  1. I debated a Ben Stein gif to accompany the post, but deferred. Thank you for picking up my slack.
  2. Awesome thread about a bunch of awesome Dads. My Dad is still living and making memories with us. One thing about my Dad is that he is big joker, and nearly every joke starts off as a serious story that eventually goes off the rails. He's polished this type of delivery into a fine art. It's such a common schtick though, that he can no longer pull it off with family members, as they immediately sense that there is a punchline coming. It's no surprise that my Dad is very outgoing and gregarious. In my opinion, he is continually on a search for an unsuspecting audience. Growing up, I though my Dad was the funniest person on the planet. He had a funny song for nearly any situation. It wasn't until I was in my 20's and actually heard a Smothers Brothers album that I realized my Dad had stolen every single bit from them.
  3. Peace to you and yours, Brisket. Wonderful tribute.
  4. Congress bailed on the power to implement tariffs after the massive Smoot-Hawley fuck-up in the 1930s. They then passed laws allowing the Executive branch to levy tariffs under the justification that it could do so more dynamically than Congress. Of course, that all supposed an Executive branch that was respective of history and the general norms of international trade. Congress could take back the authority any time it wants, but this Congress absolutely will not.
  5. In practice, the domestic importer pays the tax, not the foreign exporter. The tariff costs are ultimately passed to domestic consumers. Tariffs MAY hurt foreign exporters by making their goods more expensive and reducing demand and lowering trade volumes. Not only do foreign goods become more expensive, but there is inflationary pressure on prices from domestic producers as they can now charge higher prices since foreign competitors are forced to charge higher prices to cover tariffs. In all scenarios, consumers lose. Targeted countries will undoubtedly levy retaliatory tariffs, which makes them ultimately self-defeating.
  6. So Prime is releasing a new series next month based on the story of King David called "House of David." If it sticks to scripture, it has the potential to be as violent and salacious as anything HBO has ever put out.
  7. Well, we'll all probably die in the next four years, so...
  8. Yep… I’m stuck on FSD 12.5 because I have hardware 3. Will have to get a hardware upgrade to get the newer versions. Will be no cost to me, but will have to wait until it’s available. Who knows when that will be.
  9. You stipulate in your response that they were at one point stranded. Until this whole situation is resolved, they are in the public consciousness "stranded astronauts." I agree with everything in your reply except the classification of the term "stranded" as fear-mongering. It's not an emergency situation, but it is most certainly not business as usual. All that said... it is utter bullshit that Trump and Musk are stepping up and trying to present themselves as saviors for spearheading some "new" effort to "rescue" them, as if a solid plan for the astronauts' return hasn't been in place for months. That is 100% kayfabe.
  10. I fail to see how anything I have posted in this part of the discussion could warrant this response. Sounds like you might have some sort of fixation.
  11. They could. And it would cause a cascade of impacts to operations on the ISS. Here are the facts of the situation: 1. The Boeing test crew was unable to return as scheduled. 2. Future plans were modified to allow them to return while still allowing routine operations on ISS. 4. Crew 9 was delayed a month and went up with two members instead of four so that the Boeing test crew could return with them when they are relieved by Crew 10. 5. Crew 10 has been delayed from a February launch until late March at the earliest. So the Boeing test crew was initially stuck/stranded on the ISS due to technical issues with their return capsule. Then they were "stuck" on the ISS due to manning shortfalls that stemmed from plan modifications to allow them to return. Now they are "stuck" longer as their relief mission is delayed. Saying that they could come home tomorrow is impractical bullshit. It's NASA copium. That is not at all what I said. But the fact is that NASA under the Biden administration made the call to use scheduled SpaceX flights to "save the day."
  12. It was originally scheduled to return in February and has been delayed until March "at the earliest." I think we are all confident that these astronauts will make home safely in the relatively near future, but we don't have to pretend that this situation is super duper routine and NBD.
  13. I'm not trying to be a dick, but answering a stretched truth with another stretched truth doesn't solve anything or help anyone. Trump is not ordering a new effort. Trump's kayfabe is that he is riding in to "save the day", when in fact the very thing that he is proposing (SpaceX flight to retrieve them) has been in planning and execution since at least August. NASA's claim that the astronauts are "not stranded" is nearly as bad. It's bullshit semantics. The astronauts were supposed to be home nearly 8 months ago. It's perfectly fine to say that these astronauts are not abandoned, and it's perfectly fine for NASA to frame it internally that these astronauts are not stranded. But to communicate that publicly diminishes the organization. It's just spin.
  14. Completely agree. It was a mutually beneficial extension. As things played out, the Astros extracted significant value out of that contract. That's what I mean by "gave." From strictly a $$$/WAR perspective, Bregs gave the organization more than it paid for.
  15. Man… y’all some ungrateful assholes turning on Bregs like this. He’s a top tier Astro player in Astro history, simply for being a key element of both WS winning seasons. Don’t try to wedge in every lovable Astro ahead of him. Put some respeck on the man’s name. What’s happening now is just business. He already gave the organization a discount on some of his prime seasons once.
  16. You got the wrong guy, my dude. I'm on your side.
  17. I was told that no one would suggest that I sell my Tesla to prove I am not a nazi supporter, and also that I was being defensive and distracting for suggesting that people were saying that.
  18. I have neither the time nor inclination to find a screen cap of the exact same thing happening to a KC receiver without it being flagged.
  19. They ain't doing it for KC. And they aren't doing it specifically because they like Mahomes. They ARE being super ticky-tacky when it comes to protecting one of the biggest stars in the game who coincidentally has about half a billion invested in him. As far as the spots... that shit happens for home teams all of the time. It is a documented, data-driven fact that referees fudge close calls in the home team's favor across all levels of all sports.
