  1. The starter on our 20 year old Yamaha finally kicked the bucket, which meant no lake for the 4th through this weekend. Those starters are as hard to find as froghair, they never go out. In seven years, as a boat mechanic CHIEF Jr. said he only replaced one. One of his college buddies has an old 1998 Nautique with the 351 Cleveland, they replaced the coil and are out giving it a test run. Gonna have to wear a visor and some Tiddys on the boat today. CHIEF
  2. Cajun, there are three things you need to do by Monday. Wash all your cars, pour some concrete, and bale some hay. Will raise your chances of rain to about 100%. CHIEF
  3. Yep, look at the bite radius. If the young lady's calf was 100% in the sharks mouth, that is about an 18" wide mouth. CHIEF
  4. It's gonna be like a holiday for them, never better. All of the cats, rats, stray dogs, grass, and tree bark they can eat. CHIEF
  5. Sales job in Austin. Secretary gave me a lead and a phone number the first day (L.C. Dachau). I thought to myself what a terrible coincidence to have a last name that was tied to a concentration camp. I promptly walk to my new desk and called the number, which was the Austin Borden's milk distribution center. I ask to speak to L.C. Dachau. The secretary told me "she" was out to pasture at the moment, and would I like to leave a message? Apparently it was a daily occurrence, the answer was immediate, and there wasn't a hint of humor in her voice. CHIEF
  6. What a shitty way to die. CHIEF
  7. Mrs. CHIEF's prescription isn't covered by insurance. The $175/month is considerably less than we found it anywhere locally, or online. CHIEF
  8. As a homebuilder, I always install induction cooktops in all of my homes. I have a gas cooktop that runs off propane, after always having a gas cooktop in Austin, I couldn't go back to electric. As a realtor in a subdivision that tends to have all electric appliances, I tell clients that don't like to use electric cooktops to change out the electric cooktop with an induction model. You can get them from Home Depot or Lowe's, in town, for between $500-$1000. It is a lot cheaper than running a gas line, and will be much safer. CHIEF
  9. Hadn't been in this particular forum for a while. Mrs. CHIEF has been on a compounded version of Wegovy for about 6 months now. She drives to Benbrook and picks up a month's supply at a time. She was pre-diabetic, and she has been on blood pressure medicine for probably 25 years. So far, she has dropped 25 lbs., has had minimal problems, just the burps. She also takes Miralax twice a week. Her current dose is 1.7 mg, it is running her $175/month. Our doctor uses this one particular pharmacy that has made it really affordable, Perroni's compounding pharmacy. It is considerably cheaper than any of the compounding pharmacies in Granbury. Just a suggestion for anyone wanting to try it in the Ft. Worth area. CHIEF
  10. The Pulido's, in Cleburne, is closed permanently as well. It was pretty solid, but without a full renovation, I don't see how anyone could get it to pass a health inspection. Cleburne is kinda underrated on Mexican food, it has a huge Hispanic population due to inexpensive housing. It's an old railroad town and is full of stick built houses from the 1940s, 50s, and 60s with one car garages. You can pick one up for about $100k, and be within 25 minutes of Ft. Worth for work. CHIEF
  11. Yeah, this guy just moved to be the Youth Director at a church we have been to a few times. Apparently he had some nasty baggage from Lubbock. Already let go before ever even starting. 1st Peter 4:17 17 For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? It says, right there in scripture, that judgement would begin in the Church. The chickens are coming home to roost. Another one: Matthew 18:6 If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. Looks like God will have some retribution for them, and it ain't good. CHIEF
  12. Mrs. CHIEF is having to fly, to California, for work about once or twice per month. She has pretty much always flown Southwest. I told her one of these times, when they experience a severe decent it ain't gonna stop at 400-500 feet, it will be a smoking hole. American it is, until SWA figures something out. These incidents are gonna wreak havoc on their earnings. CHIEF
  13. I have a buddy from my home town of 219 people that lives in Circle C. He went to Texas State, where he met his first wife. She happened to be the daughter of the guy who had just sold his telecommunication/internet providing company for $200 million, it would become Grande Communication a few months later. That was easily the most insane wedding I have ever been to. The reception was in the basement of the Omni, or one of the other big hotels downtown. They had an open bar with high end liquor, a surf and turf dinner for about 500 people, small wedding gifts for each of the guests. Father of the groom said the bride's family had spent easily a million on the wedding. I bet the centerpieces for each of the 50 or so tables cost $150k. All that expense, and they were divorced in about five years. CHIEF
