  1. The perfect timing of seeing my 3rd grade daughter arrive at school safely (while dropping off the kindergartener) after letting her ride her bike to school with a friend for the first time with no adults. She was so happy and excited.
  2. Brewing today for the first time since summer while the kids are at school. I'm making a ~6% citra-cascade pale ale on the back porch, watching the train go by, and listening to the Grateful Dead. I worked the last 10 days, so this is a nice day off. Hope it's a good batch!
  3. That is the one. I’ll have to check that out because the SBD is phenomenal. The Bertha, Mr. Charlie, Cumberland, & Brokedown that proceed it are all some of my favorite versions too. There are almost no keys on it and the other four are so locked in you don’t miss them at all. Unique sound for them.
  4. The Road Trips Summer 71 is really good too and the bonus disc has a Hard to Handle that rivals the badass one from the Fillmore East run.
  5. No shit. I am pretty sure my wife keeps a running tally in her head of all the things she has done and all the things I didn’t do. She uses this info to tell me why it is my turn to take care of literally anything. The things I take care of don’t count for shit because they are already done.
  6. Think i’ll join this year. I have been between 220 and 230 for years and my sugars and A1C are trending towards diabeetus. I haven’t gotten diet and exercise changes to stick in the past, but this is my year. I am 42 and need to for my daughters (6&8, no pics).
  7. When I'm watching a game and a good "Bullshit" chant makes it through to the broadcast. I'm in my 40s now and this is a carryover from when I was a kid.
  8. A girl I work with, who is somebody’s wife, recently checked out the audiobook “What Happened” by Hillary Clinton from the library. When she started it, she was disappointed because she thought she had checked out “What Happened Hillary Clinton?” by literally any other author. In fairness, i’d rather read the second book too.
  9. I am really excited about the Dark Star from 1/2/70. I’ve caught it from Sirius and it has a really nice jam similar to the one on dick’s picks 2. (Team 72-74 here, but I listen to it all depending on my mood)
  10. Awesome trivia. My grandpa, who passed ~20 years ago, used to say this all the time and I never knew where it came from. He had hundreds of sayings like this and I figured he picked most of them up in the navy during WW2 (Sea Bee in the pacific).
  11. These are amazing. They changed them recently. You don’t have to proof them overnight. Just throw them in frozen. They need to bake ~10 min longer but you’re not screwed if you forget to take them out the night before. Better than any bakery’s croissants.
  12. My wife takes a notarized letter when she and the kids head up to Canada ahead of me every summer and she says she has usually, but not always, been asked for the letter. I’d take one to avoid a hassle.

    Vinyl

I love my P2. I run it through a Denon. It sounds great and I haven’t adjusted anything on it since I took it out if the box 10 years ago (which is great because I am lazy). My brother has a music hall and an audio-technica and both skip way more and he is always having to calibrate them.
  14. I live in Crestview and drive by this house. I enjoy seeing them, but can understand the annoyance at them being on all night. She really should put them on a timer and turn them off from midnight to 6am or whatever. But I love that my neighborhood has shit like this and no one can say a thing to stop it. Really love the old Minimax sign on St John or Cullen. All in all, I bet more people are annoyed that he put 2 units on one lot than are annoyed by her neon lights, but both are allowed. I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t give a shit about the neghbor’s views of his project when he was building it, so fuck him.
  15. I found Jim Reeves' album on vinyl a few years ago and it is great. My dad played the shit out of it every year. Here a couple of gems from it that don't appear on almost any other album (the first is a little racist, but so good!) and my his merry christmas polka is just amazing. My kids are obsessed with it:
  16. My 8 year old daughter loved his hair when she saw it after the game. Said he looked like Pippi Longstocking. High praise.
  17. it was on the edge/off the edge of the screen. hager was on his back and the sooner jumped on him and once on him, picked him up and slammed his head down. flag came from across the field while the ref staring at it did nothing. at the very least offsetting. complete bullshit.
  18. And 9/21/73 would have been perfect. One of my most worn-out tapes in college. The Other One has a top 5 (for me) all-time jam in it.
  19. Too late for the porch, but the Wall of Sound 74(6/16&18) & Summer 71 (early August ?) Road Trips releases are both great and in a compilation on Spotify. The 71 one is interesting because outside of singing a few songs (incl. a great Mr Charlie), Pigpen’s organ is hardly used (or audible) and Keith hasn’t joined yet so it is pretty much a quartet and they are so ‘on’ I don’t miss the keys even a little.
  20. We are flying to Liberia today. Does anyone know of a place to watch the Horns in the Tamarindo area? My in-laws rented a house for my wife’s whole family a little south of there in Hacienda Pinilla near the JW Marriott for the week (couldn’t find the brag about the family/holidays thread). Most of this thread seems focused further south. Any Guanacaste recommendations?
  21. Such a great Dark Star. It’s my go to when I have 36 minutes to listen to something.
  22. I was stunned at the turn of events at first and was pretty much speechless. Then I thought about Costa Rica and their summer cottage on the ocean in Nova Scotia. It was an investment. My in-laws are pretty awesome compared to the ones in the holiday thread.
  23. And this was probably the fourth time in the past two years she has showed her mom that pic, but the process repeats every time we watch a game with them like it never happened before.
  24. With 35 seconds left in the game last night, my wife paused it so she could show her mom the pics of Ehlinger as a kid. Then they had to look at current pics so they could see if he’s still cute (he is). The really aggravating part is they were talking and not paying attention and had no idea it was tied until the final drive was already underway. I sat quietly pissed off staring at the screen for 2&1/2 minutes because if I said anything it surely would have had tone. No need to piss off my wife and mother-in-law a week before we go to Costa Rica on my inlaws’ dime.
