College Hoops 2024-25
This fuckin' close to Top 5 wins already this season. I really like this team. They're never going to be an elite half court offense, and at the end of the day that's probably what keeps us from a Final 4/title, but they'll win a lot of games along the way.

Fox is taking a fair amount of Big 12 hoops inventory next year. I think they're planning on Saturday big Fox games too. I would expect to see the Big 12/Big East challenge be much more Fox forward next year. This year was an awkward spot.

I don't understand why the Big 12/Big East challenge isn't exclusively in Fox windows, as Fox has a partnership with both leagues. ESPN doesn't have any Big East deal, so of course they're going to push it behind an SEC/ACC game where both leagues involved are partners.

You're probably right. This should be a mutually beneficial thing, but ESPN is almost gleeful in their attempts to sabotage Big 12 football, and they've been doing it for decades. I realize that if ESPN has all the playoff windows, it would be a huge risk for the Big 12 as well. I'm just really baffled at ESPN's coverage at this point. I don't expect SEC treatment, but shit, ACC treatment would work. If Turner really wants to plant their flag in college hoops, taking Big Monday to TBS might be a legitimate option.

Yormark and the member schools know what they are, what they have to offer, and have positioned themselves accordingly. It's an entertaining league that lacks high end brand power but has about 12-14 fairly invested decent sized fanbases that will tune in to most games. It also has very few truly awful teams, so the average league game is more competitive than the average SEC, Big 10, or ACC game which all have some blue blood vs some cream puff every weekend. With the Big 10 heavily partnering with NBC and CBS in addition to Fox, it opened a lot of windows in the Fox family, and the two parties have found what seems to be a sustainable price for those slots. I'm hoping the Turner collab works well and the Big 12 can transition away from ESPN entirely eventually (assuming other entities get in on the playoffs). They're openly at war with the league at this point.

I think this would be a great move also in terms of making teams excited to play them. That extra game in town is a huge deal to the economies of college towns, and a cool reward for first place. Atmosphere would be better nearly without exception too.

The massive conferences/realignment have given us what appears to be a slate of compelling and even matchups across the board. I heard yesterday that every CCG is a 4.5 point or less spread. When you don't play every one in the league, the game is an entertaining way to determine a winner. I guess it was an entertaining way to determine a winner when everyone DID play each other, it was just utterly pointless. It's sports. Sports are fun. Why have less? The amount of "meaning" a game has is ultimately a somewhat arbitrary decision that we as fans collectively arrive upon. Bowl games have ALWAYS been exhibition games that don't really matter in the context of determining who the best of anything is. They didn't just become meaningless - they never really meant anything. Talking heads have been crying about meaningless bowls for 20 years and then one day players woke up and agreed. As soon as that happened, fans followed suit. I doesn't mean I'm not entertained by watching a bunch of backups try and kill each other in Mobile at 4:30 PM Central on a Tuesday.- Left Behind: A Quick Dose Of Post Big 12 Reality

We'll bring 35-40K would be my guess. If ASU matched us (they won't) and you pick up 20K randos (I think that's normal for CCGs) you'd be close to full. I expect it to be about 75% full. I think you'd need both participants to be within a 10-12 hour drive to realistically sell it out. Arrowhead would make more sense from a capacity standpoint, but less sense from a weather stand point.- Left Behind: A Quick Dose Of Post Big 12 Reality

I'm flying in early Saturday AM (have an obligation I can't skip Friday night) and that flight went from $150 on Saturday afternoon to $400 when BYU's score went final (which is when I booked lest I jinxed it). And that's out of Minneapolis. I can't imagine what it is out of Des Moines, or the caravan that will be headed down I-35. Plane leaves Minneapolis at 6AM, and you're got damn right I'm going to be drinking the little traveler bottles.- Left Behind: A Quick Dose Of Post Big 12 Reality
Malzahn leaving UCF was like when Greg McDermott left ISU for Creighton when they were still in the MVC. It wasn't working, everyone knew it, and he was getting out before anyone else had to make an uncomfortable decision. In no world is this a referendum on the UCF HC job vs the FSU OC job.- 2024 Random Games thread
Appreciate the recs. One of my best friends from ISU lives in Plano and is picking me up at the airport, and I assume we'll be going back to his place after, so I guess we'll see where that leaves things.- 2024 Random Games thread

I think I’m raising a squirrel. She just ran behind the garage bar and emerged with a cracker of the type we had been eating in here Sunday. Obviously she stashed it somewhere and retrieved for later snacking.- Left Behind: A Quick Dose Of Post Big 12 Reality
How different is this conversation if the ACC is beating each other up and the Big 12 has a bunch of 1 loss teams? Maybe it looks the same, but I’m guessing it’s flipped. - Thing$ $till not going well for Joe Rogan, I $ee.
