Well the decision to put out the pictures and I could be wrong is what caused his father to notice and he confronted his son and the son confessed. I think it happened that way and if wrong sorry. They were successful in finding someone who went out of his way to disguise himself but was so immature didn’t think there were cameras everywhere, left prints everywhere and so on, so LE did do their job bc it required getting tips from the public and disseminating those images. I don’t feel LE failed or anything and without cameras I have no idea how long it would have taken. But stranger crimes are the hardest to solve, or at least the world I haunt. Just fascinated by true crime. People will of course find double meaning in this, but this was a success. And it was a good strategy to reveal the pictures. Without them would they have been able to solve it as quickly? Not sure. How would they have tracked this individual without cameras? Everywhere? Maybe touch DNA from something he touched if the prints came up empty and gone the genealogy route? Best guess.
