideways and stuck his tongue out, his shadow looked like a zipper. Super skinny dude until he was able to put some weight on in the Army. Still thin today though. Got in and was later recruited by SF due to his smarts. Passed Q course and was later a part of a detail for Al Gore's advance team.
  23. Call of Duty is different and has no weight/height parameters?