  14. Which one is that? Benbrook? CHIEF
  15. Ralph & Kacoo's, in Baton Rouge is permanently closed. CHIEF
  16. I have an aunt that just turned 70, her grandfather was a Civil War vet. He had her father when he was in his 70s. Her father was in his mid 50s when he had her, she was the baby of the family. What is really cool is that her father lived really close to us. When I was a kid, I would ride my dirt bike to their house a few times per week and help Jack (her father) check varmint traps. Jack had a moonshine still that had belonged to his BIL, and still used it. My paternal grandfather said that Jack's BIL made the best moonshine he had ever tasted, and they would run about 300 quarts per month out to Sweetwater during Prohibition. CHIEF
  17. That's kinda the way ours went. I have an aunt that made wedding and groom cakes, her gift? Wedding and Groom's cake. Her cakes are amazing, she normally gets from $1200-2000 for both. We have a family friend that is a wedding photographer, his gift was free wedding photos. Church and reception hall were free, tipped the pastor $50. A nice wedding can still be done inexpensively if you know the right people. If CHIEF Jr. ever gets married, and his bride wants to spend $100k on a wedding, or requires a $30k engagement ring, I'm gonna suggest he needs to get rid of her and find someone else. If times get tough, she is gonna jump ship and take half his shit. CHIEF
  18. One of the coolest weddings I ever went to was a friend of Mrs. CHIEF's from Westwood. They had it at a little old rundown church in Fischer (between Blanco and Wimberly). It was outside, and they had two kegs at the back of the aisles, so you filled up a beer and went and set down. Whole thing probably didn't cost a grand. I think Torn is onto something. A lot of women like to brag how much their wedding cost. Mine likes to boast about how little her wedding cost. Her grandmother told us we should just go down to the JOP on Monday morning and get married, like herself and my wife's grandfather, "just start your week out right." CHIEF
  19. Mrs. CHIEF's and my wedding cost a whole $1500, and $600 of that was her dress. I have family and friends, to this day swear it was the best wedding they ever went to. Money well spent for a 31 year marriage. CHIEF
  20. My favorite chapter. As a kid, 50 years ago, my parents were part of a Bible study. It had its own building for the study, that building's name was "Romans IIX." My folks were kinda "hippies" (Mom more than Dad) it was a lot like the "Jesus Revolution" movie. A lot of people were baptized in stock tanks. But the primary theme was love and forgiveness. I watch quite a bit of Near Death Experience videos. They are fascinating. Unforgiveness is an underlying theme that, however your relationship with God is, causes him not to accept you into his Kingdom. "How can you not forgive someone, and want my forgiveness for every vile and ruthless thing you have ever done? So much so, that I sacrificed the thing that meant the most to me, my Only Begotten Son." CHIEF
  21. Mine was Flaming Hot Cheetos. I swear I was a goner the first time I ever took a shit after eating them, the accompanying heat made me dial 9-1 and just hold my finger on the one again so I could push it before passing out. That way the paramedics could find me. CHIEF
  22. Bob George uses an analogy like that in his book "Classic Christianity." The parable is the difference between a city dog and a country dog. When you are just a Christian because everyone in your family is one, and you don't truly have a relationship with God, you are like a city dog. Always running away when the gate is open, always trying to dig out under the fence. Always doing something that is going to eventually catch up with you (running out into the street, and getting run over. Chewing an extension cord in two. Sprayed by a skunk.) Ideally your relationship with God should make you like a country dog. You have no boundaries, you could walk to LA, Chicago, or New York. Instead, you are laying on the porch, or under the pick up waiting for your master for affection, attention, and a joy ride. You can do anything you want, but choose to be close by your master. CHIEF
  23. Unbelief is but one, the other is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit: 31:And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32:Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. That is contributing the works of the Holy Spirit to Satan. Even a believer that uses the Lord's name in vain can be forgiven. Also, for those that use their OSAS as an excuse to sin: Matthew 7: 21-23 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ If you are gonna talk the talk, you need to walk the walk. We always are acting against human nature trying to live a life that we would want Jesus to approve of, and we never will be able to. That doesn't mean you don't try, and when you fail, repent, and try again. The idea is not to live your life for yourself, but to prepare your life so that Jesus may live his life through you. CHIEF
