  1. I know, right? Right now I am watching a recording of a stream she did in the mountains in Colorado somewhere (Hardscrabble Mountain). Weather Report Suite is up. So pretty. She has a ton of stuff on Spotify. Since I am a huge Phish fan too, her style of alternating songs between the two bands works great for me.
  2. I am writing up my last paper for the class I am taking and listening to Holly Bowling’s piano versions of Dead and Phish songs. Here is an Eyes of the World where she plays the end jam of the 6/18/74 version. Jerry with her right hand, Phil with her left. Wow!
  3. The 10/29/77 Dekalb version that was on a Dave’s pick last year is great. The whole show smokes and I think it is considered one of the best shows of 77. Worth a listen.
  4. Grateful Dead- one of the Acid Tests in April 1970, there was a run of shows at the Fillmore West where Miles Davis, just having released Bitches Brew, opened for the Dead. The Black Beauty recording is from one of these. also GD, one show each year in 72, 73, 74, 77, and 89. Part of the fun is being surprised by what they play and they were consistently great during each of these years. Phish-12/31/95 at MSG, The Great Went and MSG New year’s run (both in 97), and the Drums Logos show in Fukuoka, Japan in 2000 The Who - Live at Leeds. i know it is too many, so if I had to choose one it would be an Acid Test.
  5. Such a great word. My kids think it perfectly describes me when I listen to the best band ever!
  6. For me, the 2001 Big 12 Championship game was just as big a kick in the nuts as UCLA 97 or the OU blowouts. I was certain we were going to curbstomp CU. I was also drunk as fuck and have never put on a worse display of behavior at a game. I still wish I could apologize to anyone with kids sitting near me for that one.
  7. That is probably the thinking behind using the big chain drug stores. Also, they are whores for anything that will increase their volumes and are more than willing to abuse their staff to make it happen. My boss told us some absurd statistic like 95% of the public lives within 10 or 20 miles of a Walgreens or CVS (my numbers are surely off, but the number was eye raising) .
  8. If this is repeat info, please ignore. This is what I have heard through my job, so it might be more applicable to getting it to our nursing homes than the general public. Pfizer has developed a special shipping container for distribution. There is dry ice inside that needs to be replenished every 5 (maybe 3) days. Then when you are ready to give it is good for a few more days at more easily obtained temps. A large portion of the distribution and administration is going to be through CVS and Walgreens. I have been seeing lots of job listings for temporary immunization pharmacists at both of those so this seems to be happening. The nursing homes we serve are going to have to sign up with one of them to get their residents vaccinated since my company won’t be doing it. Also, according to the regulations, the actual person who administers the vaccine has to fill out about 3 pages of documentation for each dose given. This will limit the number of doses each person can administer. As of right now, I hear I will probably be eligible to get it in phase 1. I also saw they haven’t finalized exactly who will be eligible in each phase yet, so who knows. As a pharmacist, I am only considered a health care worker sometimes. I am sure the limited roll out is partly to get the logistics figured out before expanding it to the bulk of the population. It will be a shit show at the beginning.
  9. Don’t get me wrong, that version of this song is one of my favorite performances they ever did. For me it is the highlight of an all time great show. My favorite part is in the middle of the jam when Keith just starts playing chords and holding them. The groove they develop around it sounds simple and effortless and has a different feel than it usually has. I love Keith during the S>F transition too. He was on another level that month.
  10. She got box-back titties And great big noble thighs Working undercover with a boar hog’s eye I was watching the Amazon doc with subtitles turned on when they had an old clip of Pigpen doing Lovelight. I have always loved this part of the song and never knew what he was singing until the subtitles sorted it out for me. edit: I did a little internetting and it seems lots of folks say he says box-back nitties. There is an old lightning Hopkins interview out there with most of the above lyrics in it (incl. nitties). However, the subtitles said titties so that is what I am going with.
  11. My wife and kids are up at Old Settlers park to see our nieces run in the state cross country meet today. It was 1A and 3A this morning and she said there are a ton of folks not wearing masks. Fucking people can’t put on a mask at a gathering of people from all over the state. I can’t say I am surprised. I know outdoors is less risky, but it shouldn’t be that hard to be considerate of others that are worried about this.
  12. From the pharmacist perspective, I hope you were pissed off at your insurance for not offering your independent pharmacy a contract at a rate that they could at least break even with. The lack of knowledge around how badly the PBMs are screwing over both independent pharmacies and the general public is infuriating. It should be a huge scandal, but no one cares because it is so complicated to understand how.
