  1. The same group that let him stand up and pump his fist after getting shot instead of rushing him off the stage and to the hospital? Yeah, they're massively incompetent.
  2. Ha. The guy did say when I asked about the ease of getting there that you choose to fly into Des Moines or Cedar Rapids and rent a car. Initially, they sent her some good email marketing about how tight knit of a community they are. I think to someone who is scared about going away, that really resonated with her. She really enjoyed the virtual tour and talk they gave. I spoke with the representative last night from Grinnell and he helped put my mind at ease a bit. He talked about how only 8% of students at Grinnell are in-state so the rest are out of state and international students. Most everyone there are in the same boat of not knowing people. Since the campus and town are small, they rely more on each other. I haven't verified this but he said Harvard did a study on friendship bias which is how do students over different socio-economic and cultural classes interact with one another. The study found Grinnell had the lowest amount of this of all the colleges they surveyed. We talked about if she was accepted, we would take a visit there in the winter. He actually encouraged that as he completely gets that Iowa is not what a lot of people think of when they're thinking their ideal college destination. I think the vibe of it really felt good to her. We had a discussion on the car ride home about each college and what going to that city might mean. For Colorado College, you have a tremendous playground that I would be mad if she didn't take advantage of. For Grinnell, your college is your world there so you have to be sure that you're good with not having much else to do outside of campus. We had a good time at the small college fair. It was poorly attended which was sad for the reps who flew in for it but it allowed us to meet with the ones she was interested with and not compete for time like the other fair we went to. I don't know why they thought Duncanville was a good location as you cut off a lot of Northern Dallas which is more their target audience. I think maybe 20 people were there. Each one had a 5 minute presentation about their college which was helpful. We're already onboard with Colorado College who was there and I wanted to hear more about Grinnell. We also talked to Macalister College in St Paul, Minnesota which interested her. We've been to the Twin Cities before as she had a friend that lived there but she previously hadn't given that area much thought. There were some others there like Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY that were interesting to hear from but I'm not sure she's that interested in heading east if it's not NYC she's attending school in. They're about 30 minutes north near Yonkers. Connecticut College was there. Very pretty campus right near the Long Island Sound. Some others we ruled out that were there were Claremont McKenna in California, Haverford outside of Philly, and Kenyon which is in Ohio. She has at least 3 she would like to apply for now and we had a nice talk about applying with Colorado College. Still nothing from our college guy. Just so weird.
  3. Did they kill plastic straws? I feel like that was a self-own.
  4. Posts clip from movie where the villains are a gaggle of bro-Republicans and an asshole administrator.
  5. That might be difficult given no Big 10 teams reside in the Mountain Time Zone. Maybe they'll try to roll out a 9am PST game for Big Noon but I highly doubt it. I guess we'll find out on 10/11 if Oregon and Indiana are both undefeated or they want Michigan at USC for that time. Doubtful as well as Ohio State-Illinois is right there for Big Noon. I did chuckle that the Michigan State fans get to watch their team play USC at 10PM EST in a few weeks. Welcome to Big 10 After Dark, MSU.
  6. So an update on our situation. We were scheduled to meet with our college guy on August 27th in the evening. Early afternoon that day he texts me that he needs to reschedule as his wife had a work meeting pop up and he has to run all the kids to their evening activities. I say that this is no problem and we can reschedule for next week at any point. Nothing after that. My multiple emails have gone unanswered. My texts have also not been answered. I'm hoping nothing bad happened to him or his family but it's just disappointing to be at the point where we need to get things finalized and he's pretty much ghosted us. I told my daughter that she should approach her UT On Ramps teacher who wrote her the most glowing recommendation I've ever seen to see if he would be able to help assist her with cleaning up, better focusing, and flowering up the essay. She said her school has some resources that also can help her. I'm not mad at our college guy, just really disappointed because we weren't that far away from being done and she worked really well with him. My brother was also hoping to use him for my nephew and he's gotten nothing back either. Tonight, we're going to Duncanville to talk with some small private colleges like Grinnell that she's interested in. Colorado College will be there so I'm going to have her go up and see if they can give her some hints on what can help boost her application. Grinnell is one I'll talk to because that's one I have some reservations on her going to given how isolated and small both it and the city are. It was one she focused on really early and did a virtual tour with. She'll apply with them but I told her if she's accepted we're going there in the dead of Winter so she can see what life in Iowa is like.
  7. I can't wait.
  8. It feels like cancel culture run amok. It is very intoxicating to be able to shame or blacklist someone online. Social media has only made it easier and there's a bit of getting out pitchforks in a very public way. I guess it's easier to live in your bubble where only your worldview is fed to you. We see it on both sides with people's media feedback loops. People get shouted down for different or "offensive" speech. It's very black and white thinking. There is no longer any grey or nuance. You have to be fully committed one way and it better be "the right way". I see it with my own teens and try to challenge them to look at things from different perspectives. I relay to them my own history of thinking one way for a long time and then changing later in life. If I were held to the standard they hold people to based on my past beliefs, I would be cancelled by them. It feels like this generation doesn't allow people to make mistakes, think less than ideal things, and be able to recover from those past misdeeds. If you do something wrong at any point of your life, that will be forever held against you. It's very strange behavior that might come back to bite them in the ass since they live so online constantly. I think my oldest would be mortified if her posts as a preteen and early teenager were served back to her when she's in her 20s. It feels like a generation that doesn't want their worldview challenged. Then again, I could be an old man now who is doing the same thing my father did about my generation, bitching about how they just don't get it.
  9. Gundy is in Florida recruiting and killing himself?
  10. Not sure on the helmet since there's not a clear shot of it but it should be the same as that mini helmet.
  11. @SbbruinI thought you might like to hear this. Your club was featured on Marketplace on NPR. Great show if you've never heard it. It's a nightly appointment for me. https://www.marketplace.org/story/2025/09/08/country-club-partially-reopens-after-altadena-fires

  13. Yeah but all those transgender athletes will crop up again when they need something to be scared of.
  14. Good. Fuck em. They made their choice. Let them lose their souls.
  15. He sounds like a Star Wars character. Be careful when you enter the system. You might run into Biff Poggi.
  16. Ha. Yeah, nail on the head with that name choice.
  17. Racists like this always have this in their profiles. His tweets are now protected. Why hide from this? You obviously posted it thinking you would get massive agreement. Frankly, it's great that a racist like this guy moved out to Colleyville to escape non-whites and now he'll have to move again.
  18. 2001 was the 2nd highest grossing movie of 1968, the year it was released. That's pretty wide appeal. Alien and Star Wars aren't greenlit without 2001.
  19. I'd put Arch more in the early Colt McCoy stage right now. A guy from a smaller school who is learning while he goes. Colt didn't have the pedigree but you saw flashes. Arch has these high expectations because of his name which gave him the high star rating. Maybe he's just average. Average could be enough. Man, it's so early. Wisner was out. WRs are still getting up to speed. Wingo is too much in his own head. Livingston and Endries look great. We get consistency out of the WRs, this thing is going to start cooking. We might've been foolish to expect to be great again in the passing game after losing Golden, Bond, and Helm. Baxter looks good at RB and I'm interested in what Clark can bring. We need a home run hitter at RB and no one has stepped up yet. But again, it's early. One of my many flaws is my brain works faster than my fingers when I type.
  20. Do I need a new green shirt from Liverpool? No. Will I be getting one? Probably.
  21. Pulp Fiction: Hollywood's Indie New Wave of the 1990s Die Hard: action thriller set in a specific location (future action movies were "Die Hard on a _____")
