Not what I said at all. We can, and should have relations with every country. We can and should not dictate how they run themselves. We have a strong relationship with the extremely autocratic Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, yet we can't have normalized relations with Venezuela. Why not? It's hypocritical and actually undermines our soft power with nations outside the West and fucks with the global economy all at once!

Are you of the belief both of these countries are exactly equal and have the same leverage to push back against policies we try to place upon them? Like, I can scold my child if they’re acting up at the grocery store, but I’m not going to tell Conor McGregor to stop eating grapes in the produce section

  2. Taking all the history out of it (I know, I know) and looking at it like a street fight, I see it kinda like this:

First punch: Israel attacked something that should’ve been off limits, but took out several high ranking targets. Exactly what they intended to accomplish.

Second: Iran shit the bed in response. Who knows what their actual intention was here.

Third: Israel just chuckles, waives their hand dismissively, and walks away.

How would you score that match?

The numbers of battle tanks was too small, surely. But so was the ability to support and fuel those tanks.  It's not just "a tank" it's an entire sustainment system that needs to operate in support of that tank. I saw an assessment that the average life span of a tank engaged in active combat is two weeks. If that is even close to correct, tanks are not the key to winning the battle.

How bout this. What if we fully committed our military into Ukraine? Do you know how fast we would have all those support systems in place? Do you know how fast we would have air supremacy? How fast we would break through those mine fields and defensive lines?

The answer to all of those questions is “really fucking fast.” Unless you believe the US military couldn’t beat this garage Russian army, stop claiming that we gave them everything they needed.

Almost two years ago, the guy I was sitting next to got tasked to go to DC to participate in the planning for Ukraine's summer offensive. That was our plan they executed last summer, and it didn't work.

A lot of your other points have been addressed, but I didn’t see this one talked about.

A plan was made two years ago, equipment was provided for that plan (I would argue it was the bare minimum, but that’s not the point I’m making here). Said plan was then implemented well over a year later once the battle field had drastically changed. Of course it didn’t have as much success as envisioned. Arguing that we gave them everything they needed and it didn’t work is only a defensible argument if a) the plan had been executed immediately, or b) if the battlefield conditions had been the same as when the plan had been developed.

One of the pluses to staying/fishing at Hackberry Lodge south of Lake Charles is the fresh shrimp they sell at the lodge.  I’m sure other lodges in Louisiana sell shrimp as well.  They said the shrimp were not from the large commercial shrimpers that stay offshore for a week or so at a time and flash freeze the shrimp, but from local bay shrimpers.  Either way, the shrimp are fantastic.  When I used to go offshore on chartered trips from Freeport a favorite thing was to trade a case or two of beer for a sack of shrimp from the offshore shrimpers.  Not sure if that shrimp was ever frozen but it was fantastic.  I agree with the OP-never buy farm raised shrimp.

This is the way to go. Pull up to a shrimp boat and make a trade. A case or two of beer for a giant bag of fresh shrimp is a hell of a deal

^^ Fair enough. Yes, they only show when you read an article, but since they open in the app, ad blockers that would work if I opened that same article through a browser don't get blocked. I assume that's because they're now "in-app" ads? Despite owning a tech company, I'm not particularly good with most tech. Apologies if my phrasing or assumptions are dumb.

@immamac Any suggestions here? I can also just wait until the next time you drunk dial me if my question doesn’t make sense

Got my Wilco appraisal. Went from 450k to 500k. Not sure whether to be annoyed that it went up that much or grateful that it’s at least 50k under market value. A pretty similar house just went for 600k.

Nice humblebrag. My pool house is only appraised at $400k.

I was actually thinking, in my reply to @Samson's Wig, that maybe one solution would be more partnerships with AISD that would allow ACC to be on high school campuses for AP or introductory college classes (and maybe AISD could save on labor) but I bet they do that already or the savings just doesn’t move the overall needle by much.

If someone were creative enough, I bet there’s a way to make that a condition for all the funds they get. Sort of a loophole to funnel money through ACC, but then they spend it to build/rebuild/remodel/etc any high school campuses where they offer instruction.

  9. Finally getting around to exploring the app, and I really like the concept of it. Tons of content that interests me, but holy hell there are so many ads! Pop up ads at the top, pop up ads at the bottom, constant ads embedded in the articles as you scroll down. I understand that's how y'all make money, but gotdamn, it's mildly infuriating. I know there are several apps that block ads on webpages, but is there an in-app adblocker for IOS (specifically one that wasn't developed in China or Russia)? I've tried a few but haven't had any success.

Pretty sure she made both payments from the clicks off this page alone. Rubes. Pussy and the internet are undefeated. Go back to Facebook.

The whole thing might be fake, but in another video she mentions at least one of the cars being repo’d. Also, that video is very misleading. She’s far less attractive than she looks there (which I will say is, at best, trashy-cute). In most other videos, I’d call her frumpy-trash.

I called my parents and they're safe. They live NW of Taipei so the epicenter was further away.

My mom said it was pretty scary - their highrise apartment building was swaying pretty hard, and the structure was "moaning".  The electricity is still on and and water is still running, so their lives aren't really disrupted. They just need to deal with the after shocks for the next few days.

My dad's a heavy sleeper, and usually wakes up late, but he woke up from the shaking. I've woken up to a small earthquake, and it is the weirdest feeling. You're still tired, can't really comprehend what's happening except your bed is moving back and forth. It's a really weird feeling.

I think I’d have a real hard time staying in a high rise that I just heard the structure moaning. Logically, if it survived the quake, it’s probably built for that, but all I’d be thinking is that there’s a crack someone and the next aftershock will be what breaks the camel’s back so to speak

Is it though? The land they’re taking at this point is worse than undeveloped. All infrastructure is destroyed and left in ruin. There’s unexploded ordnance, mines and chemicals in all the fields and forests… the next (or first?) great leader of Russia will be the person that focuses on internal development: educating the population, raising standard of living (you know, luxuries like flushing toilets outside of Moscow and St Pete), and increasing GDP. Make it a first world nation. How does someone as intelligent as Putin look at his country and decide what will make people remember him is increasing the land area by a couple percent? The 500k men that have been killed or disabled in this war could have been improving infrastructure in that shit hole of a country.

There’s a substantial portion of Ukraine that has not be leveled. Not that their loss is any less significant re: human suffering, but the towns that have been destroyed aren’t the economic objectives of taking the country as a whole. And unexploded ordinance etc? They can just skip past those territories if they took everything to the west

ETA: I’m really only talking about initial goals. At this point the calculus is different because it appears exceptionally unlikely they could take those areas to the west without resorting to the same destructive measures

  13. As with the dead battery, I'd also consider that a recycling win. I've finally trained her, but for many years she would just stuff big boxes like that in the bin. Back then, I considered it a good day if she hadn't also poured a bunch of loose items on top before I had to pull em out to break them down.

  14. Does it seem to anyone else that straws are harder to open these days? Back in the day, you'd just grab it, bump it on a hard surface, and the top would pop out. Now, it seems like half the time I do that, the straw just bends. I couldn't even get one open this morning and had to grab the paper edge and peel it off. Fucking ridiculous.