  13. In addition to the other recommendations Evan Williams Single Barrel Old Grandad 114 both are easy to find and pair well with 89 Grateful Dead.
  14. My favorite song from this show is easily the Dancing in the Street. The jam is just so smooth and funky all at the same time. If it didn’t have the vocal flubs, it would be perfect.
  15. That is a really cool shed. My brother was at 2 of those Vegas shows. I remember him saying how hot it was. It is crazy they did afternoon shows in the summer back then. I went to days 2&3 in Vegas in 95 and got a pretty bad burn. The strip was nuts as all the heads spilled out after the show just as the lights were turning on.
  16. 2/26/77 is a great show. Fantastic versions of everything played. I will put that on later this week as I am going through my favorite Dave’s Picks (it is #29). Right now I am in the back yard jamming 2/24/74 (DaP#13) Another all time great that is probably a top 20 show of theirs. Every song is at the highest level. It is crazy how great these 70s shows sound compared to how shitty a lot of the 80s stuff sounds. That is a big reason I have neglected their mid-80s shows more than I should.
  17. I am going with 11/17/73 at the Pauley Pavillion (Dave’s Picks 5) on the back porch this morning. It is one of those shows where every song played is one of the best versions out there. Right now is Here Comes Sunshine-my second favorite after the DiP1 version. The show also has a great Playin>UJB>Morning Dew>UJB>Playing that clocks in around 50 min. The mix is perfect. Two thumbs up! Also, I am not sure if anyone else here is subscribing, but the new Dave’s pick from 3/26&27/87 is really good. It is a matrix mix. The crowd during Touch is awesome. I think it is one of the first versions after the coma and the East Coast crowd is hyped. I wish they would do more matrix releases. As far as I know, this and 11/30/80 are the only ones and having the crowd audible really adds to the listening experience.
  18. My brother and I always sing the opening line of Bertha as “I had a hard on, running from your window”. It really adds something.
  19. I found a pretty sweet soundcheck photo from 5/19/74 on his website: https://www.rpechner.com/Clients/McIntosh/i-LCVMjbT/A and here are a bunch of other PNW photos from 74 https://www.rpechner.com/Music/Pacific-Northwest-73-74-Rhino-Records/
  20. It would look great in a frame! The back says the photo is by Richard Pechner rpechner.com and the art direction is Lisa Glines
  21. i am really enjoying the vinyl. Next up the 46 min Playin from 5/21/74. I think I will follow it up with Europe 72 vol 2
  22. I am giving Dave's Picks 3, 10/22/71 a listen today. It is one of Keith''s first shows with them and is interesting to hear him find his way in the songs. From memory, I think the Cryptical is a heater, the OMSN is surprisingly good (i usually skip this tune), and Come's a Time is great and has an extra verse. I like listening to Chicago shows since that is where I saw my first 2, both in 94. In addition to the Rosemont St. Paddy's day show, I saw them at Soldier Field on 7/24. Traffic opened and it was a great time! The Throwing Stones>NFA to close was so great to my younger self. Listening back to the show now is a bit disappointing. FWIW, I also saw the Stones play Not Fade Away later that year at the Cotton Bowl and saw Pink Floyd in between the two Dead shows. It was a pretty good year for shows.
  23. That Dark Star is pretty chill and a good listen, Next up is Skulls and Roses. I am on the second record. First, I love Phil’s tone on just about every 71 release I own. The Bertha is great, and The Other One is phenomenal. Jerry’s opening solo is one of my favorite things he ever played. Just perfect. I am excited for side 4: Wharf Rat (1st version I ever heard), NFA>GDTRFB. I picked up an old, barely used copy of this years ago. The sound quality and mix is as good as it gets. 2 thumbs up!
  24. I took a couple of days off of work and am going to listen to some vinyl. First up, the 5/4/72 Paris 40 minute Dark Star release.
  25. Real question. Why should observers from both parties not be allowed to closely observe? Going to court to only allow one side to observe the count seems like a great way to sow doubt in the integrity of the process. I did not vote for either of those clowns and am more concerned about election integrity than anything else right now. A situation where half the country doesn’t trust the result no matter what it is is terrible. The democrats try just as hard to count non-legal votes as the republicans try to get other votes thrown out. Both are despicable. I do not have any faith that any honest effort is being made to make sure every legal vote cast is counted nor that non legal votes are not being counted. Both of those situations should be unacceptable to everyone involved because they are forms of disenfranchisement. A pox on both parties and those that blindly support them.
