My Dad tells the story of going to pick up a date in the late 50s and right when her father - a WWII infantryman - opened the door, a car backfired in the street.  Before my Dad knew what was going on, the girls father had hit the deck, then jumped up and was brushing himself off and asking my Dad into the house.  It was a survival response that carried over into the real world.  PTSD is real.

In August, 1966, less than a week after Charles Whitman’s Tower massacre, while going back to my apartment after a summer class I turned the corner in front of the old Varsity Theater (now a CVS & Wells Fargo) on the Drag to walk westward on 24th.
About halfway down the block there was an extremely loud & sharp “bang” like a gunshot, and I dropped to the sidewalk as did two other guys not far in front of me.

It was a scary moment before we got up to realize what happened - the Castilian dorm building was under construction and the massive work crane alongside it apparently had lost a load when the cable snapped and dropped it several stories.
There was a good size cloud of dust billowing above the plywood barrier fence by the construction site and some workers were shouting. Luckily nobody was hurt in the accident.
I and the other jittery pedestrians dusted ourselves off to resume our journey back to West Campus.

I'm fully aware that the admin's policy is that it won't go on offense with Israel. I also fully disagree with your interpretation that this means we're not interested in deterring Iran, that we can't work in conjunction with Israel in that deterrence, or that our support for their defense is "tepid."

I agree, and that Bolton should stfu. The US should stay out of any military offensive measures to respond to Iran’s attack.

But we should realize this quote is incorrect:

The official added that the Biden administration believes Israel "got the best of it" in the exchange, which began when senior Iranian military commanders were killed at an Iranian consular building in Syria.

It did not begin with the bombing of the Iranian consulate building.
I believe that was just a part of  Israel’s ongoing eradication of the Iranian terrorist enablers/supporters/suppliers who helped orchestrate The October 7th massacre.
But Israel erred with their technically illegal attack on the consulate. They should’ve taken out those Iranians in a non-diplomatic location.
Much like the ATF could have arrested Vernon Howell anytime he was away from the Branch Davidian compound,  and avoided the inevitable blowback.

  3. I already understood Israel attacked the Iranian consulate/embassy and that Iran had the right to respond.

However, restraint on “our part” means nothing to the radical Islamists running that country.
They are guilty of mass murder and are sneering at the West’s weakness just like Putin is.

  4. Sherrill’s “success” was based on cheating, which of course violated the aggy “honor code” - whatever those goobers call it.
They don’t care, and never seem to remember the shame of being sanctioned with post-season bowl bans TWICE..

Even Kurt Bohls in today’s AAS panders to that cheating SOB by not mentioning the disgrace Sherrill brought to aggy land (and MSU afterwards). Allowing that dirtbag in the Texas Hall of Fame is a shame and those who promoted it should be kicked out of the selection committee .

Four Texas exes were set to be inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, with the class being highlighted by Longhorn football greats Jamaal Charles and Colt McCoy. Former track and field coach Bubba Thornton and former softball pitcher Christa Williams rounded out the UT honorees.

Other inductees in the 2024 class were National Baseball Hall of Famer Andy Cooper, Texas Baseball Hall of Fame (2006) and Houston Astros Hall of Fame (2021) inductee 'Judge' Roy Hofheinz, former Prairie View A& M track and field coach Barbara Jacket, former Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach and former Texas A& M football coach Jackie Sherrill.

    Jackie Sherrill?
Who in their right mind would want that cheating SOB in the venerable HoF?
